Native Americans & The French and Indian War TRADE IS KING By Kendra Maas

Two Notable Native American Chiefs ,[object Object],It is believed that the Ottawa chief, Pontiac, was born in northwest Ohio about 1720. His mother was a Chippewa and his father was an Ottawa. He was raised as an Ottawa in his father’s village. By 1755, Pontiac had become a chief. He also fought with the French against the British in the French and Indian War. Despite the brave attempts made by these and other chiefs the French lost the war and the British gained control of the Ohio country. The Native peoples of the America’s had such a drastically different way of life that they just didn’t understand the ways of the white man. Trade was the tie that bound the two cultures together in what could have been a peaceful co-existence.

The Treaty of Paris With the Treaty of Paris what began as a seemingly harmless act of trading and trying to make the best of the white man’s presence ended in tragedy. The white man’s greed for money, power and land were stronger than the Native American Nations could have ever known.
