Ilona Orthwein studied social sciences and economics (M.A. FU Berlin, 1990). After working twelve years in international banking, she founded 2003 her own consulting firm "Orthwein Unternehmens- und Organisationsberatung. Medium-sized companies, freelancers and social organizations are her clients. Subjects are sustainable business concepts, financial planning, marketing, and organizational development.
In June 2005 her web platform for female entrepreneurs, Unternehmerinnen.org, was launched. Since then, Ilona Orthwein leads the project, which was awarded in 2012 by the Initiative Mittelstand IT Innovation Award in the category "Web 2.0 and Social Media".
