British Fencing Coaching Philosophy
The course programme will encourage coaches to
examine ‘why’ they coach and what influence that
has on their own behaviours and aspirations, whilst
promoting the ‘how’ and ‘what’ to coach concepts
Coaching is a privilege
Finding your next improvement in coaching is a
constant need, respectful to your athlete, honest with
yourself; in the pursuit of achieving excellence

More practice in coaching rather than being
given information

1. Know self, be aware if their areas of knowledge and of
development
2. Understand the importance of a coaching philosophy and will
have a draft philosophy
3. Undertake stage 1 of the action pan to support their
development as a coach – Training Needs Analysis

•Register information to access – on line training portal, allocated tutors and practical course information, self profile
•It is recommended that all delegates have fencing or coaching experience
•18 Years of age – Specific interventions are run for the 16-17 age range

•On line course covering 6 modules (Role of the coach, The good coach, Prepare to coach, The coach in action, Effective Fencing Coach,
Action plan)
•Learning sets: Understanding self, Goal setting based self profiling, IDEAS/APES Plan-Do- Review, Coaching process skills, Fencing techniques
•Time framed to link to day courses - British Fencing Just Hit course
BF Just Hit
Workshop
•Day course covering 6 modules (Accreditation, Modeling best practice, Delivery in practice, Competition in practice,,
Reflections and action planning)
• Additional Coaching Environments, participant need led modules can be added
Confirm

standards
•Evidence of current Safeguarding and protecting children certification
•Evidence of current 1st Aid training
•Evidence of a current Disclosure and Barring Certificate
Theory Paper
•Successful Completion of the British Fencing Theory paper
•Pre test reading and practice tests available on line
Final
submission
•Submissions of session plans and an agreed SMART Action plan to support continued development via on line portal
•Final accreditation confirmation via allocated tutor, with certification
• Either Trained or certified status on BF Coach database
