A nice market in the current economical
context !-Security ought to be the SG’s architecture foundation …not an add-on
SG security market has been estimated at 7.3 b$ for the 8 coming years (source
Zprime)
-MDM have been developed historically for and sometimes by the meter industry …
they are totally inadequate for smart grids
Big Data and analytics for SG has been estimated at 20.6 b$ (source GTM Research)
-Access to the meter is usually set up as a « bidirectional channel » to meters…
whereas multidirectional M2M solution ought to be envisaged
Utility market is estimated to multiply by 4 in 5 years with 500 millions
connected devices in 2017 (source M2M evolution conference)
-Management of the network assets is not going to be simple particularly as multiple
technologies and generations will coexist
Network assets management can be estimated at 20% of the mobile market by
2017

Behind integration mutiple routes for ITC’s
-Outsourcing, shared services and cloud opportunities as :
-Some countries will enforce smart metering to be set up via (UK) or with (Italy)
retailers
-Some Telco operators will try to penetrate that segment
-Municipalities and distributors to develop data or application stores
-Virtual plants will required some aggregation function to be shared
-Management of smart districts will require multi energy neutral vision
-Local and national authorities need better statistics to drive CO2 emission down
-Some utilities might try to develop or enhanced there own Telco network … and
launch secured M2M telecommunication infrastructure to other businesses
-Bigdata management might required the cloud to store non confidential data
