2. In the periods from 1985 to 1995, national
surveys showed that the combined
number of Australian children who were
overweight or obese have more than
doubled.
In 2004 a survey was conducted in NSW,
and much like the national survey this
survey had risen from the 1995 survey
that showed 1 in 10 children to the 2004
survey showing that 1 in 4 children had
doubled in weight.
3. According to the NSW curriculum
education website, “PDHPE is an
important key learning area within the
primary curriculum as it promotes
physical activity to encourage physical,
social and emotional growth of all
students, supports the acquisition of
essential movement skills and nurtures
positive attitudes towards lifelong
healthy and active lifestyles.”
4. PDHPE teaches your children about many topics such as:
1. Health and safety – Teaches your child how to stay safe, and
healthy in many different environments/situations.
2. Healthy Eating – Teaches your child about the importance of
healthy eating and the advantages and disadvantages to doing
so. Also, implementation of healthy eating through strong,
great advice by their teachers.
3. Exercise – Teaches your child about the importance of regular
exercise and how different types of exercise work different
types of muscles, body parts. Also children learn about the
human system and how we are made, conceived, what we are
made up of (bones, muscles, skin, blood, organs Etc.) and how
we operate. Children also learn about changing bodies as they
grow older, and different feelings (hormones)
4. Stranger Danger – Teaches the child not to trust strangers and
how to defend themselves in certain situations.
5. Sports – Teaches them different types of sports which gives
them exercise and knowledge of sports, also teaches the child
certain skills such as communication, decision making,
interactive, problem solving and moving.
5. It is important that children begin to learn about Health
and safety issues as well as learning the importance of
physical activity from a young age as their mind is very
impressionable, much more so when they are younger,
therefore the earlier children learn that fitness is good
for them, the better the outcome the children will have
in their future.
Children are the future, our future, therefore it would
be best to help them to grow into the best possible
form that they can.
PDHPE has be designed to do just this, to help educate
children about the do’s and don'ts of issues such as
eating healthy, exercising regularly, changing bodies as
we grow, safety first, stranger danger and so on.
PDHPE is a tool used to aid your child into a better
future.
