Do you think that the lifestyle of the inhabitants of your town or city reflects behavior that is in line with the concept of sustainable development? In your opinion, what should be improved?

1. Is my city in line with the concept of sustainable development?
I do not compare Milan with other metropolitan capitals due to its objective boundaries:
It is build over a swampland
It’s long history causes many urban modernisation problems
Restricted space available
Innovation chained down by bureaucracy
For my evaluation, I re-elaborated the Sustainable Development Goals contained in the Official Agenda for
Sustainable Development adopted by United Nations General Assembly on 25 September 2015.
• Even if we cannot compare Milan with other capital metropolitan cities, I think that the city and its
inhabitants are already on the right path for a sustainable development
• EXPO has reinvigorate our city, renovating and improving many aspects
• However, there is still much to improve and the key point regard the education of respecting everything that
surround us
• Many improvement must be made by government

• Milan is the financial capital of Italy  generates 9% of Italy’s GDP
• Highest average monthly salary in Italy  3,365 €
• Many volunteers
 support charity organization
 assist homeless on the streets  clothes, hot dishes and blankets
 Provide ambulance service
• Be less selfish
 Increase hand-out  especially to elderly
 Help needy people in your neighbourhood
 Educate children to the value of solidarity

• Many caritas centres run by volunteers
 homeless and poor people have a dish guaranteed
• Most advanced recycling system in Italy
• Many neighbourhood vegetable garden run by neighbours
• EXPO 2015 seems has awakened awareness
• Rethink how we consume our food
• Educate children to the value of food since childhood
• Restaurant and supermarket give offal to charity organization
• Sellers shouldn’t cheat about organic food
 discourage sustainable agriculture supporters

• Many parks in the centre and in the suburb
 People do sporting activities
 Sunday activities for elderly and children
 Meeting point
• Close to Alps and Dolomites
• Functional bike-sharing system, including electric bikes for elderly
• Don’t abuse of medicines, unless strictly necessary
• Further exploit bike paths and bike-sharing system
• Reduce pollution

• Obligatory schooling until 16 years old
