It is a great pleasure to present our second
‘iPS glossy’ as a magazine which gives
an overview of the projects our ‘Powerful
People’ contributed to in 2014, together with
a snapshot of the iPS machine-room which
works out of our offices world-wide.
2014 kicked-off with the acquisition of
Seacontractors. The integration of this
business within our system was quickly
and smoothly accomplished due to the
professionalism of the iPS staff.
Our ambition to serve our customers world-
wide has been highlighted by the establishment
of iPS Qatar. This is a rapidly growing area
of the world where the focus is on industrial
expansion and infrastructure optimisation.
In order to take advantage of the business
opportunities created by energy reforms our
affiliate business in Mexico has opened a new
office in Ciudad del Carmen.
Closer to home a series of prestigious off-
shore wind farms are under development and
we are proud to be a leading supplier to the
innovative equipment used for example at the
Luchterduinen project. Towards the latter half
of this year the year the extension of the Suez
Canal increased the heartbeat of our Maritime
colleagues and we are now in the process of
supporting our long list of dredging customers
with their requirements. Our contribution to the
London CrossRail metro extension, expanded
even more in 2014 with the sourcing of
additional professionals from mainland Europe.
Our problem solving attitude together with a
ready-for-action mentality is well respected
within the industry and has proved invaluable to
customers. On various occasions we were able
to mobilize several squads of professionals
within 48 hours for clients with urgent
problems, in the Middle East, Africa and the
North Sea.
These achievements are just a glimpse of the
services iPS has provided to its customers.
The photographic impressions and stories
contained within this magazine not only give
an amazing insight into the world of our
candidates but also of our customers.
2014; ANOTHER YEAR OF SUCCESSFUL GROWTH AND OF FULFILLING CUSTOMERS AND
CANDIDATES AMBITIONS! AFTER CELEBRATING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF iPS POWERFUL
PEOPLE IN 2013, WE STARTED 2014 WITH RENEWED AMBITIONS TO STRENGTHEN OUR
POSITION IN KEY MARKETS. DESPITE THE GENERAL ECONOMICAL STAGNATION, WE
CONTINUE TO SEE GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR BUSINESSES. WORLDWIDE TRENDS
WITH REGARD TO ENERGY CONSUMPTION, URBANIZATION, POPULATION GROWTH AND
CLIMATE CHANGES DO FORM A HEALTHY BASIS FOR SOLID GROWTH.

our company and explain our philosophy to
(potential) customers.
We are proud of our mentality which allows us

what it is all about
TABLE OF CONTENTS
PROJECTS IN FIGURES
iPS takes part in numerous large
projects. Sometimes it’s not entirely
clear just how vast these projects are.
For this edition of the iPS magazine,
we have highlighted three of our recent
projects and, next to their description,
we have supplied a set of (staggering)
figures, complete with infographics to
to illustrate just how impressive these
projects really are.
While people make the world go round,
iPS makes people go around the world!
And we have been doing so for over
25 years. To be able to do that, you
need a team of dedicated, hard working
and reliable people. Meet the Powerful
People that are the driving force behind
iPS!

INSIGHTS INTO iPS
How much time do we spend on the

do we send and receive each year? How
much water do we drink yearly and

iPS is currently busy with solidifying its brand value. To further
grow into a house hold name, we utilise a number of channels.
We have done interviews for TV, radio and the news papers and
we were present at trade fairs. We are also further developing
our visual identity. See what our people in the communication
department have been up to!
Without feedback, how would we
improve? We value our clients’ opinions,
so we asked them to provide us with
feedback. It turns out that our clients
are quite satisfied with us. To see exactly
how satisfied they are,
go to page 28.
All work and no play would make iPS a dull company. So we
make sure to get out of the office every now and then. We
would like to share our pictures of the iPS International week,
our trip to the Dredging Museum and our annual bowling
competition.

COMMUNICATION
WHAT HAPPENED TO US
IN THE LAST YEAR
A lot. We participated in several
international exhibitions with a stand,
sent out big news using press releases
and covered the media in publications,
television and radio.
It all started with a radio interview in the
WerkenFm studio when Director Rob
Kooijmans and Communication Officer
Hugo Passchier were invited to talk
about iPS’ work within the recruitment
industry. This was followed by an
interview in Dutch Review and by
The Telegraaf newspaper.
We continued the series with a company
presentation on television, another
interview in Waterkracht and an
interview in Nicaragua.
We are proud of those accomplishments
and we would therefore like to share
them with you.

The partnership with the company
‘General Crewing’ made it possible to
provide iPS with local insights within
the Baltic countries. The Founder of
General Crewing Mr. Gediminas Usas
explains, “General Crewing is still a
young company, but has overtaken many
similar companies and has become one
of the leading recruitment companies in
Lithuania”.
Bringing speed, flexibility, humanism
and help for both clients and candidates
alike has earned General Crewing a
respectable reputation in the Baltic
region. The main goal for establishing
the partnership with iPS was to create
a representative company who would
ensure that the right human resources
are supplied from the Baltic nations,
including fulfilling crew management,
implementing payroll systems, arranging
trainings and providing other necessary
services. “General Crewing fully assists in
all applicable activities.”
In order to expand and enhance the
partnership with iPS, General Crewing
has clearly defined future plans which will
improve their operations and commerce.
Their plans for the next year start with
implementing their own transport service,
which will lead to more efficient and
secure transfer services for iPS and their
employees within this region.
The General Crewing story started
in March, 2014. After researching a
solution to needs of seafarers wich
was missing in other crewing agencies,
Gediminas decided to convert his dream
into reality. “Ambitions, innovations
and experienced support from iPS
has created foundations which are
growing every day. Today I am proud
of people who helped to convert my
dream into reality and I am very happy
that the partnership with iPS has been
established. Many thanks to them!”
LITHUANIA (GENERAL CREWING)
The iPS affiliated company, Full Crew
S.A. (Mexico) expanded its operations in
2014 with the opening of their second
office in the country. “Due to the growth
over the last years, an office in Ciudad
del Carmen was the next logical step”,
Full Crew’s manager Guido van der Zwet
explains.
The majority of the offshore oil and gas
business comes from the Campeche
area, and the main port for crew changes
and logistics go through Ciudad del
Carmen.
The office has space for growth as the
Energy Reform in Mexico promises a
growth in exploration and production,
which attracts scores of new companies,
as well as expansion for established
companies already in the area.
“The office has all sought-after
amenities such as meeting rooms, a
waiting room, expanded office space
and a van for transport of personnel
and goods.” The office is run by a local
team of Mexican nationals, who are
responsible for operational excellence
and are the eyes and ears for Full Crew.

iPS – Powerful people provides services
in the United Arab Emirates supported
by our sponsor Mr Khalid Mohamed
Al Qubaisi – Managing Director of Al
Yaseah.
In 1981, Al Yaseah embarked in the
energy sector under the guidance of
the late Mohamed Bin Helal Feraih
Al Qubaisi. By 1999, the company
completely transformed itself from a
supply company to an organization that
deals with Integrity Maintenance
Services, Fabrication Mechanical
Contracting, Engineering Consultancy
and Aviation Services.
The same year Khalid - an experienced
aircraft maintenance engineer, took over
and developed Al Yaseah into a group of
17 big international companies based
and working in Abu Dhabi today.
Khalid:“ I strongly believe that the
appreciation of human talents and

The local identity of iPS – Powerful

with the support of our sponsor
Ali Al Misnad of Al Baida group.
Ali: “Al Baida group is one of the leading
business conglomerates in the state of
Qatar and was established in 1970. It
is classified as Grade A contractor for
infrastructure road works. The group is
ISO and OHSAS certified and employing
more than 1800 employees in various
business sectors such as: construction,
transportation and logistics, recruitment
and engineering.”
The group operates under the clear
vision of its chairman Eng. Ali Abdulatif
Al Misnad, who is a very well-known
high profile business Entrepreneur in the
State of Qatar with over 30 years of vast
experience in Engineering, Construction
Management Business Development.
He is very well connected with the
a successful family business! We will
proceed to respect the tradition and
inherited values and keep the business
in the family, for generations ahead.”
The cooperation between iPS – Powerful
People and Al Yaseah was established
three years ago. Theo Wanders, a
co-founder of iPS and Director Rob
Kooijmans had the opportunity to meet
Khalid at the time when the company
was already working with Khalid’s
partners in Abu Dhabi. “Making a good
selection of qualified people is hard
nowadays. iPS is well experienced within
Government authorities whilst being
among the high rank decision makers in
the State of Qatar.
Al Baida recently entered into a
partnership with iPS – Powerful People
to cover the incremental local demand
of professionals in various infrastructure
and engineering projects in Qatar. “The
State of Qatar has been chosen to host
the 2022 World Cup, creating a wide
range of business opportunities. The
Arabian Gulf country plans to spend up
to $100 billion in infrastructure projects
between now and the Games in 2022,
including roads, bridges, highways,
railways, ports, and other related
engineering services”, Ali explains.
One of the key projects targeted by the
Al Baida and iPS partnership is the Qatar
Rail and Metro Project. Four multi-
billion Riyal contracts were awarded in
2013 (with a the fifth for the construction

FINANCE DEPARTMENT
If we look at the Finance department of
iPS there was a lot going on in the past
years, our strong growth in turnover,
the extended focus on compliance and
customer needs went hand-in-hand
with making efficiency improvements.
Within the department we split the tasks
and responsibilities into three sub-
departments, named Accounting, Wages
and Payroll Solutions. Those three sub-
departments are built to work closely
together in order to ensure the quality,
compliance and timing in our work. Our
team at the headquarters in Capelle aan
den IJssel consists of 12 colleagues,
assisted by local administrators located
in the UK and in the United Arabic
Emirates.
Our main targets within the department
are the accuracy, efficiency and quality of
our work. The Wages department strives
for employee satisfaction, which means
that our seconded employees receive the
correct salary on time and quick answers
to all their payroll related questions. The
Accounting department strives for as
quick and accurate invoicing as possible,
conducting a careful bookkeeping
system and managing the collection
process as fast as we can. The Payroll
Solutions department is responsible for
ad-hoc calculations and our internal
margin control.
We have succeeded in attaining stability
and reducing vulnerability within our
department and have managed to build
a strong team capable of supporting the
commercial departments.
Management Reporting was further
improved by the introduction of Jet
Reports, a faster and accurate reporting
tool. This enables us to provide our
Management Team and Directors with
every report they require in order to
control and manage the business.
During the first half of 2014 we further
embarked on our paper reduction
initiative, this is a mutual target for
the whole department in which every
member takes individual responsibility.
Time-sheets and pay slips have been
digitally filed. Invoice scanning is
introduced and we have expanded
our own electronic invoicing to 100%.
Despite the increased workload, both for
the Accounting and Wages departments,
we have maintained quality and will
improve further.
We are constantly updating our internal
control and compliance framework,
by implementing procedures and
performing internal audits.
PAYROLLING
We have been involved with cross-border
employment since 1988 and based on
this we are expanding our payrolling
service to clients employing people
who work all over the world. Although
working with colleagues from diverse
cultural backgrounds can be beneficial,
there are always complex issues that
accompany this. Staffing in general and
managing a payroll is our specialty.
iPS has in-depth knowledge of all tax
and social security issues that might
arise from working abroad. We do not
only take away the worries of complex
international tax and social security
issues but also ensure that clients
are fully compliant with all aspects of
the applicable law and regulations.
iPS provides a full range of services
for payrolling. Obviously, we can offer
digitally rendered pay slips, but we can
do much more than that!
With the payrolling services offered by
iPS, our clients are:
•	Relieved of the administrative burden
of payrolling;
•	Fully compliant with relevant and
applicable law and regulations;
•	 On top of fiscal opportunities;
•	Able to lower their payrolling costs
significantly.
It is quite significant that a company the
size of iPS has such in-house expertise
and knowledge to be able to make such
a difference to employees and clients
alike.

vessels Rolling Stone, Seahorse and Flintstone,
are able to execute rubble work at water depths
up to 2,000 meters with great precision. This is
possible because these vessels are equipped
with an advanced fall pipe system including an
active heave-compensated Remote Operated
Vehicle (ROV) at the bottom of the pipe.
Tideway also uses dredgers and backhoe
dredgers in relation to the installation of
pipelines, such as the leveling of the seabed
and dredging trenches. Additionally Tideway
constructs landings of oil and gas pipelines.

Five years after the completion of

Luchterduinen Wind Farm.
Van Oord will deploy the transport

located off the Dutch coast between
the cities of Noordwijk and Zandvoort.
After completion the wind farm will
generate green electricity for nearly
150,000 households and help to reduce

The electricity will be transported to

PROJECTS
More than 150 years ago the original
London ‘Tube’ System was inaugurated
and two years ago an equally ambitious
construction project was started:
‘Crossrail’.
‘Crossrail’ will create a system of
tunnels allowing larger trains and
increased capacity to transport people
from one area of London to the other.
Twenty-one kilometres of new twin-
bore tunnels are being constructed to
deliver new rail tunnels. Eight giant
tunnel boring machines are being
used to construct the new tunnels.
Each TBM weighs approximately 1000
tons and is capable of drilling at depths
of up to 40m.
Teams of dedicated construction workers
are working 24 hours a day to complete
the tunnels for Europe’s largest civil
engineering project.
iPS is very proud to have been chosen
to deliver qualified staff for such a
prestigious project.

COMPETENT EMPLOYEES
My dream is to keep growing and
eventually turn into a tactic buyer on
a strategic level.
Fabian has a passion for purchasing and
prefers to work in the maritime industry.
Born in Surinam, Fabian’s parents
immigrated to the Netherlands with
him at the age of five. After his study
in Logistics Transport Management
Fabian gained his first experience in
the work field as a buyer for a large
dredging company. “I have worked
for this company for four years and
I decided it was time to broaden my
horizon. I started searching fo searching
for another opportunity.” Luckily, iPS
Consultant Femke van der Willigen was
able to offer him a new and challenging
position at Damen Shipyards: “Currently
I’m working as a buyer at one of the
main shipbuilding companies in the
world. Here I can develop myself and
gain more experience and knowledge of
this beautiful and complex industry”.
Even after a few months, Fabian is
already facing a lot of responsibilities
working on a international production
scale: “I am responsible for the purchase
of the necessary components from
China and to negotiate a good price-
quality ratio. I have to make sure these
components will be delivered on time
in order to prevent any delay and to
successfully continue the process. I’m
doing this for several ships now and my
long term goal is to manage a significant
part of our fleet.”
Fabian appreciates iPS for its short
lines. “Everything runs smoothly and
the communication is outstanding. iPS
has an understanding of the desires
of it’s clients and has great knowhow
of all their industries”. Fabian has
high ambitions and wants to become a
valuable coordinator: “My dream is to
keep growing and eventually turn into a
tactic buyer on a strategic level”.

Peter is what they might call an ‘early
bloomer’ as he was already combining
his academic studies with work and was
living on his own by the age of sixteen.
“I always had multiple and diverse jobs
when I was younger. I cannot recall a
time without work”, Peter says.
Peter had his first experience with the
HR industry when he started to work
in a hospital during his Legal studies.
After his graduation he kept on working
there, but put an end to it after eight
years: “I wanted to step out of the non-
profit sector and make my career in a
commercial company.” This brought him
to a big cosmetics brand and later to a
major Japanese company, known for its
cameras.
Within this company he was given the
responsibility for hiring 1.600 people
within three years. Peter: “It was an

immense undertaking with my team and
adding the amusing integration of the
Japanese culture within the company, it
were surely twelve years to remember.
However, it was time for me to move
forward.“
His next step: managing a group of HR
managers at a global dredging company.
“My task was to crew several projects.
This is interesting as you can see this as
a small company at site”, Peter explains.
He is able to match the right people
for these projects. This is shown by his
achievement in Qatar where he crewed
3.000 people on short base.
After an offshore project in Brazil, iPS
assisted Peter with his new adventure
as HR Director for the 2nd
Suez Canal
Project. We wish Peter the best of luck
in his new role and we expect to remain
in good collaboration for future crewing
solutions in which iPS is a global leader.

Alex has been working for iPS since May
2014 as a Mechanic/Operator. Alex, “It
has always been very important to me to
keep developing myself. Before joining
iPS I worked as a process operator in the
food industry, where I earned my Vapro B
certificate. I am currently studying for the
Operator C certificate.
The reason for the change in direction,
“I was looking for a position with a
company which could offer me better
future prospects. The offshore industry
due to its operational diversity proved to
be the most suitable option”.
Alex was assured by iPS Den Helder that
he would be able to continue his training
within the industry because there are
a lot of similarities in the production
process. What Alex also appreciated
was that he very quickly became a full
member of the crew and that his working
schedule is 14 days on/14 days off. “You
get used to this pretty quickly, especially
the part that you are at home!”
Bernardino, who comes from Cape
Verde, worked on various ships around
South America before finally settling in
the Netherlands with his family. He has
been employed by iPS as a cook for the
last seventeen years and has worked on
dredging vessels for some of the largest
companies.
Bernandino’s goal is to make people
happy by cooking for them. “I like to cook
for people on the bigger ships, partly for
the company but also because it is very
impressive to see lots of people working
on large projects all over the world. It is
literally ‘all over the world’ as his work
has brought him to almost every corner,
“I have worked in Papua New Guinea,
Nigeria, Guatemala, Dubai, Italy, England,
Qatar and Russia amongst others. While
I am working abroad, and if time allows, I
like to explore the surroundings”. The two
weeks on/two weeks off schedule means

Since Ron moved to Argentina he has had difficulty
finding work which met his preferred rotation
schedule. This came to an end when he joined iPS in
2005: “iPS has given me the opportunity to work at
my own pace and comfort.”
He is loyal to iPS as he likes the friendly climate and
the contact with iPS consultants; “in particular Joke
Schroeten”, Ron says. He is also pleased with his
salary: “I receive a standard salary regardless of the
project”. Ron enjoys ‘hopping’ from one company
to another, this means working on various types of
different vessels. He has more experience however
with hopper dredgers and likes this ship type the
most. Especially on short, small projects: “I like to
work on smaller vessels. It brings me to tiny bays
or harbours and it allows me to work more with
the resources of the vessel”. Ron continues; “In my
opinion, the ambiance is also friendlier on a smaller
ship. A very important element as it is all about
working closely together.”
As a Captain he feels responsible for the team on
board. He tries to stimulate teamwork; “only with
a team and good team spirit can you make sure
the job gets done properly”. This keeps him highly
motivated. Working for iPS has brought him all
around the world: “I have worked in Russia, Siberia,
the Caribbean, South America, West- and South
Africa and many more countries, as well as various
places in Europe. I prefer to work in the Caribbean
and South America region as this is relatively close
to my home. I have to say that iPS does take this into
account”.

for his change of direction: “I wanted to

for it and make this move”.
During the last year Martin was working
for Nam Shell on a production facility as
well as onboard the Seafox 4 and Seafox

An important part of our QHSE
system is continuous evaluation and
improvement. Our yearly Customer
Satisfaction Survey is a critical part of
this process and gives our clients the
opportunity to reflect upon our work.
The survey was sent to all iPS’ clients
from the past year. The results are
very valuable to us, as they help us to
develop ourselves further by answering
questions like: How can we improve
our services in those areas that mean
the most to our clients? “We take the
outcome of the survey very seriously
and discuss this with every department

continues: “Over 90% of our clients are
satisfied with iPS’ services, which is an
amazing result!”.
Being a transparent company, we would
like to share the most important survey
results with you using the diagrams

We may say that we are proud that
the average result is more than 90%

the island of Rhodes in Greece. Following
seven years of working in the tourist

he returned to Rhodes, but finally
ended up in the Netherlands.
“I came to the Netherlands for holidays
in 2012, but I liked the direct and friendly
approach of the Dutch mentality so much,
that I decided to come back two years
later for more.” Dimitris joined iPS in
February 2014. Like Andre, he was also
recruited via Facebook: “I was given a
lifetime opportunity to build a new career.
”He joined iPS because he was impressed
by the enormity of the industry. “It is
challenging and fulfilling to help people
get a job during the global recession.”
He likes to be part of the Oil Gas

experience in sales and administration.
At the same time he also managed to
obtain a truck driver’s license which
enabled him to deliver flowers during
his studies. He had always been
interested in legal matters and
therefore decided to do two Masters,
namely in Civil and Corporate Law.
Hoping that this would increase
his employment prospects.
Since joining iPS in May 2014 he has
also become involved with the payroll
guide team and the tax control aspect of
the business. Prior to his arrival at iPS
the company was divided into commercial
and financial sectors.

Born and raised in Delft, Hugo studied
commercial economics. After his study
he started working abroad: “I wanted to
work and travel at the same time, which
brought me to Hungary and France where
I worked as a Manager in the catering
industry”, Hugo says. When he came back
he joined a big travel agency to work as a

by travelling around the world, “I got a
chance to travel to Australia and combine
this travel with work. In total I traveled
for nine months before returning to the

Netherlands.” Hugo started in the year
2014 by joining iPS after having worked in
the television business for several years.
“iPS is a very interesting company with
spontaneous colleagues and operating in
captivating industries.”
He never realised how big the coverage of
these industries actually is, “for example
maritime, it is all around you. Almost
everything you see, everything you touch
and everything you eat is brought to you
by this industry.” Hugo is responsible for
the whole communication spectrum of
iPS.
“My goal is to introduce iPS to people
who have not heard of us yet, as well
as improve our presence for those who
have.” He gets his joy by getting the best
return on investment: “a cat and mouse
game is what I call it. Trying to gain the
most publicity for the least amount of
investment, that is what it all comes down
to.” Because of his function Hugo has
contact with every department.
Hugo, “It is really an advantage to work
with all my colleagues and try to help
them where needed. This is a good way
to get to know the business as I am able
to learn from the best.” His target is to
promote iPS as much as possible
by delivering more structure within
the company, communication wise:
“I like to be the thin line between
different departments.”
“Legal affairs were always somewhere
in the middle, but now that there is a
dedicated legal department this enables
the other departments to concentrate on
their own particular sector.” His target
is to deliver more structure within his
department: “my goal is to level up
the quality and streamline it with
the rest of iPS.”
I like the fact that my work is never the
same. I like to dive deeper in cases and
find the red line.
It is not about ideas,
it is about
making ideas happen.

Kasper is very keen on sports.
During his study in Sport Management
he organised multiple sports events:
“Organising events was good fun as
I received many compliments and you
actually see the results of your efforts.
Another aspect was that you could see
the pool of volunteers grow due to the
good hospitality you could offer during
the events”, Kasper says. He dreamed
of working in the sports industry within
a coordinating role: “I have always
been busy with sports, like football,
snowboarding and going to the
gym from time to time”.
After his study he started working as
an account manager at a big crewing
agency in the Oil Gas industry. After
working there for more than two years he
decided that it was time to travel: “I went
to Vietnam as I had always dreamed of
driving across that country by motorbike,
it was truly impressive”.
Kasper joined iPS in July 2014.
“I immediately liked the informal but
professional atmosphere within the
office. Also the industry seemed really
interesting to me as I had always
wondered how all the big projects
worked. It is amazing to be a part
of this now.” Currently he is working

“at this internship I learned what a
fascinating business it is.
I was encouraged to follow on with a

was fortunate to be offered a second
internship in the consumer goods
sector, as part of the Human Resources

Commencing work for iPS in April
2014, Ilse says choosing iPS was an
easy decision: “It is an interesting and

He is trying to find the right people
and make sure that projects will end
successfully. “Teamwork is really
important, but it is good to have your own
responsibilities as well”. He likes iPS as
he finds the industry is very fascinating:
“also, the friendly colleagues make it
a pleasant place to work at”. Kasper is
eager to develop himself into a major
consultant, “I would like to go beyond
the mediation stage and become a
full-service contact that can help the
clients in a mutually beneficial and
efficient way”.
On top of this she says that “the
environment within the office is really
friendly and comfortable”. There
are two sides to her job: Clients and
Candidates, Ilse loves the challenge of
correctly understanding the needs of
our clients and searching for matching
candidates.” This is pivotal to maintaining
a professional relationship between all
parties.” The Tunnelling industry is a
niche market where it is important to
keep up with developments and maintain
our database, this helps with finding the
right people and our strategic future
planning. “My colleagues are really
open which makes it easy to get along
and learn, they are really helpful”, Ilse
says. Ilse shares the responsibility for
monitoring our occupational health
programme, which is designed to ensure
that our employees receive the best
care during their employment with iPS.

I find it really interesting
to work with
all the different
personalities within
the industry.
Coming from the south of the
Netherlands, Lieke gained experience in
the hospitality business during her study
in Facility Management. Lieke: “I liked the
personal contact with people”.
Lieke joined iPS in January 2014 to fill
in for a colleague who was absent due
to maternity leave. It was an obvious
choice: “My sister was already working
for iPS as a consultant. Also, I could start
right away and there are lots of growth
opportunities.” Nowadays, Lieke is still
working for us in the Commercial Back
Office.
Next to her Backoffice work, she also
helps the directors’ secretary with facility
management. Lieke: “this connects with
my study which makes it interesting.
I am also enjoying assisting people and
doing diverse procedures”.

As mentioned, she likes to have close
contact with people: “I want to make
them feel comfortable.” She also enjoys
working with several projects in order to
get to know the people of the industry.
Marit was born in Argentina and due to
her father’s work was raised in various
countries throughout the world. At the
age of ten she came to the Netherlands.
After graduating from her study in Human
Resource Management in Rotterdam,
she worked as a Human Resource
Administrator at a large insurance
company. Marit’s dream, however,
was to work more closely with people,
and thus she kept an eye out for a
new adventure. Marit found this new
adventure at iPS in March 2014.
Another major attraction in iPS for her
was the international aspects of the job,
“I knew from a young age that I wanted
to work in an international environment”.
Currently, she is mainly working for
clients in the Middle East: “the cultural
aspects of my job make it very
multi-dimensional. For example,
the types of projects are different than
we are used to in Europe which makes

it really interesting.” She is happy being

lights up both by working with the clients
as well as with her co-workers: “It does

“The open climate of iPS and the different

collaboration between the departments:

not feel like working with colleagues, it
feels like working with friends and this
is very important to me.” Marit has a
clear vision of her next goals: “I want to
develop such partnerships that go beyond
helping with candidates by also providing
strategic insights, and thus making
iPS indispensable”.

It is really a fulfillment
to help employees
in a way so they don’t
have to worry about
their payments.
After studying International Business,
Natasja started working at a recruitment
agency as a recruiter. “Within this function
I found out that I really liked to work for
such a company.” After one year she joined
another recruitment agency in the Oil
Gas industry to work as a finance assistant.
After six years with that company she was
searching for a new career step, “I wanted
to specialise in salary administration”.
This brought her to iPS in May 2014:
“I had the feeling that iPS could give
me what I was searching for, a focus on
salary administration in an international
environment.” Natasja continues, “the
fact that iPS works in multiple interesting
industries, makes me want to learn all
about these industries. The informal
ambiance within the company is also very
nice”. Natasja is comfortable with a hard
working company: “I feel at home with

deadlines and like to work with targets.
Also the diversity in conditions per
employee makes it a contrasting day,
every day. No contract is the same and
this requires more attention”, this is what
she finds important.
Within iPS I have the
freedom to develop myself
along with the growth
ambitions of the company.
“At iPS every industry is different and
attracts different people, this is very
interesting and it creates a very dynamic
atmosphere”. Her ambition is to grow
within the function and work more with
international taxes.“I would also like
to have more direct contact with the
employees to get to know them better
and be able to help them more
efficiently” Natasja says.
Thomas roots lie in the UK, but he was
born and raised in the Arabian Gulf
region. When he was 18 years old he
came to the Netherlands for his university
education. Thomas: “I studied Business
Administration and was often combining
this with several part-time jobs at the
side.”
After his graduation in 2012, he started
his first fulltime job as a Procurement
Analyst with a global Chemical Distributor
located in Rotterdam within the Shipping
department. Thomas liked the Shipping
aspect of the business and decided to
develop himself further in that direction.
”I moved to a position at Marlow Offshore,
where I underwent comprehensive
training and learned a lot about crewing
within the Offshore Oil Gas industry”,
Thomas says.
Two years later, iPS offered the
opportunity to open doors towards

large ‘turn key projects’ within multiple
business sectors such as Offshore,
Dredging, Maritime, but also more niche
sectors such as Tunnelling. “Currently I
am responsible for full Maritime business
development within the European
operations region. In particular the
offshore sector in Scandinavia is a strong
focus point.”
Thomas enjoys his current role as his
function provides him a lot of freedom
within the company to organise, assess
and bring improved efficiency to the
business, much to the benefit of our
clients and candidates. “iPS is willing
to take the risk to explore industry
opportunities in innovative new sectors,
this motivates me to explore new ideas
and business channels.”
Thomas continues: “My personal
ambition aligns perfectly with the
aspiration of iPS as a company to grow
and develop in new business areas and in
the Offshore sector in particular“.

Pim studied Safety Security. During
the last two years of the course the
weeks were split between four days work
experience and one day school, which
meant that Pim was able to gain work
experience whilst studying. After his
graduation he pursued his hunger for
travel and went touring through Asia for
five months. “Once I came back to the
Netherlands I did some temporary work
to kill time whilst applying for a fulltime
job.”
iPS hired Pim in December 2013. It was
a good choice for him: “our work is
interesting as the industry is relatively
new and is currently growing a lot. I grew
up with boats and was always fascinated
with anything related to water. It makes
me happy to work in this environment”.
Pim likes the fact that he is able to work
with big companies and become a part
of well known projects. The contact with

candidates and clients gives the most
joy. “My job is two sided: I am placing
someone and I am simultaneously
helping the company by doing so.” Pim
continues: “it is an open company that
works hard and every single colleague is
trying to get the best results. This climate
is really important and satisfying to me”.
Sharon lived in Belgium for five years
before she followed two studies in the
Netherlands: Hospitality Management
and Human Resource Management.
“My first study, Hospitality Management,
took me to the United States where
I stayed for one year. While in America
I came in contact with several Human
Resource disciplines which made me
decide to follow an extra study: Human
Resource Management.” This extra study
paid off as she followed up by working
as an international recruiter and HR
manager in the Care Industry for three
years. After searching for a new job
opportunity she found iPS, where she
started in February 2014. Sharon: “It was
a good choice. I really like to work in a
fast growing and international industry.”
Especially working for iPS makes her
smile: “From the first moment it felt like
home, the ambiance is truly amazing”.
Sharon is mainly focused on the dredging

industry. “It is a dynamic industry which
changes a lot. It is full of challenges as
there are many factors which you have
to take into account”. She enjoys the
combination of interacting with people
and commerce. This commercial side
is quite new for her and it is a skill she
wants to develop. “There are lots of
opportunities to grow within the company.
I like the fact that we work as one team.”
Her other goal is to act more on projects
in the dredging industry and as well
to learn more about other industries
like towage, offshore and merchant:
“these are really interesting industries”.
Next to this her ambition is to focus
more internationally: “I am not tied to
the Netherlands so they can send me
anywhere if needed”.
I get energy from the friendship and
contact with colleagues together with
placing people.
For me, teamwork is
an important
key to success.
His goal is to strengthen the team in
respect to the upcoming Suez Canal
Project: “I want iPS to become the
preferred supplier for this impressive
project. At the same time I try to raise the
quality level.

TACO ENGELAAR
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Taco holds a Masters degree in
International Business Administration.
During his studies he worked for a Bank
in the Professional Services Department
for almost four years. He was also part
of an exchange programme which
took him to Mexico. “I liked it so much
that I went back to work at the local
Dutch Embassy where I was part of the
Economic Department.”
His tasks were infrastructure
improvement and promoting relations
with Dutch companies. iPS found Taco in
April 2014. He was asked to help build
up a new office in Qatar. “I liked the
international growth ambition and the
young team of iPS so I said yes.” Taco
continues:
“It is, of course, also a nice opportunity
to help build up new businesses in the
Middle East.” Taco likes the industry
and wants to work together with big
companies for their huge projects.
“Especially Qatar is interesting. It is
booming over there.”
He wants to make clients’ projects a
success by delivering the right people.
“It is amazing to see that projects
actually work. You can see it succeeding,
this is really fulfilling.” Taco sees
personal contact as the most interesting
part of this job: “I meet smart, interesting
and well experienced people who are
making a success of big projects. I learn
a lot from them.” A very important goal
is to market iPS in the region:
“I have been given the chance to
introduce iPS to big companies and to
develop a local office with a vast pool
of candidates and clients.”
It is exciting
to be part of
something bigger.

ONE COMPANY
teambuilding is important to us
Twice a year, iPS invites the managers
of our international offices to the
Netherlands for a mid year update.
This year the 2014 mid-year evaluation
took place in the summer.
On day one the iPS directors kicked off
the international week by presenting
the iPS goals for the coming half year.
This presentation was followed, the
next day, by the international goals and
accomplishments, presented by our
managers.
To break the week, we implemented
some activities on day three. It was
time for everybody to show who the
biggest daredevils were by joining the
‘RIB-experience’. This is an attraction
where very fast boats are racing across
Rotterdam harbour. After this wet
happening it was time for a drink. And
what good timing, as the Dutch were
winning their first FIFA World Cup match
that night! All dressed in orange we
enjoyed a drink, an exciting match and
informal quality time with colleagues.
The following day was marked down
for our managers to gain extra insights
by paying a visit to Jack-Up Barge, one
of our valued clients. The last day of
this international week was completely
focused on our new colleagues during our
half-yearly ‘Rookie Dinner’. A dinner for
our new colleagues which gave them a
chance to get to know the people behind
iPS and get familiar with the workflow.
In short, an important week and we are
happy that there will be a winter edition
as well. This edition will also be kicked off
by presentations and targets. There will
be a “stamppot festival” organised. Since
‘stamppot’ is a typical dish of the Dutch
cuisine, it will be a nice surprise for our
international colleagues.
On Wednesday, the managers will spend
their next day in the theater which will be
followed by ‘glow in the dark’ midget golf.
Finally the week will end, as always, with
our Christmas party.

BOWLING
“IT WAS AMAZING TO SEE OUR CLIENTS FROM ANOTHER
ANGLE, WHILE YOU ARE RACING OVER THE WATER.”
Another example of our activities
in order to build up our team spirit
outside the office is our annual bowling
tournament. It all started in November
2012 when our Maritime department
wanted to organise more informal events
with iPS’ colleagues. They initiated an
evening with dinner and bowling. It was
such a success that it has grown into an
annual event including a challenge cup.
This year we had six teams participating,
and again, it turned out to be a
successful evening.

teambuilding is important to us
iPS started as a small recruitment agency, dedicated to the
dredging industry. In order to get more aware of the knowhow
within this specific industry, iPS’ new faces paid a visit to the
National Dredging Museum in Sliedrecht, the Netherlands.
This museum is unique in the world and offered us an
opportunity to get acquainted with the future and the past of
the dredging industry.
The museum covers dredging from the very beginning up
to the present time. It is known for their pictures, models,
illustrations and original dredging machinery in- and outside
the museum, like a giant cutterhead.

EDITORS NOTE

Someone once told me that change is the only constant in life.
This covers our whole company, but it is certainly true for the
communication team which has spent the better part of a year
working tirelessly to evolve our corporate identity for the better.
You saw evidence in our magazine, when we redesigned our
flyers and calendar.
This time it was the magazine’s turn with our 2015 issue.
We hope you like what you see.
This glossy was established with the support of iPS’ staff,
suppliers, candidates and clients. The tasks of copywriting and
bringing together all the bits and pieces were assigned to me,
Hugo Passchier.
My goal is to introduce iPS to people who have not heard of
us yet as well as improve our presence for those who have.
The motivation behind it: show the world who we are, what we
do and aim to be as transparent as possible.
Like last year, this magazine is a result of good cooperation
between all the colleagues of iPS, Tommy Kleyn (Blueboost),
Ron Nobel (Efficiënta Offset drukkerij) and Michel Warta (iPS).
From the beginning of this year, Michel has transferred the
role as leading editor to me and now mainly supports the
collaboration between all parties.
Coming back to our evolvement one of the most involving
changes are yet to come. We will show that to you in our
next issue.
See you then!
Blueboost is a Rotterdam-based design agency
that specialises in graphic design, photography
and illustration. Driving force behind Blueboost is
Tommy Kleyn (1977). Kleyn has nearly twenty years of
experience in formentioned fields.
Shell, Honda, Hyundai, Mazda, Deloitte, the Dutch
Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment,
Rabobank and, of course, iPS are amongst the
clients Tommy worked and still works for. Besides
commissioned work, Blueboost reserves part of their
time to work on non-commissioned, self-inspired
projects. This to keep our minds limber, explore
creativity and cultivate fresh ideas.
These days communication -in many cases- consists
of a combination of graphic design, photography
and illustration. Blueboost masters all of these
disciplines, a quality that proves to be quite convenient
for our clients. And: we’re a small operation. This keeps
costs at a minimum and effiency at a max.

  • 3. It is a great pleasure to present our second ‘iPS glossy’ as a magazine which gives an overview of the projects our ‘Powerful People’ contributed to in 2014, together with a snapshot of the iPS machine-room which works out of our offices world-wide. 2014 kicked-off with the acquisition of Seacontractors. The integration of this business within our system was quickly and smoothly accomplished due to the professionalism of the iPS staff. Our ambition to serve our customers world- wide has been highlighted by the establishment of iPS Qatar. This is a rapidly growing area of the world where the focus is on industrial expansion and infrastructure optimisation. In order to take advantage of the business opportunities created by energy reforms our affiliate business in Mexico has opened a new office in Ciudad del Carmen. Closer to home a series of prestigious off- shore wind farms are under development and we are proud to be a leading supplier to the innovative equipment used for example at the Luchterduinen project. Towards the latter half of this year the year the extension of the Suez Canal increased the heartbeat of our Maritime colleagues and we are now in the process of supporting our long list of dredging customers with their requirements. Our contribution to the London CrossRail metro extension, expanded even more in 2014 with the sourcing of additional professionals from mainland Europe. Our problem solving attitude together with a ready-for-action mentality is well respected within the industry and has proved invaluable to customers. On various occasions we were able to mobilize several squads of professionals within 48 hours for clients with urgent problems, in the Middle East, Africa and the North Sea. These achievements are just a glimpse of the services iPS has provided to its customers. The photographic impressions and stories contained within this magazine not only give an amazing insight into the world of our candidates but also of our customers. 2014; ANOTHER YEAR OF SUCCESSFUL GROWTH AND OF FULFILLING CUSTOMERS AND CANDIDATES AMBITIONS! AFTER CELEBRATING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF iPS POWERFUL PEOPLE IN 2013, WE STARTED 2014 WITH RENEWED AMBITIONS TO STRENGTHEN OUR POSITION IN KEY MARKETS. DESPITE THE GENERAL ECONOMICAL STAGNATION, WE CONTINUE TO SEE GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR BUSINESSES. WORLDWIDE TRENDS WITH REGARD TO ENERGY CONSUMPTION, URBANIZATION, POPULATION GROWTH AND CLIMATE CHANGES DO FORM A HEALTHY BASIS FOR SOLID GROWTH. Rob Kooijmans Jack Richards Jack Richards Rob Kooijmans Director Director PREFACE a word from the management By fulfilling our commitments, supporting growth and innovations we ensure that our business values and professionalism are not compromised: - We strive for customer satisfaction - Integrity and responsibility in everything we do - We work in an open climate - We develop people’s talent We have been delighted to meet with quite a few of our customers and candidates personally during a series of events and exhibitions throughout the year. We have been present at all the major industrial exhibitions on all continents where we were able to meet excellent professionals eager to contribute to our company and explain our philosophy to (potential) customers. We are proud of our mentality which allows us to help our customers push their boundaries. With our problem solving approach, we strive for an optimal utilization of the knowledge of our people and the creation of professional added value to the projects our people are working on. We are thankful to our customers, all our Powerful colleagues; those who worked for our customers as well as our internal staff. Together we have continued the iPS journey by offering both personnel and industry experience to one of the most exiting industries in the world. We hope that you will take the time to relax and learn more about the past year by reading this magazine and we look forward to your future support in this special industry.
  • 4. 2 what it is all about TABLE OF CONTENTS PROJECTS IN FIGURES iPS takes part in numerous large projects. Sometimes it’s not entirely clear just how vast these projects are. For this edition of the iPS magazine, we have highlighted three of our recent projects and, next to their description, we have supplied a set of (staggering) figures, complete with infographics to to illustrate just how impressive these projects really are. While people make the world go round, iPS makes people go around the world! And we have been doing so for over 25 years. To be able to do that, you need a team of dedicated, hard working and reliable people. Meet the Powerful People that are the driving force behind iPS! To further grow into a house hold name, we utilise a number of channels. We have done interviews for TV, radio and the news papers and we were present at trade fairs. We are also further developing our visual identity. See what our people in the communication department have been up to! Without feedback, how would we improve? We value our clients’ opinions, so we asked them to provide us with feedback. It turns out that our clients are quite satisfied with us. To see exactly how satisfied they are, go to page 28. All work and no play would make iPS a dull company. So we make sure to get out of the office every now and then. • 6. 4 covering multiple media channels iPS IN THE MEDIA COMMUNICATION WHAT HAPPENED TO US IN THE LAST YEAR A lot. We participated in several international exhibitions with a stand, sent out big news using press releases and covered the media in publications, television and radio. It all started with a radio interview in the WerkenFm studio when Director Rob Kooijmans and Communication Officer Hugo Passchier were invited to talk about iPS’ work within the recruitment industry. This was followed by an interview in Dutch Review and by The Telegraaf newspaper. We continued the series with a company presentation on television, another interview in Waterkracht and an interview in Nicaragua. We are proud of those accomplishments and we would therefore like to share them with you. iPS WINS DOHA CONTRACT RELEASE 2ND EDITION iPS25 MAGAZINE iPS was broadcasted on Werken FM (radio) Business News Radio (BNR) iPS was interviewed for Dutch Review and TheTelegraaf newspaper Presentation of the new iPS overalls iPS was present at several trade fairs PRESS RELEASES Have a look at the press releases and interviews which gave us some free publicity. • 12. 10 24/7 service WORLD WIDE NETWORK OFFICES The partnership with the company ‘General Crewing’ made it possible to provide iPS with local insights within the Baltic countries. The Founder of General Crewing Mr. Gediminas Usas explains, “General Crewing is still a young company, but has overtaken many similar companies and has become one of the leading recruitment companies in Lithuania”. Bringing speed, flexibility, humanism and help for both clients and candidates alike has earned General Crewing a respectable reputation in the Baltic region. The main goal for establishing the partnership with iPS was to create a representative company who would ensure that the right human resources are supplied from the Baltic nations, including fulfilling crew management, implementing payroll systems, arranging trainings and providing other necessary services. “General Crewing fully assists in all applicable activities.” In order to expand and enhance the partnership with iPS, General Crewing has clearly defined future plans which will improve their operations and commerce. Their plans for the next year start with implementing their own transport service, which will lead to more efficient and secure transfer services for iPS and their employees within this region. The General Crewing story started in March, 2014. After researching a solution to needs of seafarers wich was missing in other crewing agencies, Gediminas decided to convert his dream into reality. “Ambitions, innovations and experienced support from iPS has created foundations which are growing every day. Today I am proud of people who helped to convert my dream into reality and I am very happy that the partnership with iPS has been established. Many thanks to them!” LITHUANIA (GENERAL CREWING) The iPS affiliated company, Full Crew S.A. (Mexico) expanded its operations in 2014 with the opening of their second office in the country. “Due to the growth over the last years, an office in Ciudad del Carmen was the next logical step”, Full Crew’s manager Guido van der Zwet explains. The majority of the offshore oil and gas business comes from the Campeche area, and the main port for crew changes and logistics go through Ciudad del Carmen. The office has space for growth as the Energy Reform in Mexico promises a growth in exploration and production, which attracts scores of new companies, as well as expansion for established companies already in the area. “The office has all sought-after amenities such as meeting rooms, a waiting room, expanded office space and a van for transport of personnel and goods.” The office is run by a local team of Mexican nationals, who are responsible for operational excellence and are the eyes and ears for Full Crew. Al Baida recently entered into a partnership with iPS – Powerful People to cover the incremental local demand of professionals in various infrastructure and engineering projects in Qatar. “The State of Qatar has been chosen to host the 2022 World Cup, creating a wide range of business opportunities. • 14. 12 developments in our finance department FINANCE DEPARTMENT FINANCE PAYROLLING £ € $ $ € FINANCE DEPARTMENT If we look at the Finance department of iPS there was a lot going on in the past years, our strong growth in turnover, the extended focus on compliance and customer needs went hand-in-hand with making efficiency improvements. Within the department we split the tasks and responsibilities into three sub- departments, named Accounting, Wages and Payroll Solutions. Those three sub- departments are built to work closely together in order to ensure the quality, compliance and timing in our work. Our team at the headquarters in Capelle aan den IJssel consists of 12 colleagues, assisted by local administrators located in the UK and in the United Arabic Emirates. Our main targets within the department are the accuracy, efficiency and quality of our work. The Wages department strives for employee satisfaction, which means that our seconded employees receive the correct salary on time and quick answers to all their payroll related questions. The Accounting department strives for as quick and accurate invoicing as possible, conducting a careful bookkeeping system and managing the collection process as fast as we can. The Payroll Solutions department is responsible for ad-hoc calculations and our internal margin control. We have succeeded in attaining stability and reducing vulnerability within our department and have managed to build a strong team capable of supporting the commercial departments. Management Reporting was further improved by the introduction of Jet Reports, a faster and accurate reporting tool. This enables us to provide our Management Team and Directors with every report they require in order to control and manage the business. During the first half of 2014 we further embarked on our paper reduction initiative, this is a mutual target for the whole department in which every member takes individual responsibility. Time-sheets and pay slips have been digitally filed. Invoice scanning is introduced and we have expanded our own electronic invoicing to 100%. Despite the increased workload, both for the Accounting and Wages departments, we have maintained quality and will improve further. We are constantly updating our internal control and compliance framework, by implementing procedures and performing internal audits. PAYROLLING We have been involved with cross-border employment since 1988 and based on this we are expanding our payrolling service to clients employing people who work all over the world. Although working with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds can be beneficial, there are always complex issues that accompany this. Staffing in general and managing a payroll is our specialty. iPS has in-depth knowledge of all tax and social security issues that might arise from working abroad. We do not only take away the worries of complex international tax and social security issues but also ensure that clients are fully compliant with all aspects of the applicable law and regulations. iPS provides a full range of services for payrolling. Obviously, we can offer digitally rendered pay slips, but we can do much more than that! With the payrolling services offered by iPS, our clients are: • Relieved of the administrative burden of payrolling; • Fully compliant with relevant and applicable law and regulations; • On top of fiscal opportunities; • Able to lower their payrolling costs significantly. It is quite significant that a company the size of iPS has such in-house expertise and knowledge to be able to make such a difference to employees and clients alike. This is possible because these vessels are equipped with an advanced fall pipe system including an active heave-compensated Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) at the bottom of the pipe. Tideway also uses dredgers and backhoe dredgers in relation to the installation of pipelines, such as the leveling of the seabed and dredging trenches. • 26. 24 PEOPLE meet the people who represent iPS on site COMPETENT EMPLOYEES My dream is to keep growing and eventually turn into a tactic buyer on a strategic level. Fabian has a passion for purchasing and prefers to work in the maritime industry. Born in Surinam, Fabian’s parents immigrated to the Netherlands with him at the age of five. After his study in Logistics Transport Management Fabian gained his first experience in the work field as a buyer for a large dredging company. “I have worked for this company for four years and I decided it was time to broaden my horizon. I started searching fo searching for another opportunity.” Luckily, iPS Consultant Femke van der Willigen was able to offer him a new and challenging position at Damen Shipyards: “Currently I’m working as a buyer at one of the main shipbuilding companies in the world. Here I can develop myself and gain more experience and knowledge of this beautiful and complex industry”. Even after a few months, Fabian is already facing a lot of responsibilities working on a international production scale: “I am responsible for the purchase of the necessary components from China and to negotiate a good price- quality ratio. I have to make sure these components will be delivered on time in order to prevent any delay and to successfully continue the process. I’m doing this for several ships now and my long term goal is to manage a significant part of our fleet.” Fabian appreciates iPS for its short lines. “Everything runs smoothly and the communication is outstanding. iPS has an understanding of the desires of it’s clients and has great knowhow of all their industries”. Fabian has high ambitions and wants to become a valuable coordinator: “My dream is to keep growing and eventually turn into a tactic buyer on a strategic level”. FABIAN WOUDEN BUYER Peter is what they might call an ‘early bloomer’ as he was already combining his academic studies with work and was living on his own by the age of sixteen. “I always had multiple and diverse jobs when I was younger. I cannot recall a time without work”, Peter says. Peter had his first experience with the HR industry when he started to work in a hospital during his Legal studies. After his graduation he kept on working there, but put an end to it after eight years: “I wanted to step out of the non- profit sector and make my career in a commercial company.” This brought him to a big cosmetics brand and later to a major Japanese company, known for its cameras. Within this company he was given the responsibility for hiring 1.600 people within three years. Peter: “It was an PETER HINSSEN HR MANAGER 2ND SUEZ CANAL PROJECT immense undertaking with my team and adding the amusing integration of the Japanese culture within the company, it were surely twelve years to remember. However, it was time for me to move forward.“ His next step: managing a group of HR managers at a global dredging company. “My task was to crew several projects. This is interesting as you can see this as a small company at site”, Peter explains. He is able to match the right people for these projects. This is shown by his achievement in Qatar where he crewed 3.000 people on short base. After an offshore project in Brazil, iPS assisted Peter with his new adventure as HR Director for the 2nd Suez Canal Project. We wish Peter the best of luck in his new role and we expect to remain in good collaboration for future crewing solutions in which iPS is a global leader.
  • 27. 25 Alex has been working for iPS since May 2014 as a Mechanic/Operator. Alex, “It has always been very important to me to keep developing myself. Before joining iPS I worked as a process operator in the food industry, where I earned my Vapro B certificate. I am currently studying for the Operator C certificate. The reason for the change in direction, “I was looking for a position with a company which could offer me better future prospects. The offshore industry due to its operational diversity proved to be the most suitable option”. Alex was assured by iPS Den Helder that he would be able to continue his training within the industry because there are a lot of similarities in the production process. What Alex also appreciated was that he very quickly became a full member of the crew and that his working schedule is 14 days on/14 days off. “You get used to this pretty quickly, especially the part that you are at home!” Bernardino, who comes from Cape Verde, worked on various ships around South America before finally settling in the Netherlands with his family. He has been employed by iPS as a cook for the last seventeen years and has worked on dredging vessels for some of the largest companies. Bernandino’s goal is to make people happy by cooking for them. “I like to cook for people on the bigger ships, partly for the company but also because it is very impressive to see lots of people working on large projects all over the world. It is literally ‘all over the world’ as his work has brought him to almost every corner, “I have worked in Papua New Guinea, Nigeria, Guatemala, Dubai, Italy, England, Qatar and Russia amongst others. While I am working abroad, and if time allows, I like to explore the surroundings”. The two weeks on/two weeks off schedule means ALEX FRÖLICH MECHANIC/OPERATOR BERNARDINO DA LUZ that he is never too long away from home and the family. He is, however, always available to make people happy with his cooking anywhere in the world. It has always been very important to me to keep developing myself. COOK Since Ron moved to Argentina he has had difficulty finding work which met his preferred rotation schedule. This came to an end when he joined iPS in 2005: “iPS has given me the opportunity to work at my own pace and comfort.” He is loyal to iPS as he likes the friendly climate and the contact with iPS consultants; “in particular Joke Schroeten”, Ron says. He is also pleased with his salary: “I receive a standard salary regardless of the project”. Ron enjoys ‘hopping’ from one company to another, this means working on various types of different vessels. He has more experience however with hopper dredgers and likes this ship type the most. Especially on short, small projects: “I like to work on smaller vessels. It brings me to tiny bays or harbours and it allows me to work more with the resources of the vessel”. Ron continues; “In my opinion, the ambiance is also friendlier on a smaller ship. A very important element as it is all about working closely together.” As a Captain he feels responsible for the team on board. He tries to stimulate teamwork; “only with a team and good team spirit can you make sure the job gets done properly”. This keeps him highly motivated. Working for iPS has brought him all around the world: “I have worked in Russia, Siberia, the Caribbean, South America, West- and South Africa and many more countries, as well as various places in Europe. I prefer to work in the Caribbean and South America region as this is relatively close to my home. I have to say that iPS does take this into account”. RON DE VRIESCAPTAIN While I am working abroad, and if time allows, I like to explore the surroundings. iPS has given me the opportunity to work at my own pace and comfort.

I really liked the work and working with international colleagues.” Mike left Hallandsås in 2013 and went to Iran for a new challenge as a PLC and Electrical Supervisor. “Iran was definitely a challenge, both culturally and technically.” After this project was finished he went to China and then on to Sydney in order to MIKE RILEY iPS is a very well organised company, has the power to listen and is able to solve problems right away. move together with the company. “I like it here in Australia, but I hope my next project will be closer to home”. • 40. 38 Festivities ONE COMPANY teambuilding is important to us Twice a year, iPS invites the managers of our international offices to the Netherlands for a mid year update. This year the 2014 mid-year evaluation took place in the summer. On day one the iPS directors kicked off the international week by presenting the iPS goals for the coming half year. This presentation was followed, the next day, by the international goals and accomplishments, presented by our managers. To break the week, we implemented some activities on day three. It was time for everybody to show who the biggest daredevils were by joining the ‘RIB-experience’. This is an attraction where very fast boats are racing across Rotterdam harbour. After this wet happening it was time for a drink. And what good timing, as the Dutch were winning their first FIFA World Cup match that night! All dressed in orange we enjoyed a drink, an exciting match and informal quality time with colleagues. The following day was marked down for our managers to gain extra insights by paying a visit to Jack-Up Barge, one of our valued clients. The last day of this international week was completely focused on our new colleagues during our half-yearly ‘Rookie Dinner’. A dinner for our new colleagues which gave them a chance to get to know the people behind iPS and get familiar with the workflow. In short, an important week and we are happy that there will be a winter edition as well. This edition will also be kicked off by presentations and targets. There will be a “stamppot festival” organised. Since ‘stamppot’ is a typical dish of the Dutch cuisine, it will be a nice surprise for our international colleagues. On Wednesday, the managers will spend their next day in the theater which will be followed by ‘glow in the dark’ midget golf. Finally the week will end, as always, with our Christmas party. iPS INTERNATIONAL WEEK

It all started in November 2012 when our Maritime department wanted to organise more informal events with iPS’ colleagues. They initiated an evening with dinner and bowling. It was such a success that it has grown into an annual event including a challenge cup. This year we had six teams participating, and again, it turned out to be a successful evening.

The museum covers dredging from the very beginning up to the present time. It is known for their pictures, models, illustrations and original dredging machinery in- and outside the museum, like a giant cutterhead.

EDITORS NOTE 44 Someone once told me that change is the only constant in life. This covers our whole company, but it is certainly true for the communication team which has spent the better part of a year working tirelessly to evolve our corporate identity for the better. You saw evidence in our magazine, when we redesigned our flyers and calendar. This time it was the magazine’s turn with our 2015 issue. We hope you like what you see. This glossy was established with the support of iPS’ staff, suppliers, candidates and clients. The tasks of copywriting and bringing together all the bits and pieces were assigned to me, Hugo Passchier. My goal is to introduce iPS to people who have not heard of us yet as well as improve our presence for those who have. The motivation behind it: show the world who we are, what we do and aim to be as transparent as possible. Like last year, this magazine is a result of good cooperation between all the colleagues of iPS, Tommy Kleyn (Blueboost), Ron Nobel (Efficiënta Offset drukkerij) and Michel Warta (iPS). From the beginning of this year, Michel has transferred the role as leading editor to me and now mainly supports the collaboration between all parties. Coming back to our evolvement one of the most involving changes are yet to come. We will show that to you in our next issue. See you then!
  • 47. Blueboost is a Rotterdam-based design agency that specialises in graphic design, photography and illustration. Driving force behind Blueboost is Tommy Kleyn (1977). Kleyn has nearly twenty years of experience in formentioned fields. Shell, Honda, Hyundai, Mazda, Deloitte, the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment, Rabobank and, of course, iPS are amongst the clients Tommy worked and still works for. Besides commissioned work, Blueboost reserves part of their time to work on non-commissioned, self-inspired projects. This to keep our minds limber, explore creativity and cultivate fresh ideas. These days communication -in many cases- consists of a combination of graphic design, photography and illustration. Blueboost masters all of these disciplines, a quality that proves to be quite convenient for our clients. And: we’re a small operation. This keeps costs at a minimum and effiency at a max. If you would like to see more of our work or get in contact with us, please visit our website at blueboost.nl or send us an e-mail at mail@blueboost.nl Blueboost made this infographic for the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment. It consists of 15 individual situations, spread out over 5 ‘steps’ in an improvement ladder.
