Evaluation 6
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
This is the Dell Inspiron laptop I used at home to do the majority of my work. I also used the computers at college during lessons to carry on with work.
I also used a memory stick to transfer work from my laptop to college. This was very helpful because it allowed me to move work around in order to complete things faster as well as backing up any work.
I used my iPhone 3gs to take a few of the images and I found it extremely easy and very fast to transfer images to my laptop. Also I messaged my friends to let them know about the shoot.
I had my Fujifilm camera which was a lot better for taking my images for the main task because I was able to change many settings in order to get the image I wanted. The photos were also much better quality than the images taken from the iPhone.
I learnt how to use “Adobe Photoshop” by creating my magazine and editing my photos on it. Also I found it very useful when producing the broken CD for my contents page as it was very precise.
I learnt to use “Adobe InDesign” to create my magazine for main task. I found it very difficult and not straightforward at first, but eventually I was able to use it quite easily. It was very good for producing good quality fonts, which I found when doing other work programmes which wasn’t as good such as Microsoft Word.
In addition to this I created a blog account using “Blogger” to post all of my research and planning activities as well as my preliminary task, final magazine and evaluation.
I uploaded all these documents to “slideshare” which then allowed me to embed them in to my blog posts. This was extremely helpful when putting up my work as it was simple and easy to do.
I also used Microsoft Word to type rough drafts and use this document as mock ups for the final activities because I find it easy and simple to navigate in. Also it was used for the majority of the preliminary task as I was comfortable in using this document and was not aware of other softwares.
I used Microsoft Power Point very frequently. I used it to put together all my research, planning and evaluations. I found it was a good way to put information together.
I also used “Microsoft Outlook” to email work to myself from college to home and when I had forgotten my memory stick. I also used it to keep in contact with teachers.
I pasted images and fonts into “Paint” so I could crop/resize the images to adjust them to “InDesign”.
I also used dafont.com to download the font I used for the masthead of my front cover. I found this website very useful and it had a wide variety of fonts I could look at and choose from.
I mainly used the internet to help me to research other music magazines which was very useful and easy to navigate in.
Overall I have learnt a lot about technology throughout this project; before creating my magazine I'd never used Slideshare, Blogger or InDesign. In addition to this, I'd never been on dafont.com before. However I now feel confident in using all of them, plus I feel I can now go on these different types software's and websites anytime and use them well, where as before I didn't even know they existed!
