2. INTRODUCTION
What is BFR?
 Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) is a technique that involves the use of a cuff-tourniquet system
placed around the part of the arm or leg away from the body to maintain arterial flow while
restricting venous return.
 Combining blood restriction and traditional resistance training with BFR can help athletes
maximize athletic performance.
 With BFR, you can get as much efficiency from low-load muscle-strength exercises as high-load
exercises. Thus, while the recovery rate increases, the duration of treatment can be reduced.

4. INTRODUCTION
BFR for after surgery;
 Injured patients are often unable to do heavily loaded exercises, and the joint must create
strength and hypertrophy to accelerate recovery. BFR facilitates and accelerates hypertrophy of
the injured patient by triggering the secretion of growth hormone. In this way, it helps to treat
injuries such as lateral epicondylitis, patellar tendonitis and muscle strain.
 BFR minimizes the loss of strength and muscle mass, so patients who cannot carry heavy loads
after surgery can maintain their muscle strength without any exercise.
 As a result, the treatment process can be shortened while the treatment is effective in a short
time.

BFR on an elderly patient;
 BFR is not only aimed at athletes, it can also be beneficial for elderly patients who need muscle
strength to continue their lives comfortably but cannot do heavy-loaded muscle exercises.

 During the application, the tourniquet is fixed above the joint with the help of Delphi patented
Easi-fit. The pressure that can be optimized by the patient is adjusted on the device and exercises
are performed to ensure that the muscle contracts while the tourniquet is on the targeted
muscle.

 There are different BFR devices produced by different companies. One of the most common
devices is the PTS Personalized Tourniquet System for Blood Flow Restriction produced by Delfi

 This device provides safe and controlled regulation of tourniquet pressure. It is a device designed
for use in patients for whom a doctor or a health clinician has recommended blood-restricting
exercise.
