Key Message: Huge Market Potential for Hosting Service Providers Market Opportunity: Market projections show significant adoption of Hosted UC Services (inc. voice) over the next five years Wainhouse Research (June 2009) predicts that Hosted UC Services will grow from $1 billion in 2011 to >$5 billion in 2014 Radicati Groups (May 2009) predicts $5 billion by 2013 (but already estimates the market at $2.9 billion) Frost and Sullivan predict the UC Market in the US alone will grow at over 100% CAGR through 2015
The enterprise communications market has been transforming since the late 1980s from a TDM based distributed model to an IP based centralized model. No clear killer app. materialized for VoIP although some financial benefits could be achieved by means of network convergence, toll bypass etc. the focus over recent years has shifted to UC with Increased worker efficiency and productivity often touted as the main benefits. Further, CEBP (which is actually a re-vamp of CTI which was available in the TDM era) is often touted as the end game, which could provide more efficient and effective business processes. The centralized model can be further divided into three main segments: Self hosted – where the customer hosts the equipment in their own data center Hosted PBX – where a hosted provider hosts a dedicated system in their data center CaaS (or UCaaS) – where the hosted provider hosts the system which is utilized to serve multiple customers. Recently Cloud computing has come to the fore, which provides an elastic data center resource which can be utilized to more cost effectively support the changing needs of the enterprise. Whether this model provides much more than just an out sourced data center remains to be seen.

This slide depicts the standard Service Provider single data center architecture. At the top is the data center, operated by the Service Provider, that houses the central components - OpenScape Voice, the media server(s), DLS, OpenScape UC App, OpenScape Xpressions, OpenScape Video, and OpenScape Contact Center. A HiPath MobileConnect is also shown. PSTN termination can be via PSTN gateways located in the data center, or via a SIP trunk to a carrier, which goes via the SBC. In the center is the WAN connectivity to the remote customer locations, remote users via the Internet, and a connection to Siemens NOC for optional managed services. Managed services offer an easy entry point for the Service Provider so that they can turn up service before their technical staff is fully trained and ready to support the system. The customer sites show one location with an existing PBX with a gateway to connect it via SIP to OpenScape Voice, another SOHO location with no survivability or local PSTN termination, and a third site that has an on-site SIP proxy and gateway for local survivability and PSTN termination and a local WLAN access point to provide for VoWiFi.

Slide Objective: To highlight the new functionalities and benefits of OpenScape UC. Siemens’ OpenScape UC Application is now more open and can be deployed on any existing Telephony/IT infrastructure, without complex, expensive proprietary technology stacks. It now supports IM integration with any XMPP IM platform including Jabber. It also supports Federated IM which enables users to IM other users on other IM platforms. (requires Jabber XCP Server, or other EIM solution that supports federated IM). It’s available in modular, role-based packaging with seamless upgrade paths for users of all levels from simple voice to advanced call routing and collaboration … Personal -> Enterprise: Essential, Professional, and Team > Developer's editions. It comes with a low complexity, low cost, low risk entry point “server-less” client solution option offered as an introduction and concept evaluation. One of OpenScape UC’s fundamental capabilities is rich presence. Presence is the ability to view a contact or team member’s availability and to use a range of media to communicate with them immediately. Using presence, OpenScape users can manage their own availability status by setting up permissions and rules in their profile. Users decide for whom they are available, at what times, under which circumstances, and over which media. OpenScape UC features a Software Developer’s Kit (SDK) which allows OpenScape to be directly integrated into a wide range of business applications, new or already deployed within the enterprise. This integration greatly accelerates existing business processes, bringing real-time, presence-enabled collaboration into a workflow environment.
Objective: Describe the various client options with OpenScape UC and how this benefits the enterprise, workgroups and individual workers. Here you see the different client options available for accessing OpenScape UC. This is where we talk about the reality of integrating UC into an existing environment. Hopefully you can see the benefits of Unified Communications, but how do you implement them within an existing IT environment? OpenScape’s Software Developer’s Kit or Tool Suite enables Business Process Integration (BPI) (also called Communications Enabled Business Processes (CEBP)). The SDK enables integration into enterprise groupware and business applications already deployed within the enterprise, protecting existing investments and minimizing disruption to existing processes. The SDK is designed to be an easy to learn and easy to use open application environment based on existing programming- and open industry standards . Its extensible, modular architecture helps developers create custom enhancements to the OpenScape solution, or create entirely new applications. The SDK is based on the following technology: Microsoft .NET Web Services SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) XML (Extensible Markup Language) HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) WSDL (Web Service Definition Language) SALT (Speech Application Language Tags) VoiceXML (Voice Extensible Markup Language) CSTA III model and programming (Computer Supported Telecommunications Applications) Compatible with Visual Basic .NET, C#, and Java programming languages This Means: Tightly embedding communication tools into critical business processes. One way in which Siemens achieve this, is to work with open standards and common programming approaches to ensure ease of integration between Siemens and third party applications. In addition to giving customers access to integration tools, Siemens also works with major application providers to provide pre-integrated Unified Communications capabilities. The Value to Your Organization is: The value of aligning communications technology to core business processes is enormous. Your critical business processes are what make your business. They are the engines that create value for your customers and the things you do that make your customers choose you over the competition. Our value is to take these processes and integrate communications technology to make them even better – faster, more efficient, more effective, and ultimately, more sustainable. Proof points: Our dedication to BPI moves beyond open interfaces and development kits. Our business also brings to market a range of pre-integrated vertical specific and horizontal solutions that are specifically created to meet the unique demands of dedicated industry sectors. OpenScape is a native SIP based application built on the Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) as its framework, which allows it to easily connect and integrate with just about any other part of your existing communications infrastructure. This makes OpenScape the most open, complete, and flexible integration-ready UC application on the market today. OpenScape integration into Microsoft Sharepoint, IBM Lotus Sametime, SAP, Salesforce.com, Siebel’s Pharmaceutical product and Siemens Teamcenter. SOA-based OpenScape architecture “ By adding OpenScape to their Salesforce implementations, financial services customers can seamlessly manage their communications as easily as they manage their sales contacts.” Tien Tzuo, Chief Strategy Officer, salesforce.com
Objective: illustrate an example of CEBP (communications embedded business process) Note: step through builds indicating how each UC capability is embedded into the line of business application for this customer healthcare application example. The key point is that real-time UC communications are embedded into the context of the business workflow to improve process performance by overcoming obstacles that depend on communications and reducing delays / cycle time. Also provides a unified interface to the user which can improve productivity and convenience.
