2. My masthead challenges the usual conventions of a real music magazine as I have decided to put it down the side rather than at the top. This adds a different perspective and makes the magazine stand out as different whilst still being able to look like a magazine.
3. The locations that I decided to use are similar in ways to magazines and music magazines, the majority of the images I used added a indie affect as I tried to use indie clothing and clothing that is in style so to keep up to date with the fashions, the photos of Sophie that I used were all taken in a studio to give a professional look and this is different to a music magazine, but is in keeping with magazines as a whole. The photos of Chelsea and Shila are more laid back and give a rough look which goes with the rock style that I am also trying to convey and that I have discovered in other magazines.
4. I have used all girls in my images and this could be taken as attracting only the female gender however it can also be used to attract males if the models used are good looking. I never intended on using an all female cast, and the outcome was accidental, despite of this it has created an unnecessary and unwanted effect, but could be in my favour.
5. 2. How does your music magazine represent particular social groups?
6. 1419225959485My music magazine (Fushion Chamber) represents a younger audience particularly a social group of indie/ rock loving teenagers. It represents this by using a almost posh looking front cover with a fashion styled posed picture with the mode of address being ‘slang,’ and the music genre being a mix of folk, indie and rock bands/artists. 247650740410The pictures below show the posed fashion styled picture which is on the contents with the advertising banner that is also on the contents being black and advertising rock bands it gives a contrast but also shows the two different mixes of audience that are being advertised in this magazine.
7. What kind of media institution might distribute your music magazine and why?I think that out of the 5 institutions (IPC/EMAP/BAUER/MONKEY/FUTURE PLC) that I could choose to distribute my magazine, my magazine would fit in to 2 of their portfolios. I think that my magazine would fit into BAUER and FUTURE PLC, I think this because I was looking through the magazines they have done and Fushion Chamber has two elements that are separated into each institutions one is that BAUER is the producer of Bella magazine and this magazine is all about gossip, which is one of the key elements in my magazine that separates it from just being a completely rock music magazine. The other element fits into FUTURE PLC’s magazine Guitar World as that has a rock look to it, but without being too over the top with constant music like Kerrang! When I have added in the rock pieces to the magazine I have kept with a similar theme to it like FUTURE PLC’s magazine. Guitar World also has a similar layout apart from the mast head to my magazine.

9. Who would be the audience for your music magazine?I think that the core buyer of my magazine will be teenage girls. Although I did not plan mainly girls to be the main target audience it ended up that way with only girls on my magazine that I have shown (although in the actual magazine there would be men) and a fashion oriented front cover (image style). Which is much more likely to attract females rather than males and the music genre and fashion that I am advertising is more focused toward s teenagers. As before in my analysis of my questionnaire I found that teenagers all had similar tastes towards music magazines and featured articles and free CD’s and so in my flat plan you can see that I have arranged to add posters in the magazine and on the front cover I have advertised free downloads, as on the analysis of my questionnaires I found that most of teenagers are on the internet ‘all the time,’ so using downloads means that I am staying up to date with the internet as well as in print. This is why my psychographic profiling of the target audience is an Aspirer: A materialistic seeker of status, this materialism ties in with the freebies being the highlight of their interest in the magazine.
10. How did you attract/address your audience? Use of language/mode of address- I used a slang type style, so I shortened words (text language), used words that maybe are only colloquial in teenage Britain/America. o Use of font- The font I have used is just simplistic text trying to stay clear of any curly or slightly unreadable writing, but also not using the same font over and over, because that would be boring. o Images- the images I used as I have mentioned before have a indie/fashion style to them so are attracting more of the girls of fashion interested people, whilst also keeping the indie edge. o Masthead- my mast head is unusual as it is too the side rather than at the top or bottom, so this stands out from the rest of the magazines that are the same genre as mine.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? During this project I have used the internet for research into other magazines and how their layout, PowerPoint to plan and reflect on my magazine and the processes that I went through, Digital camera to take the pictures for my magazines images, Photoshop to edit pictures backgrounds and colouring, Publisher for the preliminary task of the college magazine, InDesign to create my front cover, contents page and double page spread, Blogger to upload my work, slideshare to covert some of the files in order to upload onto Blogger and Paint so that I could crop and colour certain images and fonts. I learnt quite a lot from all the different programmes I learnt how to crop and recolor images, learnt how to used Word and InDesign so that I can just import all of the text of an essay onto the page in the layout I want. I learnt that on Photoshop I could use the magic wand tool in order to delete the background and just keep the main image is as well as using the magic wand I also had to use it manually. I didn’t realise that slideshare existed and that it could convert presentations so that it was easier to look at when uploading it onto a website. And finally learnt how to used InDesign as I had never used it before and learnt how to arrange and ‘Place,’ images as well as placing text from Word.
7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? I found that after my preliminary task the research into audience (Find your tribe) and audience feedback (Questionnaires) has made me gain a bigger respect for always asking the target audience what they think as the magazine can look better when you know what others think and this can always improve not only the look but the impact of the magazine as a whole, as on your own you cannot get a full perspective of what others want. Overall I have found with the software that I now understand how it works as in the question above I explained that I have never used InDesign before or the newer edition of Photoshop and now understand how the create and edit things on theses software programmes. However I did have a basic understanding of Photoshop to begin with. When doing my photos I had a lot to think about, as before I would have never thought as deeply into the location and costume I had to make sure that these pictures were exactly how I wanted them to be and that the message conveyed was the right one I was expecting although as I have said many times before that I had an unexpected effect when I realised I had only photographed girls. I think that the research into the other magazine was a good thing as I had a better understanding of conventions and layout, that helped me make my magazine look more likely like a professional magazine. I realise that adding in the little details like issue number, date and price can make all the difference in how professional it would look and also the angle of the pictures on the magazine can give a more relaxed effect. The one thing that I would do if I did this again would be to make the main image overlap the mast head as in my research most of the magazine did this as a message of importance. My critical evaluation skills have definitely improved since I started this project; I have learnt to look for the smaller details of something rather than just the obvious and learnt that taking all of the advise rather than just the advice you want to take can make a huge improvement to your magazine as others know what they want to see rather than what yourself would think is a good idea.
