This is Sarah. She suffers depression and anxiety. She’s attending mental health services, but only has a 54% chance of measurable recovery. Image yourself feeling de-motivated, and finding life very difficult. You go for professional help and in your first session, you could be handed nothing, or given 30 page workbook to complete before your next visit. If you’re Sarah, there’s an 80% chance you’ll forget what you’re told in the session. Sarah feels overwhelmed. Between sessions, she feels unwell, and struggles to carry out activities from the workbook. She is unable or unsure who to contact for help. Her next appointment is not for 2 more weeks. Sarah starts to withdraw from services.
Its not surprising then, that 20% of people miss appointments (that’s double the general medical non attendance). 47% will not adhere to treatment (e.g. medication/activity) and about 50% will drop out of care altogether.
We know that technology can help address this problem. More than 75% of adults use a smartphone. More than half check their phones within 5 minutes of waking. We’re taking that trend and applying it in mental health.
HealthBridge Technology has developed CliniBridge, a behavioural analytical platform for mental health service providers and clinicians, with a mobile platform for patients and carers. (In simple terms, it’s a clinical dashboard connected to a mobile app.)
CliniBridge uses smart technology combining clinical monitoring and management with patient self-monitoring and self-management.
It’s user friendly software that can be easily integrated into the daily lives of a person with mental health issues. We translate paper-based treatment, include support tools/Care-Plan, and present them in an easy to use format.
Currently beginning a pilot with Sussex Community NHS Trust, we are now evaluating CliniBridge in a live setting.
We’re also shortlisted for NHS HEALTH ENTERPRISE EAST INNOVATION AWARDS in partnership with the Oliver Zangwill Centre for Neuropsychological Rehabilitation in Cambridge.
CliniBridge delivers four main benefits:
1. Reduces relapse and readmissions – saving cost for the service provider by better use of scarce resources; and supports them to achieve key funding-related targets (that’s very important for the business case).
2. Enables patients to self-manage their illness and reduce the potential for more acute symptoms with additional associated costs.
3. Supports improved therapy recommendations and interventions as Clinicians have access to more accurate and timely patient data.
4. The use of “Silent Data” in phase 2 development combined with patient self-monitoring will detect possible deterioration between visits, and provide an alert system to the Clinician to facilitate early intervention. This means patients get the right intervention at the right time through automated alerts or direct contact.
