• to promote best practice and to improve the
professional standards of geotechnical and geo-
environmental laboratory testing performed in the
UK
• to facilitate a group approach to identifying and
resolving issues faced by laboratories.

7. What have we done
The AGS Laboratories Safety Manual
Has been reviewed and updated and is now available
(on the NEW website)

8. What have we done
Geotechnical Laboratory Standards:
UK input into CEN/ISO standards on Geotechnical Laboratory testing
Parts 1 (water content) and 2 (bulk density) Published 31/12/2014, BS EN
ISO 17892-1 and BS EN ISO 17892-2
Parts 3 (Density of Solid Particles) and 4 (Particle Size Distribution) will be
published around mid-year.
Parts 5 (incremental oedometer) and 6 (fall cone) are in public review now
(BSI website until 18 April). Will be published around the end of the year.

9. What have we done
Geotechnical Laboratory Standards:
Input into future of BS1377 Parts 1-8 – major changes needed
as a result of CEN/ISO standards on Geotechnical Laboratory
testing – what is the future
Input into the revision of BS5930, to be published later this
year (summer?)

Continuing our brief in general
but in particular:
An Introduction to Geotechnical Laboratory Testing for Routine
Construction Projects – is being reviewed and updated
AGS PowerPoint presentation “Ground Investigation Testing” - is being
reviewed and updated
AGS guide “The Selection of Geotechnical Soil Laboratory Testing” - is
being reviewed and updated (your views welcome)
All hopefully for later in 2015

11. What are we doing
Continuing our brief in general but in particular:
Planning a seminar for later this year aimed at -
Guiding/advising Clients and Consultants on the specification and use of
Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Laboratory testing
