SUMMARY
• The continued influence of misinformation makes it impossible to erase the effect of
MI at all (returns to the baseline); what we can do is to increase the effectiveness of
the debunking.
• Creating and disseminating bias, propaganda, and misinformation aimed at
influencing public opinion is a big business.
• Social media has become the cheapest way to accomplish the business, helped by
the advancement and the free availability of technology (e.g. encryption in
messaging, image and video manipulation, deepfake, AI in chatbot, etc).
• Researchers keep working on ways to detect misinformation created using advanced
technologies.
• Indiana University is one of the leading institution in observing social media for
misinformation.
• Drone Emprit solution uses the services provided by the Indiana University to detect
bot-like accounts. Drone Emprit Academic is a free service for academic and hoax
buster to analyze and detect computational propaganda and cyber troop in Twitter.
