Vanaspati Manufacturing Company, followed by
Lever Brothers India Limited in1933
and United Traders Limited in 1935
These three companies merged to form Hindustan
Unilever Limited in November1956
In 1958 the company started its Research Unit at
Mumbai Factory namely The Hindustan Unilever
Research Centre (HLRC).

19. PROFIT & LOSS BY THE COMPANY
⢠The companyâs net profit rose to Rs. 687 crore for
the year ended 31 March from Rs. 569 crore a year
earlier.
⢠Hindustan Unilever Ltd, beat market forecasts with
a 21% jump.
⢠Domestic consumer product sales, grew 20% to Rs.
5,494.6 crore from Rs. 4,565.3 crore.
⢠The foods and beverage business crossed the Rs. 1,000
crore revenue mark for the first time during the quarter.
20. Revenue from selling soaps and detergents, rose to Rs. 2,830
crore, largely because of price increases. Personal care product
sales were driven completely by volume growth at 17% to Rs.
1,710 crore.
Price increases and savings through cost-efficiency
programmes saw HULâs operating profit margin (OPM), a
measure of operating efficiency, widen to 12.86% from
11.6%.
For the full year, HUL grew ahead of the marketâs 14% sales
expansion, with a 17.5% rise in the domestic consumer
business.
