How To Use Visualization To Change Limiting Beliefs
Everything we do, or choose not to do, is based on what we believe internally and
subconsciously. That is why positive thought is so important.
If you find yourself in a rough patch that you just can't seem to get out of, it is most
likely due to your individual set of limiting beliefs. Everyone has dreams of being
successful, achieving goals, and living a better life in general.
Even if you make action towards these accomplishments, your limiting thoughts in your
subconscious will keep you from moving forward.
Whenever we place limits on ourselves, they will get in the way of our success. How are
we expected to get a better job if we places limits on our talents and abilities?
If you have the attitude that you're not good enough for a certain job position, you will
just settle for lower-paying and unsatisfying jobs until you remove that limiting belief
and allow yourself to grow.
Visualization is a helpful tool to open ourselves up to receive what we deserve.
Visualization is the process of replacing limiting beliefs with images of yourself
accomplishing your goals.
For example, if you think you aren't good enough for a job position, visualize yourself
working that job.
Really pay attention to the details of this visualization: how you feel, how other see you,
how you are treated, what you eat for lunch, etc. The more specific your visualization is,
the stronger the effect will be on your subconscious.
If you are afraid of being in another unhealthy relationship, visualize yourself in the
opposite situation. Use visualization to create a future of a loving, healthy relationship.
Think of what you will do together, how you'll feel, how the other person will make you
feel better when you've had a bad day.
Make these visualizations as positive and as detailed as possible so that it feels like you
are actually experiencing this situation rather than just seeing it in your mind.
After consistently practicing this visualization technique, your limiting beliefs will
disappear, and you'll be free to experience what you yearn for.
It takes time and effort to make these visualizations come true. The more you visualize
Know The Inner-man Page 5 of 10
yourself in these situations, the more your subconscious will open up to these dreams.
You will get rid of limiting beliefs that keep you in the same spot.

Can Taking Breaks Make You More Productive ?
Americans like to work. We take pride in our work ethic. Boy, can we work. Firmly
plopped at the desk, we let hours and hours go by and, tirelessly, we’re still at it! It’s a
great attitude.
Too bad we aren’t getting much done. And we’re still not listening to science about it.
A decade and a half ago, ergonomics researchers at Cornell University discovered that
using a computer program that prompted workers to take short breaks to stretch and
mind their sitting posture made workers more productive.
The workers who were given an order to rest on occasion made 13 percent fewer errors
than workers who remained hunched over and grinding away.
And in a 2009 article in Businessweek, John Carney and Vincent Fernando did the math
and decided that the French are, for all their famous leisure time, the most productive
people in the world.
The secret? They work fresher, not harder.
Carney and Fernando claim that the French rank at 18th in the world for GDP—in 2009 it
was over $35,000—but take 16 percent more vacation time than the average world
citizen.
The extra vacation time appears to help them get more work done total than just sitting
there marking time at the desk. After a nice rest, they hit the work with greater zeal.
So while you may feel envy when you see an entire country taking August off, you can
feel even more envy when they go back to their desks: their extra leisure has turned
them into super-producers.
Meanwhile, the work week in America just gets longer. Over 85 percent of American
males work more than 40 hours per week, and the ladies get it almost as bad, with 66.5
percent putting in over a “full” week.
Meanwhile, our productivity per hour continues to plummet. We are too tired to
concentrate, but we keep trying long past the point of exhaustion.
So, short of picking up and moving to another continent, how can you keep your brain
fresh and protect your productivity?
Here are a few tips:
Know The Inner-man Page 7 of 10
Stand up as often as you can. Take any excuse you can to get out of your seat for a few
seconds. If you need to think about a problem, don’t stew—pace!
It’s good for your mind and your body to separate your bottom from your chair once in a
while.
Pickyour battles. We know your company expects a lot of you, and they’re counting on
you. But you can’t do everything. When you need to delegate, let people know you need
help.
It may seem like everyone is judging your performance at every moment, but sometimes
you have to quiet your inner perfectionist long enough to let yourself perform!
Remember: Stretching and taking a “breather” doesn’t take as long as it seems to do.
Have you ever felt that a red light was hours long, only to look at your phone and realize
it was only 90 seconds?
A very short stretch gives productivity and happiness benefits that will more than repay
you for the time.
Think about something pleasant for a few seconds. Come on, of course you’re very busy,
but how long can this take?
Especially when things get stressful at work, going to your happy place will only cost you
a bit of time, but it may clear your mind.
Volunteer to run errands. Does everyone groan when the coffee machine runs out of
filters? “Gofer” chores may not seem glamorous, but they will get you a break and make
you a hero! Win-win.
Take your vacation time. You need to recharge in order to be effective. Maybe you’re
getting subtle—or not-so-subtle—signals from the office culture that it’s not really OK to
take the time off that you were promised when you were hired.
This may be a sign that it’s time to start rewriting your resume. A company culture that
does not understand the productivity benefits of time off is not a company culture that is
going to be effective in the long run.
Get on a more efficient ship!

Three Weird Advantages Of Depression
Being depressed is depressing, obviously. You feel hopeless, lifeless, pleasureless—like
life is just one long bread and wilted lettuce sandwich.
But the following three weird things about depression, believe it or not, form (no matter
how sick you are of hearing these silly words) a sort of silver lining to all those clouds
hanging over your head.
Depresion makes you more accurate.
Psychologists at Temple University have discovered a bizarre phenomenon they call
“depressive realism.”
Lauren B. Alloy and Lynn Yvonne Abramson gave a group ofdepressed people and a
control group of non-depressed people a button to press and implied that the button
turned a light on or off.
The depressed people were better able to figure out whether or not they were actually in
control of the light than the non-depressed people. The depressive group also did better
on self-evaluating at other tasks and in social situations.
The non-depressed control group were “suffering” from what psychologists call
“optimistic bias”: the opposite of depressive realism.
Optimistic bias may be an effective way of protecting one’s self-esteem and ego—but
depressive realism means always getting to say “I told you so!”
It can make you more compassionate.
This is the tricky one—it isn’t an automatic advantage. You have to work at it. Depression
can get you bogged down in your own head, that’s for sure.
You’re absorbed by your own pain. You only have time for your own needs. You’ve got
enough on your plate. On the other hand… if you can keep your wits about you: You
understand pain!
You’re not going to make snap judgments about other people. You aren’t about to look at
that “crazy-looking guy” and just dismiss him because he looks glum or is muttering to
himself.
Once you’ve been there, you know. If you work at it, your depression can make you a
better, more understanding, more decent person.
Know The Inner-man Page 9 of 10
It just takes effort. And you know all about effort, because…It makes you stronger.
We all know the stereotype that people have in their heads about depressive people: It
comes out every time someone tells you that you just need to do some yoga or quit
feeling sorry for yourself or, you know, just snap out of it!
If only you weren’t so weak, you’d already be back on your feet. But you—and any
psychological or psychiatric professional—know how silly this is.
Study after study shows that depression is a physical disease, because the brain is a
physical organ. The “pleasure chemicals” in your brain simply aren’t working right.
The rewards that a normal person’s brain gets from everyday stuff like petting a dog
aren’t happening for you. You are required to get through life with lead shackles on your
legs, pretty much.
The wonderful thing about this is that when your depression does lift, you’re Superman.
Going through a period of depression is much like the way competitive swimmers will
wear two bathing suits layered over each other when they’re training.
Why on Earth would they do this? Because those two suits create a lot of drag in the
water. They get stronger swimming against the drag.
When it’s time for the race and the extra suit comes off, they’re suddenly sleek, free, and
stronger than anyone else in the pool. They’re champions because they’ve been
challenged.
And when your medication, therapy, and luck come together, that’s you.

The depressive group also did better on self-evaluating at other tasks and in social situations. The non-depressed control group were “suffering” from what psychologists call “optimistic bias”: the opposite of depressive realism. Optimistic bias may be an effective way of protecting one’s self-esteem and ego—but depressive realism means always getting to say “I told you so!” It can make you more compassionate. This is the tricky one—it isn’t an automatic advantage. You have to work at it. Depression can get you bogged down in your own head, that’s for sure. You’re absorbed by your own pain. You only have time for your own needs. You’ve got enough on your plate. On the other hand… if you can keep your wits about you: You understand pain! You’re not going to make snap judgments about other people. You aren’t about to look at that “crazy-looking guy” and just dismiss him because he looks glum or is muttering to himself. Once you’ve been there, you know. If you work at it, your depression can make you a better, more understanding, more decent person. Know The Inner-man Page 9 of 10
  • 11. It just takes effort. And you know all about effort, because…It makes you stronger. We all know the stereotype that people have in their heads about depressive people: It comes out every time someone tells you that you just need to do some yoga or quit feeling sorry for yourself or, you know, just snap out of it! If only you weren’t so weak, you’d already be back on your feet. But you—and any psychological or psychiatric professional—know how silly this is. Study after study shows that depression is a physical disease, because the brain is a physical organ. The “pleasure chemicals” in your brain simply aren’t working right. The rewards that a normal person’s brain gets from everyday stuff like petting a dog aren’t happening for you. You are required to get through life with lead shackles on your legs, pretty much. The wonderful thing about this is that when your depression does lift, you’re Superman. Going through a period of depression is much like the way competitive swimmers will wear two bathing suits layered over each other when they’re training. Why on Earth would they do this? Because those two suits create a lot of drag in the water. They get stronger swimming against the drag. When it’s time for the race and the extra suit comes off, they’re suddenly sleek, free, and stronger than anyone else in the pool. They’re champions because they’ve been challenged. And when your medication, therapy, and luck come together, that’s you. Stop Existing, Start Living Know The Inner-man Page 10 of 10
