The coastal belt of Uttara Kannada also has one of Karnataka’s largest port Karwar with a capacity of 75000 million tonne liquid storage and 30000 MT warehousing. Government of Karnataka is keen on developing 6 berths under PPP here.
Uttara Kannada is situated in the western coast of Karnataka. It is spread across 10,277 sq. kms comprising of 11 talukas -Ankola, Bhatkal, Haliyal, Honnavar, Karwar, Kumta, Mundgod, Siddapur, Sirsi, Supa and Yallapur. The district has a 77% literacy rate.

Banvasi: Banvasi is a place of great antiquity, the main places of interest are the Madhukeshvara temple, the
ruins of a Buddhist stupa and the Veerabhadra temple
Guddalli Peak: is located 1800 feet above sea level and gives a panoramic view of the Karwar and the sea
Katyayani Temple: situated 25 kms from Karwar, the unique feature of this temple is that the shrine of the
goddess is in the shape of a ship
Yana, known as natures wonder, having 2 gigantic rock formations encircled for thickly wooded forest, is
famous as trekkers paradise.
Idgunji Ganesh Temple: is an ancient temple at Idgunji in this place of hoary past.
Nagashrunga Parvata, Subrahmanya Guhe (cave), Naga Thirtha and Netrani Islands are
attractive tourist spots
