2. He was born in Auchaffenburg, Bavaria on May 6 in 1880.
In 1901, he began studying architecture at the Königliche
Technische Hochschule (royal technical university) of Dresden.
In 1903 Kirchner was in Munchen to study painting at the School of
Fine Arts.
Kirchner’s family had originally fostered his artistic talents through
drawing and watercolour lessons at home, they did not support his
wish to become an artist.
Kirchner travelled to Davos for the first time in 1917, but suddenly
returns to Berlin and goes back again to the Rüesch lodge on the
Stafelalp with a nurse
In 1933, his work was branded as "degenerate" by the Nazis and in
1937 over 600 of his works were sold or destroyed. In 1938 he
committed suicide by gunshot.
3. He was one of the founders of the artists
group Die Brücke or "The Bridge", a key group
leading to the foundation of Expressionism in 20th-
century art.
The group was one of the seminal ones, which in
due course had a major impact on the evolution of
modern art in the 20th century and created the
style of Expressionism.
4. Kirchner sought to derive natural forms
radical simplifications, and sometimes
brutal and its sharp lines and clashing
colors create a sense of fury
