The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) in a notice dated Dec 13th, 2019 has implemented mandatory GST E-Invoices and QR code in a phased manner. To execute these changes CBIC issued five Central Tax notifications i.e. Notification No. 68/2019–Central Tax to Notification No. 72/2019–Central Tax. GST E-Invoice, GST QR Code, CBIC, GST The E-Invoicing facility will be effective from January 1st, 2020 on an optional basis to begin with. In the case of B2B supplies made by a registered person, whose aggregate turnover in a financial year exceeds one hundred crore rupees, this E-Invoice shall be mandatory with effect from April 1st, 2020. In the case of supplies by a registered person, whose aggregate turnover in a financial year exceeds five hundred crore rupees, to an unregistered person shall have QR (Quick Response) code. The upcoming E-Invoicing system will be highly productive for businesses especially SMEs and bring in ease of doing business as it will pre-populate the GST returns by reducing reconciliation errors. This will significantly reduce the time taken by businesses in filing GST Returns. The Government’s aim behind implementing the E-Invoice system is to facilitate norms for the taxpayers by further simplifying the GST Return filing system. The Government of India is furthering its digital initiative and easing the flow of business processes by introducing these reforms. GST E-Invoice, GST QR Code, CBIC, GST With this regulation coming into effect, there will be no need to generate the E-Invoice on Government’s tax portal separately. Businesses can continue to use their ERP systems as they were doing previously without any hindrance.
