INTRODUCTION
TO
HACKTOBERFEST
Hacktoberfest is a month-long celebration of open-source projects,
their maintainers, and the entire community of contributors.
Introduction to Hacktoberfest
To participate in Hacktoberfest you can register anytime between
September 26 and October 31.
By participants in Hacktoberfest you can get started with your open
source journey and get a chance to showcase your unique skill set.
The primary goal is to foster collaboration, learning, and
community engagement within the open source ecosystem.
Project maintainers must accept your pull/merge
requests for them to count toward your total
To The first 50,000 participants to have their
first PR/MR accepted will have a tree planted
in their name through Tree Nation
Participants with four pull/merge requests accepted
between October 1 and October 31 will receive a
unique digital reward
Maintains an open source
project, a developer, who has
contributed before and has
some experience
Maintainer
Already contributes to
open source, generally
works in a tech role,
familiar with Git.
Contributor
Never made a pull request
before, or new to tech
in general.
Beginner

HOW TO FIND A PROJECT
TO CONTRIBUTE ?
Firstly decide which programming languages, frameworks, or
technologies you are comfortable with or interested in working with
and this will narrow down your search
How to find a project to contribute?
Use filters to search for projects based on your interests, skills,
and programming languages.
Contribute in a project in which maintainer is active so that you
can get your doubts resolved.
Use Hacktoberfest label to search for projects which are under
Hacktoberfest
Consider starting with beginner-friendly projects. Look for issues
labeled as "good first issue" or "beginner-friendly."
Secondly once you find a project that interests you. Look for a
"Contributing" or "README" file that provides guidelines for
contributors.
Review the project's documentation and code of conduct to
understand the project's standards and expectations.
