Founded in 1481 during reign of Sikandar Lodhi
City originated in Fort- located in village Mir
Hota on bank of river Satluj as military base of
Lodhi army.
Base grew in size --later on known as Lodhi-ana
(town of Lodhis)
City taken over by Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
In 1843 city became revenue district of British.
Local civil administration started 1853-54 when
