Survivor

1. In the survivoractivity,the classwasaskedtopick a selectfew people fromalargergroupto
survive afteranapocalypticevent.We were askedtochoose betweenhighlyrespectedmembersof the
communityandothersfromvariousbackgrounds.We were not toldmuch aboutmostof the survivors
otherthan theiroccupations.
I thoughtthat wasa veryinterestingactivity.Itwasveryinterestingtome how the activitywas
more about stereotypingandgeneralizationasopposedtoafun game,whichIthoughtthiswas. My
groupprimarilypickedthe memberswe saw asthe mostlikelytocontinue the humanrace.Iremember
distinctlykickingoutthe disabledmanwithoutevenknowinghisdisability.Thismade me wonder
whetherornot I have made the rightchoice in the past.Many of my pastdecisionswere made in
complete ignorance.Ineverreallysatdownlongenoughtowonderthe alternatives.Ithoughtthis
activityreallyopenedmyeyestomakingbadchoicesbasedonassumption.
