- 3. What Is covid 19 • SARS-CoV-2 is a new virus. • The first cases were identified in people with pneumonia in Wuhan, China, in late December 2019. • Easily spreads from person to person • Causes mainly URTI/pneumonia , and also can cause “thrombo-embolic disease”and other manisfestations
- 4. How does it spread • It spreads through droplets created when we talk, cough, sing, sneeze or eat • These droplets enter the nose, eyes or mouth or when the infected droplets are inhaled. • In indoor spaces with inadequate ventilation, COVID-19 has spread to people who were more than 2 metres or 6 feet away. • Touching contaminated objects puts the droplets onto your hands. If you touch your face the droplets can enter your nose / eyes / mouth. • Infected people with minimal or no symptoms can also spread COVID-19.
- 5. Symptoms of COVID 19 • 50-60% are asymptomatic • Fever • Cough • Sore throat • Fatigue • Shortness of breath • Symptoms start about one day after exposure, but can be as long as 14 days. Most people develop symptoms within 5-6 days. *Highly Infectious 1-2 days before the symptoms onset and 1-2 days after
- 7. Diagnosis and Treatment of COVID 19 • RTPCR is the gold standard diagnosis – usually done via NP swab( other metods are being studied PLUS • Clinical symptoms/ Epidemiology risk factors • Treatment mainly supportive • Pneumonia treatment should be in hospitals Incubation period=14days

Who is at risk of getting COVID • Those who have had contact with positive case • Those who have had history of travel last 14 days to area with high covid transmission • Those who live in crowded living condition • Those who are attending regular healthcare : like dialysis/ hospital daycare services • Frontliners • Recently admitted to hospital for medical problems Sesiapa pun boleh dapat covid
- 9. Who is likely to get severe disease • Older age group >50 years old • People with underlying medical condition like diabetes, hypertension • People who have ESRF
- 10. Consideration for schools • Promoting behaviors that reduce COVID-19’s spread • Maintaining healthy environments • Maintaining healthy operations • Preparing for when someone gets sick
- 13. • A trio of new studies demonstrate low risk of COVID-19 infection and spread in schools, including limited in-school COVID-19 transmission in North Carolina • Mainly community acquired infection • This prospective study shows that transmission of SARS-CoV-2 from children under 14 years of age was minimal in primary schools in Oslo and Viken, the two Norwegian counties • Our cohort study demonstrated that enforcing SARS-CoV-2 mitigation policies such as masking, physical distancing, and hand hygiene, resulted in minimal clusters of SARS-CoV-2 infection and low rates of secondary transmission in schools, and did not cause a larger community infection burden,"
