First Name: Elihu
Last Name: El

Subject: Appointment
Dear Mr. President:
I hope that all is well with you and yours. I am applying for consideration for an appointment. First,
as a member of your administration I would get a good feel of ways I could satisfy our nation’s current
and future issues. Mainstream media does not provide an adequate coverage of threats that harms
the well-being of people in America. My central focus is on social injustice, mitigating family
dysfunction, and promoting Social Transformation. My experiences and values align with this focus,
and I am interested in applying my leadership, computational, and analytical skills to help your goals.
My background is Business Intelligence, software engineering, and strategy. I could provide IT
infrastructure, strategic planning, a unique point-of-view on community development, along with data
gathering and analysis. After discussing the position with you, I am eager to express my interest in
applying for this opening. My advocacy and social service background in policy, coupled with military
service and the education have strengthened my technical, communication, and analytical skill sets,
will provide me with a strong foundation to exceed the responsibilities of the appointed role. Even as
my career evolves, I want to continue with a spirit of public service. Prior to starting my current role, I
served for many years as a defense contractor. During this time, I learned that even in a technical
organization, overcoming challenges requires not only engineering skills, but a capacity for leadership
and an understanding of policy and management, from internal budgets to shifting national defense
priorities.
To be an effective leader, I realize that I need an array of skills rooted in several disciplines, including
policy, organizational management, and engineering. An appointment allows me to exercise and
enhance these skills. Being fascinated by the intersection of technology, business, and policy, I want
to advance performance and innovation in the public sector. I have seen the great work that public
institutions can do and met some of the smartest, and most capable people. However, I see how we
need to adapt and improve. I want to be a leader that drives positive change in public and helps us to
meet our full potential. I am particularly inspired by this opportunity that draws from expertise in
policy and intelligence to find creative solutions to defense challenges. I am DAWIA level 3 certified
and plan to dedicate my career to changing the landscape of technology, national security, and public
policy. Comprehensive training and cross-sector relationships from an appointment will not only
strengthen my understanding of the challenges at play, but will help me leverage my professional
experiences to enact effective and sustainable change.
An appointment enables me to further explore how public policy influences the social wellbeing and
national security of our nation and gather momentum for the development of bold policy solutions.

The appointment will give me a broad foundation in public policy that is concerned with ensuring a
basic level of opportunity for all in our society and aware of the national security risks that threaten to
disrupt our progress. From my first position after college as a Software Engineer supporting national
defense through my commitment to public service, an appointment would perfectly merge my skills,
background, and passions. Capitalizing on my past accomplishments, I enthusiastically write to
express interest in serving as a member of your administration. Bringing unique qualities with me as
a member of your administration, I will have great success in contributing to the mission of your
administration by aiding in the generation of innovative policy solutions to address our challenges
ranging from mass incarceration to public assistance and from national security to immigration. I
would be proud to help foster systemic progressive change in our nation by serving as a member of
your administration. My professional experience combined with my ability to thrive in a fast-paced
dynamic environment, strong work ethic, and energy will add value to your administration. An
appointment will give me the opportunity to work with and learn from similarly passionate individuals
from different disciplines to better understand challenges from new perspectives and forge new paths
to expanded. The appointment would give me a nurturing and inspiring community of change-
makers, through which we challenge each other to think boldly and hold each other accountable over
time to our original values and missions.
Our country has evolved to become a culture of equality and unbiases. Descendants of slaves,
women, members of the LGBTQ community, veterans, citizens with disabilities, and countless others
have fought and even died so that we all would have opportunities to serve our fellow man. I was
inspired to serve from an early age. My family instilled in me a strong sense of duty and responsibility
to give back. I am a former soldier and law enforcement officer. Public servants and military
members were a significant part of my community growing up in North Little Rock, Arkansas and that
influence further convinced me of the importance of serving my country. I plan to spend my career
making that vision of a prosperous “Tech Intel” a reality - first by building organizations that will
provide good-paying jobs and recruit diverse employee talent, then creating special projects aimed at
strengthening innovation by improving local education and investing in the technologies that will drive
the region’s next era of generation of leaders. As I chart my course path, I see an appointment as the
perfect capstone for me to take inventory of the skills I learned throughout my career and find ways I
can use them in furthering public policy going forward. The first and second chapters of my life can
be defined as a search for opportunities to make an impact.
I spend every day communicating with, operating next to, and working to inspire people from all walks
of life. I ran for public office in 2010. Unfortunately, I did not win. However, the experience of living
and advocating side-by-side with the typical nineteen-year-old adult and sixty-year-old community
leader taught me important lessons about leadership and about life. The young adult and the wise
community leader may not have agreed on much, but each believed in a world governed by justice
and fairness, trusted an individual’s capacity to change their own situation and that of others, through
hard work and creative thinking, and believed that personal gain was subordinate to the needs of
one’s family, friends and community. My zeal for serving marginalized and underrepresented groups
has been demonstrated by my 20+ years of progressive service and working with diverse
environments. Through education, my cultural awareness and fervor to influence positive change is
heightened.
3. 3 of 4
Over the past 10 years, I have continued to sharpen my perception of quality-of-life as well as
enhance my quantitative and communication skills by producing high-quality work. I am dedicated to
reducing poverty and promoting socially sustainable innovation, cultural understanding, and building
productive relationships. I have a degree in Computer Science, but rather than simply focusing on
implementing IT solutions, I focus on solutions that answer the questions of "why" relationships are
out of balance, "why" system inequalities exist, "why" are there obstacles standing in the way of
transformative change, and "what" appropriate remedies are required to address these issues. As a
member of your administration, I bring knowledge of local cultural belief systems, values and customs
that define what pragmatic solutions are most appropriate.
I hope to join your administration, to mobilize human and financial resources to establish creative and
sustainable solutions. I also seek to tell and share stories of how your administration will provide
sustainable innovations that are catalyzing social change. As an appointee, I would do the following:
• Strive to groom and encourage our next generation of leaders to adequately address
economic, social, and environmental causes of all forms of unrest;
• To provide consultation, IT, business development, and technical support to social enterprises;
• To create and lead new types of learning and living experiences that expose folks to the
amazing sustainable innovations that are creating social change, and as a result contribute to
greater social intelligence;
• To document, tell, and share the stories of sustainable innovations that are catalyzing social
change;
• To foster cultural understanding developing a strong network of partners dedicated to working
together to reduce moral and social dysfunction and advance goodwill among various classes
in America;
• To further envision and implement business models, revenue generating activities, and create
new ways of living and learning, while respecting important cultural traditions and norms.
With my appointment, the White House along with working in concert with other appointees, will
create meaningful impact and renew the nation’s belief in the capacity of public service to make
positive differences. I am committed to leveraging lessons learned and everything I will learn during
an appointment, to make an impact for those most in need. I am an engineer at heart, and my
creative passion lies in making technology and public services more intuitive, more reliable, and less
expensive. My experiences are broad. The thread that unites all my work is the desire to develop
products and services that maximize resources. I know who I am: a public servant, father, dreamer,
student, leader, and friend. If I stay true to my principles and learn from the breadth of human
experience, I can lead public policy and contribute to a future that is just and inclusive. My academic
and professional experiences have helped me develop skills at the intersection of engineering, public
policy, and defense that can be integral to solving problems of the White House. Studying computer
science and engineering has enabled me to understand the technical challenges faced by the
defense industry. With your appointment, I aspire to move us one step closer to solving global
defense hostilities. An appointment’s multi-pronged approach to leadership development is a rare
and tremendous opportunity to become an even stronger leader.
