3. WHAT is Git?
• a version/revision control system
• distributed (each computer has complete a set
of files)
• developed by Linus Benedict Torvalds in 2005
4. What Git does?
“Checkins” are basically uploading the file that has been changed since last version.
Each time a snapshot of changed files are taken.
5. Why Git?
• Free and Open Source
• Can be used as a work dairy
• Safe deposit of code
• Keep track of files and changes
• Let others collaborate
7. Advantages
• Keep Track of Software Projects
• Independent of Network Access
• Doesn’t need a central server
• Faster compared to others
• Let multiple people work without conflict
8. Drawbacks
• Doesn’t work well with doc, ppt, excel files
• Doesn’t have an User Interface (where you
can click and do the job)
• Supports only Command Line Interface
