Agree on a Victory Definition To get the right results, invite the right people
1. What are we trying to accomplish ?
2. How should we go about it ?
3. How will we know if we have succeeded ?
1. Right people are not always the folks with big titles and
corner offices.
2. Issue a challenge contest to mid-management and tell them
if they want to be part of it, They need to tell us why and tell
us what they will do with what they learn. We could reserve
a 3 hour time slot for this group ( 5-8 people).

To make it work, keep it real !
1. Especially ideas from outside your company
and industry.
2. Throw atleast 1 major challenge at the
leaders e.g. presenting business plans
visually !
3. Maintain a business offsite journal, that they
present at the offsite culmination.
1. Go easy on team building and focus on the business.
2. Team building for its own sake is a waste of time.
3. Everything that they do should relate to the task at hand.
E.g. Business Head could use ‘live customers’ to present
how their business plans are linked with the needs of their
target customer set.

You don’t always have to beat the
clock
What gets measured gets attention
1. We let the ideas lead the schedule, not the
other way around.
1. We need to produce tangible business results from the offsite.
2. Better still, if we can create something that is symbolic of
business plan.
3. How about a Business Plan which is visually presented. This plan
can be shared with company employees as the “True North”.

How should we go about it ? 3. How will we know if we have succeeded ? 1. Right people are not always the folks with big titles and corner offices. 2. Issue a challenge contest to mid-management and tell them if they want to be part of it, They need to tell us why and tell us what they will do with what they learn. We could reserve a 3 hour time slot for this group ( 5-8 people). Business Head could use ‘live customers’ to present how their business plans are linked with the needs of their target customer set.
