My Leadership
Portfolio
“ Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today.” – James Dean
To me, LEADERSHIP is the ability to embrace
your own identity and use that uniqueness
to be a role model for others. Leading is
accomplished by serving, not by self-promoting.

Statement of Leadership 20
Introduction
Hello!
My name is Justin Hauser and I welcome you to my leadership portfolio. In this portfolio, I will showcase
for you, myself as an individual and the unique qualities I possess as a leader. Not only will you gain
insight into how I discovered my leadership potential, but also how I continue to grow and develop my
leadership skills each and every day.
The journey to becoming a leader is not an easy one. It takes committing yourself to a whole new
lifestyle, which constantly demands that you show courage and remain motivated. I personally have
learned that becoming a leader means being the best that you can be at all times. It means that you
should always dream BIG and follow your heart. It means trusting the people you lead, always doing the
right thing, and being a servant to others.
College is the time of our lives where we must take risks as we constantly face the unknown. But it
provides us with a unique opportunity to challenge ourselves by stepping up as leaders and succeeding
in the face of adversity. I know that with this direction, I will use my leadership skills to not only enrich
my life, but also improve the lives of everyone I surround myself with.
I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to share my life with you through this portfolio. I thank
you for taking the time to read through it and I hope you enjoy!
Sincerely,
Justin Hauser

perceived weakness into a strength.”

“The best use of life is love. The
best expression of love is time.
The best time to love is now.”
~Rick Warren
Rick Warren is the greatest leader that I have ever had the pleasure to meet. He embodies the leadership qualities
that I strive to possess and his dedication to service leadership is something that I am envious of. Rick Warren is an
evangelical pastor who set out at a young age to establish a small church and now serves as a pastor for Saddleback
Church, one of the most influential churches in America with over 20,000 people attending his weekend services. He
is the author of The Purpose Driven Life, the bestselling hardback in American history, with over 30 million copies
sold worldwide. Not only has he contributed his time and money to his community, but Rick is also passionate about
global missions. As a response to the massive amount of poverty, disease, spiritual emptiness, self-serving
leadership, and illiteracy our world experiences today, Rick initiated The Peace Plan – a massive effort to mobilize
Christians around the world into an outreach effort to attack these five global issues of today. A man so full of service
and integrity, Rick inspires me to be a selfless leader who will make a real difference in the world.

AQ Score
What is an AQ?
AQ (Adversity Quotient) reflects how well a person can withstand adversity and his or her ability to
overcome it. Dr. Paul G. Stoltz is the pioneer of the study of AQ which was developed in 1997. The
concept of an AQ score is that it accurately forecasts whether we are more or less likely to exceed the
expectations that life throws at us while also predicting how we behave in difficult situations. AQ can
predict resilience and persistence of a person and can be used to enhance the effectiveness of teams,
relationships, families, communities, cultures, societies and organizations.
The CORE of AQ: Control (influence)
Ownership
Reach
Endurance
My AQ Score: 146 out of 200
I fall into the average AQ range in respect to worldwide studies performed by Dr. Stoltz. This leaves
room for improvement that will positively affect my personal and professional lives. My high score on
the Endurance measure of 38 shows that even in the most adverse and difficult situations that arise in my
life, I control my emotions and don’t allow other things to be negatively affected. Areas of improvement
surfaced in the Ownership measure by sometimes not stepping up when I am fatigued. I can address
this and other areas in need of improvement that will ultimately make me the leader I want to be.

Weekly Ascent Plans
“Celebrate what you accomplish, but raise the bar each time you
succeed.” ~Mia Hamm
At the beginning of every week, I commit myself to an ascent plan, where I set goals that I want to achieve by weeks
end. Every week, I discover new strengths and capabilities within myself that I never knew existed before. Without
setting high expectations and giving yourself something to work towards, you will never see any improvement in
your abilities as an individual. Take advantage of the opportunity to improve your self worth.
Here is an example and the structure of one of my ascent plans:
Setting the Goal – Run a mile in under 6 minutes
Finding the Motivation – As a basketball player, I want to improve my speed so that I won’t experience fatigue and I
will have an advantage against my competitors.
Action Steps – 1. I will run the mile at least 3 times per week | 2. I will eat healthy and provide my body with energy
to complete the feat | 3. I will do my homework early so that I ensure I get 8 hours of sleep per night
Timing – I will manage my schedule in an efficient manner, so that I find a good balance between when I eat, when I
study, and when I exercise and work out.
Obstacles to overcome – With midterms approaching, I will have to refrain from procrastinating, so that I find time to
train in the gym. Also, I hyperextended my knee recently and must ice the injury until it is recovered.
Resources I can use – Cal Poly’s state-of-the-art gym and my friend Cooper who is very motivating and physically fit
himself.

Leadership in Action
Self-worth over Net Worth. People over Things.
On May 28th
2013, two of my hometown friends and I launched a clothing company called Anza. It was a
project that we talked about starting two years previous our launch date and making it become a reality
was one of the best experiences of my life. It took an incredible amount of effort to put everything into
place and we faced several bumps in the road along the way, but we showed great persistence and hard
work by never giving up and proving to everyone, including ourselves that we could do it. The idea of
our brand was to create something that was unique and unlike any other brand promoted before it. We
wanted to put forth a fresh, creative sense of style that appealed to all ages, particularly young adults
aged 18-35. We take pride in our high quality products and commitment to the best customer service
out there. We know that relationships matter, so we would be thrilled to have the chance to connect with
you. Check us out on our website at www.anzaclothing.com, on our Facebook page, Instagram
@anzaclothing, or on our twitter @anza_clothing!
ANZA promotes Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness.

What are the 5 most important things to you in a job?
Using the self-guided leadership activity, The Real Deal, I selected 5
cards that reflected what I considered most important to me in a job.
The cards I selected were:
Relationships: Builds synergy within the workplace. If you have good relationships with those you work
with, then you will be compassionate to one another and more willing to serve.
Motivating/Inspiring Others: Being an example for others. You can’t be a leader if you don’t
motivate and inspire the people that surround you.
Sense of Purpose: Gives direction towards an ultimate goal and creates a commitment to achieving great
things.
Brightening Others’ day: Creates harmony within the work environment and therefore increases
productivity and incentive.
Creativity: Avoids dull repetition. It excites people for work and provides opportunity to innovate.

Leadership Theories
With so many different styles of leadership out there, it is important to incorporate elements of each of these styles to develop
yourself into a well-rounded leader. As I journey to grow and reach higher potentials as a leader, I use the principles of 10
leadership theories to guide me in the right direction.
1. Servant Leadership:
Servant leadership has taught me how to embody a selfless human being who commits to serving a greater purpose than
just themself. I have found that the greatest joy in life is found in serving and putting others first and this discovery has
completely changed my perspective on life.
2. Task-Oriented Leadership:
Task-oriented leadership has taught me what responsibility is. As a task-oriented leader, I value the importance of
meeting deadlines and completing the task exceptionally and on time. The high standard for performance is always there
and anything I put my name on, I take pride in and ensure that it is always my best work.
3. People-Oriented Leadership:
People-oriented leadership has taught me the true meaning of equality and support for others. With a primary focus on
teamwork, I have learned how to work effectively with others and this sparks creative collaboration within a group or
team. I personally feel I have become more friendly and personable.
4. Transformational Leadership:
Transformational leadership has taught me to not only transform myself, but to be the inspiration for others to transform as
well. This style means walking the talk. Having integrity, even when nobody is watching, and following through with what
you say. I have been made aware that every action I take corresponds to how I influence others.
16
5. Laissez-Faire Leadership:
Laissez-Faire leadership has taught me how relying on my own knowledge and abilities is sometimes the best way to
get things done. As a laissez-faire leader, I am inspired to always sharpen my skills and learn new things every day. I
have boosted my confidence as a leader through this style.
6. Bureaucratic Leadership:
Bureaucratic leadership has taught me that consistency should never be over-looked. Being consistent with good
work ethic, behavior, and character is extremely recognizable by those around you. People will look up to me for this
7. Autocratic Leadership:
Autocratic leadership has taught me how sometimes things just need to get done. I have seen that as an autocratic
leader, decisions must be smart, yet made quickly. I will be the person who steps up in a “make it or break it”
situation.
8. Transactional Leadership:
Transactional leadership has taught me the characteristic of humility and when to know my place. I have learned that
even leaders ask questions and look to others for help. Being a leader is also about humbling yourself and stepping
down when a task is not assigned to your role or is not your responsibility.
9. Charismatic Leadership:
Charismatic leadership has taught me that there is no better way to motivate people than being energetic and
expressing your readiness to tackle anything life throws at you. I have used charisma to inspire enthusiasm and
commitment to a common goal in others.
10. Democratic Leadership:
Democratic leadership has taught me about the value of other people’s inputs. Using this style, I have not only put
myself in a decision-making position, but I have ensured the best decisions will be made, using the accumulation of
every team members’ unique thoughts and ideas.

Case Study
19
I have seen so much growth in myself as a leader after taking The Leadership Summit with Dr. Ronda
Beaman. With all of the lessons I have learned and new skills I have attained, I have taken a great stride
forward in becoming the great leader that I know I will become.
For me personally, the most impactful lesson I took away from The Leadership Summit was how to
respond positively to adversity. Whether it be in the work world or just life in general, I will always
encounter adversity. The leader is truly recognized when they can step up while they are at their lowest
and feel most hopeless. Always keeping this in mind, I have seen positive results in my ability to
respond optimally, the moment hardships strike. This is something that everyone should take note of
because it forces you to focus on the positives of life. It greatly affects your outlook of life and has a
direct correlation with your happiness as an individual.
The greatest accomplishment of a great leader is being yourself in a society that constantly tells you to
be someone else. Finding what makes you, you and capitalizing on that has shown me potentials that I
never thought I could reach. I now understand the importance of living your own life and not somebody
else’s. Making yourself proud and satisfying your own goals and dreams will lead you in the direction of
greatness. I have built an attitude that I have nothing to lose and everything to gain, so seizing
opportunities when they are there has become clearer and easier. I am ready to assert myself as a
leader and make a genuine impact on the world!
Thank you so much for viewing my portfolio! I hope to hear
from you soon!
20
Vision Statement: I will be the person who others look at and say “I want to be that guy.” People will see me
in a different way than they see anyone else because of how I treat people, how I serve people, how I
respond to adversity, and how I exert happiness and positivity in everything I do.

  • 4. Introduction Hello! My name is Justin Hauser and I welcome you to my leadership portfolio. In this portfolio, I will showcase for you, myself as an individual and the unique qualities I possess as a leader. Not only will you gain insight into how I discovered my leadership potential, but also how I continue to grow and develop my leadership skills each and every day. The journey to becoming a leader is not an easy one. It takes committing yourself to a whole new lifestyle, which constantly demands that you show courage and remain motivated. I personally have learned that becoming a leader means being the best that you can be at all times. It means that you should always dream BIG and follow your heart. It means trusting the people you lead, always doing the right thing, and being a servant to others. College is the time of our lives where we must take risks as we constantly face the unknown. But it provides us with a unique opportunity to challenge ourselves by stepping up as leaders and succeeding in the face of adversity. I know that with this direction, I will use my leadership skills to not only enrich my life, but also improve the lives of everyone I surround myself with. I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to share my life with you through this portfolio. I thank you for taking the time to read through it and I hope you enjoy! Sincerely, Justin Hauser 4

  • 11. “The best use of life is love. The best expression of love is time. The best time to love is now.” ~Rick Warren Rick Warren is the greatest leader that I have ever had the pleasure to meet. He embodies the leadership qualities that I strive to possess and his dedication to service leadership is something that I am envious of. Rick Warren is an evangelical pastor who set out at a young age to establish a small church and now serves as a pastor for Saddleback Church, one of the most influential churches in America with over 20,000 people attending his weekend services. He is the author of The Purpose Driven Life, the bestselling hardback in American history, with over 30 million copies sold worldwide. Not only has he contributed his time and money to his community, but Rick is also passionate about global missions. As a response to the massive amount of poverty, disease, spiritual emptiness, self-serving leadership, and illiteracy our world experiences today, Rick initiated The Peace Plan – a massive effort to mobilize Christians around the world into an outreach effort to attack these five global issues of today. A man so full of service and integrity, Rick inspires me to be a selfless leader who will make a real difference in the world. 11
  • 12. AQ Score What is an AQ? AQ (Adversity Quotient) reflects how well a person can withstand adversity and his or her ability to overcome it. Dr. Paul G. Stoltz is the pioneer of the study of AQ which was developed in 1997. The concept of an AQ score is that it accurately forecasts whether we are more or less likely to exceed the expectations that life throws at us while also predicting how we behave in difficult situations. AQ can predict resilience and persistence of a person and can be used to enhance the effectiveness of teams, relationships, families, communities, cultures, societies and organizations. The CORE of AQ: Control (influence) Ownership Reach Endurance My AQ Score: 146 out of 200 I fall into the average AQ range in respect to worldwide studies performed by Dr. Stoltz. This leaves room for improvement that will positively affect my personal and professional lives. My high score on the Endurance measure of 38 shows that even in the most adverse and difficult situations that arise in my life, I control my emotions and don’t allow other things to be negatively affected. Areas of improvement surfaced in the Ownership measure by sometimes not stepping up when I am fatigued. I can address this and other areas in need of improvement that will ultimately make me the leader I want to be. 12
  • 13. Weekly Ascent Plans “Celebrate what you accomplish, but raise the bar each time you succeed.” ~Mia Hamm At the beginning of every week, I commit myself to an ascent plan, where I set goals that I want to achieve by weeks end. Every week, I discover new strengths and capabilities within myself that I never knew existed before. Without setting high expectations and giving yourself something to work towards, you will never see any improvement in your abilities as an individual. Take advantage of the opportunity to improve your self worth. Here is an example and the structure of one of my ascent plans: Setting the Goal – Run a mile in under 6 minutes Finding the Motivation – As a basketball player, I want to improve my speed so that I won’t experience fatigue and I will have an advantage against my competitors. Action Steps – 1. I will run the mile at least 3 times per week | 2. I will eat healthy and provide my body with energy to complete the feat | 3. I will do my homework early so that I ensure I get 8 hours of sleep per night Timing – I will manage my schedule in an efficient manner, so that I find a good balance between when I eat, when I study, and when I exercise and work out. Obstacles to overcome – With midterms approaching, I will have to refrain from procrastinating, so that I find time to train in the gym. Also, I hyperextended my knee recently and must ice the injury until it is recovered. Resources I can use – Cal Poly’s state-of-the-art gym and my friend Cooper who is very motivating and physically fit himself. 13
  • 14. Leadership in Action Self-worth over Net Worth. People over Things. On May 28th 2013, two of my hometown friends and I launched a clothing company called Anza. It was a project that we talked about starting two years previous our launch date and making it become a reality was one of the best experiences of my life. It took an incredible amount of effort to put everything into place and we faced several bumps in the road along the way, but we showed great persistence and hard work by never giving up and proving to everyone, including ourselves that we could do it. The idea of our brand was to create something that was unique and unlike any other brand promoted before it. We wanted to put forth a fresh, creative sense of style that appealed to all ages, particularly young adults aged 18-35. We take pride in our high quality products and commitment to the best customer service out there. We know that relationships matter, so we would be thrilled to have the chance to connect with you. Check us out on our website at www.anzaclothing.com, on our Facebook page, Instagram @anzaclothing, or on our twitter @anza_clothing! ANZA promotes Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness. 14
  • 15. What are the 5 most important things to you in a job? Using the self-guided leadership activity, The Real Deal, I selected 5 cards that reflected what I considered most important to me in a job. The cards I selected were: Relationships: Builds synergy within the workplace. If you have good relationships with those you work with, then you will be compassionate to one another and more willing to serve. Motivating/Inspiring Others: Being an example for others. You can’t be a leader if you don’t motivate and inspire the people that surround you. Sense of Purpose: Gives direction towards an ultimate goal and creates a commitment to achieving great things. Brightening Others’ day: Creates harmony within the work environment and therefore increases productivity and incentive. Creativity: Avoids dull repetition. It excites people for work and provides opportunity to innovate. 15
  • 16. Leadership Theories With so many different styles of leadership out there, it is important to incorporate elements of each of these styles to develop yourself into a well-rounded leader. As I journey to grow and reach higher potentials as a leader, I use the principles of 10 leadership theories to guide me in the right direction. 1. Servant Leadership: Servant leadership has taught me how to embody a selfless human being who commits to serving a greater purpose than just themself. I have found that the greatest joy in life is found in serving and putting others first and this discovery has completely changed my perspective on life. 2. Task-Oriented Leadership: Task-oriented leadership has taught me what responsibility is. As a task-oriented leader, I value the importance of meeting deadlines and completing the task exceptionally and on time. The high standard for performance is always there and anything I put my name on, I take pride in and ensure that it is always my best work. 3. People-Oriented Leadership: People-oriented leadership has taught me the true meaning of equality and support for others. With a primary focus on teamwork, I have learned how to work effectively with others and this sparks creative collaboration within a group or team. I personally feel I have become more friendly and personable. 4. Transformational Leadership: Transformational leadership has taught me to not only transform myself, but to be the inspiration for others to transform as well. This style means walking the talk. Having integrity, even when nobody is watching, and following through with what you say. I have been made aware that every action I take corresponds to how I influence others. 16
  • 17. 5. Laissez-Faire Leadership: Laissez-Faire leadership has taught me how relying on my own knowledge and abilities is sometimes the best way to get things done. As a laissez-faire leader, I am inspired to always sharpen my skills and learn new things every day. I have boosted my confidence as a leader through this style. 6. Bureaucratic Leadership: Bureaucratic leadership has taught me that consistency should never be over-looked. Being consistent with good work ethic, behavior, and character is extremely recognizable by those around you. People will look up to me for this 7. Autocratic Leadership: Autocratic leadership has taught me how sometimes things just need to get done. I have seen that as an autocratic leader, decisions must be smart, yet made quickly. I will be the person who steps up in a “make it or break it” situation. 8. Transactional Leadership: Transactional leadership has taught me the characteristic of humility and when to know my place. I have learned that even leaders ask questions and look to others for help. Being a leader is also about humbling yourself and stepping down when a task is not assigned to your role or is not your responsibility. 9. Charismatic Leadership: Charismatic leadership has taught me that there is no better way to motivate people than being energetic and expressing your readiness to tackle anything life throws at you. I have used charisma to inspire enthusiasm and commitment to a common goal in others. 10. Democratic Leadership: Democratic leadership has taught me about the value of other people’s inputs. Using this style, I have not only put myself in a decision-making position, but I have ensured the best decisions will be made, using the accumulation of every team members’ unique thoughts and ideas. 17

  • 20. I have seen so much growth in myself as a leader after taking The Leadership Summit with Dr. Ronda Beaman. With all of the lessons I have learned and new skills I have attained, I have taken a great stride forward in becoming the great leader that I know I will become. For me personally, the most impactful lesson I took away from The Leadership Summit was how to respond positively to adversity. Whether it be in the work world or just life in general, I will always encounter adversity. The leader is truly recognized when they can step up while they are at their lowest and feel most hopeless. Always keeping this in mind, I have seen positive results in my ability to respond optimally, the moment hardships strike. This is something that everyone should take note of because it forces you to focus on the positives of life. It greatly affects your outlook of life and has a direct correlation with your happiness as an individual. The greatest accomplishment of a great leader is being yourself in a society that constantly tells you to be someone else. Finding what makes you, you and capitalizing on that has shown me potentials that I never thought I could reach. I now understand the importance of living your own life and not somebody else’s. Making yourself proud and satisfying your own goals and dreams will lead you in the direction of greatness. I have built an attitude that I have nothing to lose and everything to gain, so seizing opportunities when they are there has become clearer and easier. I am ready to assert myself as a leader and make a genuine impact on the world! Thank you so much for viewing my portfolio! I hope to hear from you soon! 20
  • 21. Vision Statement: I will be the person who others look at and say “I want to be that guy.” People will see me in a different way than they see anyone else because of how I treat people, how I serve people, how I respond to adversity, and how I exert happiness and positivity in everything I do.
