Now you have a challenge and had some ideas of how the problem solving methodology and discipline works. The question is … how do we get there.
POINT AT POSTER: remember how we talked about where we want to be and how the next step is where are we now? So, that’s what we’re going to do next.
To understand where we are today – we need to understand what the current condition is telling us. What patterns and behaviours do we see. It’s not just about the data but also the facts. What’s the data and facts we need to know – just like we used in Domino’s training. So “what is that information and how do get it?”.
Analyzing the current condition is done to obtain the facts & data you need in order to then describe an appropriate next target condition. What you're doing is trying to find the current pattern of operation, so you can establish a desired pattern of operation (a target condition).
You won't know what to work on until you have established a target condition. Once you have a target condition and strive to move toward it with PDCA cycles you'll discover what you need to work on.
Grasping the initial current condition is a step toward establishing a first target condition. Note that when you are ready to establish a second target condition for the same process you will have learned a lot about the process through your PDCA cycles. The process analysis for the second target condition may therefore procede more quickly, since you are not starting over.
There are usually 5 key steps to analyzing your current process. Here you see the typical questions and process to follow where you build your current state. But, I know you’re thinking – we’re not normal. So how does this work for me. Well, it can and you may need to skip or change your data and facts to build your current state. Keep in mind what your challenge is and let it guide your way. Let’s look at these steps in some detail and as we do, we’ll spend time building your current condition for you IK boards.
