2. ‘Find me an easy way to communicate
with my grandchildren who live abroad’

3. The User Problem
• Time differences make it difficult for them to communicate
with their grandchildren.
• Skype, whatsapp etc are too complicated for over 50s.
• Not much money to spend for expensiveinternational calls.
• Want to send pictures, videos, but no idea how.
• Smartphones are too small to type messsages.

4. Demographic
• Over 50 who have grandchildren in long distance.
• Happy to learn new tecnology, but no idea where to start.
• Not used to use smartphones.

5. What are >50 problems with tec?
• Technology feels too complicated for their needs.
• Touch screens often have buttons that are too small and difficult
to see.
• Technology makes them nervous because it seems easy to break
and easy to do something dangerous (Viruses, releasing personal
information, trusting scammers etc)

6. What are seniors’ problems with
smartphone apps?

8. 96% of age 18-25 identify common icons and
symbols used in digital communications.

9. 50% seniors cannot identify common icons and
symbols used in digital communications.

and bold enough to read easily.
