This document discusses images selected for a mood board to plan a horror/thriller film opening sequence. It summarizes:
1) The first image is of a large old house where most of the action and horror elements will take place, troubling the protagonists and involving the antagonist.
2) The second image is of blood, a typical convention that signifies danger and creates suspense by showing violence has occurred.
3) The third image features knives and other dangerous weapons, common items in thrillers that emphasize danger and tension as the audience knows harm could come.
4) The fourth image combines expressions of fear and grief, important for thrillers to elicit emotions in viewers and start the engagement

Mood board
1.
2. Image 1 - large old house:
The reason why Iโve picked and added this specific house to my mood
board is because this is the house that will contain most of the action
that will occur in my actual movie. It will be the house where the horror
element of my thriller comes into play and also where the main and
venerable protagonists involved will be troubled by the antagonist.
This house is a typical convention in thriller movies like the one I am
planning to produce an opening sequence to as it is commonly found in
them and because of the fact that a house in general is normally seen as
a place full of protection, peace and rest โHome sweet homeโ and when
movies attack that perception through horror it work with full affect in
engaging the audience.
The house is also a perfect size for all the horrific action my film would
consist of giving it a great range of possible scenes to shoot from in
order to help the setting build suspense.
3. Image 2- Blood:
This image is a very important and typical convention found in nearly
almost every single thriller thatโs ever been made. Especially in
thrillers under the sub genre of horror, the use of blood is very
important and very common as there is a large use of violence and
death within those type of films and blood is a feature that easily
allows the audience to recognize when something dangerous is
about to or has happened. It is one of the best ingredients used by
film makers in order to create suspense as it can quickly cause
viewers to feel terrified or anxious to what theyโre seeing going on in
the actual film because of the fact that the view of blood is known to
be a sign of bad, evil or killing. These are all things my movie will
include therefore proving its overall affect
4. Image 3- knives and dangerous weaponry
Dangerous weapons like knives are also definitely very
common in thriller movies. Not only do they create suspense
and tension within an audience because of how lethal they are
known to be and how ugly things can get if fallen into and used
by the wrong hands, but also because they emphasize danger
and a threat to someone or something's safety which is exactly
why they are used in so many thriller/horror movies. The
audience automatically know someone is about to get hurt
when these are involved building up instant suspense (The
most important concept of thrillers) and instant engagement
through curiosity from the crowd, which in all would make the
perfect ingredients for an effective and good horror thriller film
5. Image 4 (combination)- expressions of fear and grief
All thriller movies no matter what subgenre they are under try to
make the audience feel in a certain way in order for them to be
successful and reach the objective of creating feelings of some type of
thrill within their viewers. In the subgenre I am aiming to follow and
base my opening sequence on, a horrific thriller, every single movie
made have an objective of trying to trigger emotions of fright and
sympathy in the audience as they relate to the situation of the
characters they are watching (usually a doomed protagonist). This is
all started by the initial engagement of the audience and is the main
cause of suspense between the movie and its viewers. This is the
most used and effective technique used by directors in movies as it
meets the suspense creating success criteria horrific thrillers must
meet in order to be successful and recognizable through a persons
knowledge of codes and conventions featured in this film type.
6. Image 5- Antagonist & Protagonist
Every thriller movie contains an antagonist and
protagonist, it is simply a must have convention in order
for the actual movie to even be deemed as a type of
thriller. The antagonist is very dominant throughout the
movie and the protagonist is regularly troubled by them
in some sort of way. I aim to show this in my movie right
from the opening sequence to quickly allow the crowd
to know exactly what the type of film theyโre about to
get into.
