- 2. "Fashion changes, but style endures.” ~ Coco Chanel This age old saying has a lot of worth and can be very easily applied to Indian fashion. Saris, Salwar Kameez, Kurta Pyjama, Ghagra Choli – these attires had been there before and are very much relevant in modern times as well. In fact if you are a person who is an ardent follower of fashion you will notice that most fashion trends have in some way or the other copied the designs and styling of the bygone eras. Many of the clothing that is designed by the modern fashion designers of today are reminiscent of the splendour of India's Maharajas and Ranis. Not only designers from India, even their counterparts in the West, are often inspired by the ethnic designs of India's glorious past. Naturally, Jamboree, a fashion event in Singapore that was solely dedicated to Indian fashion was very well accepted not only by the Indian expat community there but also the local Singaporeans. In fact, when Jamboree was organised last year, it gave many young and upcoming designers from India a chance to showcase their designs in South East Asia. And, people were surprised at the overwhelming demand for Indian clothes, jewellery and accessories at this fashion exhibition in Singapore. Last year Jamboree had two editions – one in April and the other in September. And both the editions showed how immensely popular Indian fashion is in the West. For the Indian diaspora at the Little Red Dot, the ethnic designs that were showcased at Jamboree were a reminiscent of their cultural roots and glorious past. Earlier they had to travel all the way to India to buy traditional jewellery, accessories and certainly garments of their choice. Now, they were spared of the trouble and had plenty of options to choose from as they shopped from Jamboree.
- 3. And, for the local Singaporeans, this fashion extravaganza gave them a chance to get introduced to what ethnic Indian fashion is all about. This fashion event was an inspiration for many designers to come up with what is called today as Indo Western garments. In fact, Indo Western trends are chic, stylish and very convenient when it comes to daily wear. The jewellery that was exhibited at Jamboree had a great demand as well. Crafted in intricate designs, the jewellery and accessories that were showcased at Jamboree were exclusive, beautiful and dazzling for sure. No wonder, last year Jamboree had a footfall of more than 5,000 people. And, apart from the fact that the prices were very reasonable at Jamboree, the reception of the organizers, and their warmth were the reasons that drew the visitors to this fashion event in Singapore from India. There was one more reason that made Jamboree stand out from the other fashion events. It allowed the visitors the chance to interact with the fashion designers themselves and maybe find out stories of inspiration behind each and every creation. This year Jamboree will be organized in April at Holiday Inn Orchard. The dates are April 18th and 19th. Make sure you are there to catch all the action.
