WORK EXPERIENCE:
April 2015 – Present Burn/Wound Nurse Practitioner, Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC
Work with the Director of the Burn Clinic at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center to develop the
new Wound Healing Center at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The growth of the Wound
Healing Center includes developing standards of practice, training staff on new procedures,
diagnosing and treating patients with chronic and acute wounds associated with multiple etiologies. In
addition to working with patients in the clinic environment I assist the burn surgeons in the operating
room with patients receiving burn/wound surgeries such as skin excision and grafting, tissue expansions,
debridement and amputations.
October 2006 – March 2015 Burn/Trauma Nurse, Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC
As a registered nurse on the burn intensive care unit I monitor patients and family members’ needs. I
give direct care to patients that encompass titration of intravenous medication; treating and dressing burn
injuries; identifying potential and actual medical complications; assisting with physical therapy and
rehabilitation activities; and providing comfort to patients and family members during time of loss and
grieving. My role on the unit also includes educating and orienting new nurses to the unit. I actively
continue to develop my profession by participating in formal organizations, continuing education
credits, and using research based evidence to guide my training and patient care.
August 2011 – September 2013 MedStar Flight Nurse, Washington Hospital Center,
Washington, DC
I transported critically ill patients from hospital to hospital via helicopter or ambulance depending on the
severity and time constraints of the patients’ condition. While on the emergency vehicle I worked with a
paramedic and managed our medical team between facilities. When working in the trauma bays located
in the hospital I worked as a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide the highest quality and life
saving care to trauma victims. My role also included initial evaluation of all Left Ventricular Assist
Device patients being admitted to Washington Hospital Center.
March 2000 – October 2001 Emergency Services Manager, American Red Cross, Washington DC
I managed the Disaster Action Teams and the Disaster Service human resources for the Washington DC
and Fairfax, Virginia area. My job included coordinating volunteers and employees to respond to local
and national disasters such as floods, fires, and tornados. I recruited, trained and managed 100
volunteers for the Emergency and International Services department. I developed and wrote the training
courses and schedules for the Disaster Team Action members. I participated and assisted with grant
writing projects related to the emergency response division of the American Red Cross
January 1999 – March 2000 Administrator Manager of Youth and Health & Safety Services, American
Red Cross, Washington, DC
As an administrative manager of Health and Safety Services I supervised the Health & Safety staff in
daily job performances, oversaw HIV/AIDS programs for the National Capital Chapter, provided
technical support in the fields of HIV and Health & Safety course to all staff members, recruited
volunteer instructors for Health & Safety programs, and coordinated all instructor courses in the Health
& Safety department. In addition to the management of the office staff I was also involved and co-
facilitated Teen Voice! trainings with the Youth Department specialists, developed and taught leadership
skills at the Leadership Development Conference for youth and assisted with grant writing for HIV
awareness programs.
