2. Procedure How to replace NPU1 B with NPU1 C | eerwsum | 2015-05-07 | Page 2
background
› Due to NPU1 B can not be ordered anymore and NPU1 C
is the module that suitable and matched to replace NPU1
B.
› Certain condition need to be fulfills before we are doing
replacement of NPU1 B H/W with NPU1 C H/W. We need
to do modification in old node Backup configuration using
NPU1 B before we can use the old backup configuration in
the node using a new hardware NPU1 C due both
hardware have a different product number as below:
NPU1 B ----------> ROJR 208 006/1
NPU1 C ----------> ROJR 208 011/1
Details Pre-requisites and Procedure you can find in the
following slides.
› NPU1 B & NPU1 C is only fitted with AMM 20p

Pre-requisites
› Before doing replacement of NPU make sure ML-TN node
already working under software baseline TN 4.4 FP2 (R22M10)
or above or working with the latest software is preferable.
› We should have the latest backup configuration for existing
Node using NPU1 B in our folder:
C:tn_ftp_hometn_backup_configuration
› We should have a new NPU1 C H/W revision and naming
convention board 1/11 type for NPU1 C.
› Use the latest Mini-Link Craft Available in Software Gateway or
at least use Mini-Link Craft 2.21.
› A new module NPU1 C on the sub rack AMM should occupied a
same slot as existing NPU1 B.
› Another module should be remain in the same slot position
before and after replacement NPU1 B to NPU1 C.

Procedure
1. Take a note Naming convention board 1/11 type for NPU1 B and NPU1 C :
Naming convention for NPU1 B:
board 1/11 type "ROJR 208 006/1" “XXX" "1“, where “XXX” is H/W revision NPU1 B
(physical).
Naming convention for NPU1 C:
board 1/11 type "ROJR 208 011/1" “YYY" "16“, where “YYY” is H/W revision NPU1 C
(Physical).
2. Do editing use notepad naming convention for NPU1 B become naming convention
for NPU1 C inside the latest node backup configuration as below:
board 1/11 type "ROJR 208 006/1" “XXX" "1“ board 1/11 type "ROJR 208 011/1" “YYY" "16“
Where “XXX” is H/W revision (physical) for existing NPU1 B and “YYY” is H/W
revision (physical) for a new NPU1 C and saved it under:
C:tn_ftp_hometn_backup_configuration

3. Turn OFF version control on the ML-TN node, so SBL will be N/A --> This is to avoid
MLTN system reject new NPU's software that is not match with system software.
4. Replace NPU1 B with a new module NPU1 C.
5. Mini-Link TN will start up and goes into Installation Mode.
6. Select restoring configuration by download the configuration (download a changed
backup configuration that we save it on the step no. 2).
7. Activate.
8. Now Mini-Link TN with a new NPU1 C module will start up and running as previous
configuration.
