Tigers vs mitosis lesson (power point)

  1. 1. Tigers vs Mitosis
  2. 2. TIGERS Enter Phase TigersCircleville Before the game begins the players are in the locker room where they can’t be seen by the fans. They copy plays onto their wrist bands while mentally and physically preparing for the game. The officials are on the field getting ready to officiate. Everyone is getting ready to start the game.
  3. 3. MITOSIS Interphase Before mitosis can begin, the chromosomes are in the nucleolus, where they cant be seen. They begin to make copies of themselves. The cell is getting ready for mitosis to begin.Centrioles Nucleolus (2 pair) Nuclear Envelope
  4. 4. TIGERSStage 1: Players AnnouncedThe Tigers burst out of the locker room and don’t return again until later. The players gather together as their names are announced and they run out of the tunnel into the light. This is the first time they are seen by the fans. The officialsmove off to the sides of the field to clear the way for the players.
  5. 5. MITOSIS Stage 1: Prophase The chromosomes burst out of the nucleolus, and the nucleolus disappears. The chromosomes becomes visible. Centrioles begin moving to opposite ends of the cell.Centrioles (2 pair) Chromosome, Consisting of Two Sister Chromarids Centromere
  6. 6. TIGERS Stage 2 Players meet togetherCircleville Tigers Players separate and spread out. The offensive players gather together and the defensive players gather together and begin practicing some plays. The players are moving and warming up.
  7. 7. MITOSIS Stage 2 Prometaphase The nuclear membrane dissolves. Proteins attach to the centromeres creating the kinetochores. Microtubules attach at the kinetochores and the chromosomes begin moving. Captured Chromosomes Nuclear VesiclePolarMicrotutule Mitotic Spindle PoleKinetochoreMicrotubule
  8. 8. TIGERS Stage 3: Meet for Coin TossCircleville Tigers The team captains meet in the middle of the field for the coin toss.
  9. 9. MITOSIS Stage 3: Metaphase Spindle fibers align the chromosomes along the middle of the cell nucleus. CapturedChromosomes Nuclear VesiclePolar KenetochoreMicrotutule Mitotic Spindle PoleKinetochoreMicrotubule
  10. 10. TIGERS Stage 4: Ana the Game Begins TigersCircleville The two teams split and line up on opposite sides of the field for the kick-off...ana the game begins.
  11. 11. MITOSIS Stage 4: Anaphase The paired chromosomes separate at the kinetochores and move to opposite sides of the cell. Increasing Separation of SpindleDaughter PolesChromosomes
  12. 12. TIGERS Stage 5: Telophone Family The players go to their separate locker rooms where they become invisible again to the fans. The Tigers telephone their families to say they won and will be home soon. The game is over and the two teams go their own ways. They play another team nextweek and it starts all over again.
  13. 13. Centrosome Stage 5: Telophase Complete NuclearChromatids go to opposite Envelope sides of the cell, and new membranes form around the nuclei. The chromosomes disappear. The cell is now ready to begin mitosis all over again. Contractile Ring Decondensed Chromosomes
