Beginner’s guide to learn lighting techniques
1.
2. Minimum tools to begin with:
Camera and lens
Are you new to studio photography or planning to make a career
in the profession? There is a minimum set of instruments that
you will require to begin with. The first instrument that a
photographer needs is a sophisticated camera and lens of varies
focal length (mostly wide and ultra wide angle lens).
3. Lighting Devices
Softbox, beauty dish, umbrella, flash head and reflector are some
of the instruments that must be present in a studio. Buy the above
mentioned devices in pair. Besides, you will need backgrounds
and half a dozen stands.
4. Creating lighting
Basically, there are three types of lights used in a studio set up- key, fill and back.
Different lighting equipments are used as key, fill and back lights.
5. Key
Key light(s) is the primary set of lights
for illuminating a subject. Beauty dish
and softbox are used for lightening a
model.
6. Fill
Fill light is used to tone down the hard edges created by the key
lighting tools. An umbrella is good for the purpose.
7. Back
•Back light separates subject from background. Dimmer light is
preferred for isolating subject and background.
•If you are short on lighting instruments, you can also try
reflectors.
