1. Monumental mixes, venue shaking bass; the style and ease of BATE presents him as a cool and clear character
set on his goals of achieving his maximum potential through the means of music. Modestly speaking about his
own past times it gives off the image of experience, a well experienced Musician that has overcome obstacles
by using music as a tool. We asked BATE how he feels about music being more of a tool than a form of
entertainment and he answered with a mind bending insight as to how he perceives music, BATE: “My idea of
music is in a physical form, a device that can be used to motivate and drive an audience to the point of full
satisfaction is how music should be used. Not to promote, glorify or create a scene; but just for pure
enjoyment. Just like Wesley Snipes: i do not listen to music, i hear. The sounds become a part of me rushing
through my body so therefore it is evident music is a tool, once played it produces a result weather it is for
better or for worse you can manipulate it to however you feel.”
Radical new styles and ground breaking EPs cause second thoughts for other artists as they re-think there work
whilst BATE consistently produces pounding beats that never fail to impress. Underground music is where he
originated from using his bedroom as an experimental lab to concoct new sounds from his DIY set up. This is a
massive factor when listening to his music as you can feel the grittiness and reality of emotional expression
when listening to his older work such as ‘A Fresh Start’ EP. Dirty wobbling bass projects the moods that he felt
at that time along with flamboyant bursting sounds that convey his good side. The mixture of the two creates a
whirling sensation of sounds that take you on a journey through BATE’s mind.
When considering the style of music that he produces it is hard to put a label on what he actually is, light drum
beats can transform to the dirtiest of Synth’s in a matter of seconds providing the crowd with a quick
turnaround of atmosphere. . When asking BATE what genre would you label yourself under He surprisingly
replied with some form of offence, BATE: “Label? Labels do not exist in my mind and never have done. Every
good artist has their own style and persona which gives them something unique. Once this personal
achievement has been made it shines the confidence to make music which totally involves your personality
therefore we each pose our own genres as it comes from our minds. The music speaks for itself so label it what
you want.”
With many musical talents BATE is able to uncover what many have failed to have done before, he takes
advantage of his wide knowledge when creating a track or mix involving almost every instrument he can get
his hands on. The musical whizz that he has evolved into over a number of years through self teaching has
acquired him a unique eye for rhythmic patterns that stimulate your every senses. Being able to play the:
Guitar, Drums and Piano along with the techniques of mastering a mixer and turn tables all combines for a
result of pure bliss. The question is however how he chooses what instruments to use and when as the
slightest off sound can completely dismantle a track. BATE: “During production i love being able to consider
every aspect of all the instruments i am lucky enough to be able to play, i start off by firstly creating a beat on
my drums. It can reflect how i feel on that day or have felt over a situation that i like the track to relate to.
Faced paced beats that build up to a drop are my preference as it gives the crowd something to endure and
unleash when it kicks in!”
Both underground and in the media’s gaze has helped him to adapt to the stickiest of situations. Learning
from his mistakes of the past and becoming a new person was a big part of his life as he was heavily evolved in
drug use. When asking him about it he was more than happy to give us an insight into how he coped with drug
use and his feelings about it, BATE: “in my early teens i was messing about doing the average thing that any
teenager would do in the 90s, weed was around allot and even more so in my life. However with my genuine
interest in drugs it became more and more and turned into a snowball situation...the day i tried LSD was the
day i died and came back to life. Not in a literal sense but within my mindset. I was able to see music for what
it really was and interpret it with colours and movements. It quickly became my whole life as i wanted to stay
in my own dream world. However when my good friend died of an overdose i knew it was time to put an end
to it and use what i had seen for good. My trips and selfish actions ripple into my music as a form of easing the
pain of what i had become. My music touches people on all levels now, not just for a tripped out kid to fall in
and out of sanity. If anything in some of my tracks i attempt to scare the living shit out of these people in hope
that what they experience will make them never want to go back to it again.”
