STUDENTS’ NAMES: MARCO CAIZAPANTA

COURSE: 5 SEMESTER LANGUAGES
SUGGESTOPEDIA
2. GEORGI LOZANOV
He introduced the contention that students naturally set up psychological
barriers to learning - based on fears that they will be unable to perform and
are limited in terms of their ability to learn.
Lozanov has claimed that most students use only 5 to 10 percent of their
mental capacity and by using this method they can learn a language
approximately three to five times as quickly as through conventional teaching
methods.
“Memorization in learning by the Suggestopedia method seems to be
accelerated 25 times over that in learning by conventional methods”
(Lozanov 1978: 27).
3. WHAT IS SUGGESTOPEDIA ?
Suggestopedia is a teaching method which is based on a modern
understanding of how the human brain works and how we learn most
effectively.
It includes a rich sensory learning, a positive expectation of success and the
use of a varied range of methods like dramatized texts, music, active
participation in songs and games, etc.
Suggestopedia was originally applied mainly in foreign language teaching.
4. KEY ELEMENTS OF SUGGESTOPEDIA
Some of the key elements of Suggestopedia include a rich
sensory learning environment.
A positive expectation of success and the use of a varied
range of methods: dramatized texts, music, active
participation in songs and games.

7. TEACHER’S ROLE
Teacher should create situations in which learners are most
suggestible and then to present linguistic material in a way most likely
to encourage positive reception and retention by learners.
Show absolute confidence in the method.
Maintain a modest enthusiasm.
8. STUDENT’S ROLE
Learners must not try to figure
out, manipulate, or study the
material presented but must
maintain a pseudo-passive state
9. ADVANTAGES OF SUGGESTOPEDIA
Students can lower their affective filter.
Classes are held in ordinary rooms with comfortable
chairs, a practice that may also help them relaxed.
Students remember best and are most influenced by
information coming from an authoritative source,
teachers.
Increase oral proficiency and
lower classroom anxiety
10. DISADVANTAGES OF SUGGESTOPEDIA
If we do not have a comfortable environment we will not learn I a good way.
Environment limitation: Most schools in developing countries have large
classes. Each class consists of 30 to 40 students. There should be 12 students
in the class.
The use of hypnosis: Some people say that Suggestopedia uses a hypnosis, so
it has bad deep effects for human beings. Lozanov strongly denied about it.
Infantilization learning: Suggestopedia class is conditioned be child-like
situation. There are some students who do not like to be treated like this as
they think that they are mature.
