Apparel pitch for Championship Martial Arts — I wanted to thoughtfully think about creating a REAL opportunity for Championship Martial Arts. One that not only establishes CMA as a preeminent brand but a lifestyle for its students. Apparel and creative like this gets noticed creates conversation and give students a way to speak about the brand.

4. I’ve created countless logos, uniforms, apparel and clothing for past clients.
From time to time I get clients such as Harley-Davidson Motorcycle company that have asked I create a “Lifestyle.”
I took the same approach. Martial arts isn’t a t-shirt, it’s not a brand, it’s a mindset, a maturation and it’s something that you live and
breath much like the Bushido code or practice of a religion. Knowing this I decided a few things:
• I would use a process called “die-sub cut and sew” (this will be explained in further detail momentarily
• I would draw from designs, and symbols of many marital arts, Japanese, Korean and Chinese but not apply a bias
• I would draw from the core values and sayings of CMA such as “Building Champions for Life”
• I would draw from inspirations animals, colors, fonts and quotes that resonated the CMA brand for me
• I would follow the current logo as a base, but not use it exclusively
• I would design with the intent that the apparel would be something that I would want to buy (either for myself or my family), wear as
an external public representation and emulate the brand in a positive and confident manner
My Approach.
5. There’s a bigger difference between creating a lifestyle brand and creating apparel designs. Therefore in MOST of
the following designs I took the into consideration different demographics; male/female/unisex applications as well
reasons for wearing the apparel. I broke them down into these categories:
• CMA Brand representation: Adult: Male / Female (in some cases unisex)
• CMA Brand representation: Tween/Teen: Male / Female (in some cases unisex)
• CMA Team Intensity: Unisex
• CMA Team Intensity: Parent/Supporter (not shown)
• CMA Kids: Lil’ Dragons: Male / Female
• CMA Sensei: Ones-offs per instructor
• Last, point of note would be to create designs that can be flexible enough to be utilitarian in shirt type: t-shirt,
tank and long-sleeve hoodie
Design Considerations.
6. Lastly, all the designs outlined within this presentation are designed for a dye sublimation cut n’ sew style. This process creates the
effect of the design being all encompassing on the apparel. There are a number of reasons that I selected this process:
• This apparel is for wearing outside of the school — it should make a statement
• Each piece made by hand therefore if you want someone’s name on the back, or something specific it’s the same unit cost
• The designs and fabric look and feel of high quality and therefore can withstand a higher price-point
• The apparel should be a unique as the training and values of CMA

30. Jerry Dior designed MLB’s red, white and blue iconic
logo in 1986 and since the time every conceivable
sports has had their own version of it. CMA should
own that their own version of it. This also can act as
a brand-within-a-brand on future promotional and
marketing materials.
