Hailed as “Polish Virtuoso,” Krystian Tkaczewski is pursuing his splendid piano career in USA,
Asia and Europe. He had his triumph in having Carnegie Hall Debut in April 2007. Anthony Aibel
(critic of New York Concert Review) wrote among others: Tkaczewski was elegant, showed in-depth
knowledge, played with passion, showed power-house technic. Reading of Rachmaninov and of
Prokofiev was excellent. Szymanowski was exquisitely shaped, showing lovely shadings and contrasts
of dynamics. He showed devotion and natural affinity for music of his homeland.
Krystian Tkaczewski was born in 1980 in Tarnów, Poland. In 2000 Krystian became a student of
Olga Rusina at the Academy of Music in Wrocław, from which he graduated in 2004 with a Master of
Arts degree. In 2007 Krystian received a graduate diploma. In 2014, Krystian Tkaczewski received
Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Hartt School, University of Hartford in the studio of
professor Oxana Yablonskaya. Krystian was also awarded The Honor Regents Award, for the best
graduating doctoral candidate of the Hartt School and prestigious induction to Pi Kappa Lambda
Music Honor Society.
Krystian has been a laureate of over 20 international piano competitions in such countries as: Greece
(Athens), Italy, Spain (Madrid), Macedonia, Czech Republic and USA (i.e. Iturbi, Artists International,
Bradshaw and Buono, 5 Towns, Joyce Dutka, American Protégé, Web Concert Hall).
Dr. Krystian Tkaczewski was invited to take part in various festivals such as: Chopin Festival in
Marienbad,Chopin Fest in Kosovo, Paderewski Festival, Chopin Festival in Gaming, Austria,
Chopin Festival in Antonin, Poland, Festival of Polish Pianists in Słupsk,
Lato z Chopinem Festival in Busko-Zdrój, Chopin Forum in Wrocław, Inter-Fest Bitola in Macedonia,
El Paso Chopin Festival, Chopin Festival in Budapest and recitals at the Chopin House in Żelazowa
Wola. In the June 2006 Krystian featured as a soloist with Polish Radio Orchestra during 50th
Anniversary of Society of Polish Artist Musicians gala in Royal Castle in Warsaw.

Krystian has concertized on five continents and 28 countries: USA, Canada, Panama, Mexico, China,
Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia. Vietnam, Syria, Jordan, Azerbaijan, Morocco,
Australia, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy,
Greece, Andorra, Hungary and Macedonia. He featured with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra,
Polish Radio Orchestra, Wroclaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Leopoldinum Orchestra, Connecticut
Virtuosi, Tarnów Chamber Orchestra and the Wroclaw Chamber Orchestra, conducted by
E. Cumming, Ł. Borowicz, Z. Graca , M. Gawroński, K. Górski, M. Kolaska, A. Mackiewicz.
Krystian is also highly regarded as the clinician, serving as a guest artist to the Universities and as the
lecturer of many master classes in such countries as: USA, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia,
Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, China and Poland. His unique presentation on the interpretation of
Chopin's Mazurkas attracted numerous music institutions around the world.
Recipient of several scholarships and awards including the Chopin scholarship in 1995, Wroclaw
Music Academy Academic Scholarship for 2001-2004, the Polish Minister of Culture Scholarship
in 2002,2005, 2007 (Mloda Polska), City of Tarnów President's Scholarship for 2001- 2002,
Musical Club of Hartford 's E.B.Storrs Scholarship and Tadeusz Sendzimir Memorial Fund.
He was awarded for his contribution to the cultural heritage of the State of Connecticut during
Immigrant Day at State Capitol in Hartford in 2012. Krystian received proclamations for his
achievements from Governor of Connecticut, Secretary of State of Connecticut, Mayor of Hartford.
Krystian Tkaczewski received the prestigious Congressional Recognition in honor of
“inspiring pianists throughout the world with the music of Chopin.” by US Congressman John Larson.
Krystian Tkaczewski is an active member of the Society of Polish Musical Artists SPAM since 2004.
Krystian is a founder and artistic director of Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford
and the artistic director of Connecticut Chopin Foundation. Krystian Tkaczewski became a new artistic
director of International Chopin Festival “Lato z Chopinem” – Barbara Hesse Bukowska in memoriam
in 2014, as nominated by deceased Barbara Hesse- Bukowska.
Dr. Tkaczewski has received the prestigious “Extraordinary Ability in Arts” permanent residency in
United States of America as one of a small percentage of those who have risen to the top in their
field of endeavor. He was awarded with merit for culture medal in 2015 from Polish Minister of Culture
and National Heritage for promoting Polish culture.

Roy Eaton, USA
Roy Eaton, winner of the first Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Award in June 1950,
made his American debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performing Chopin's
F minor Concerto under George Schick in 1951. He was re-engaged to perform
Beethoven's 4th concerto the following season, and also made his New York Town Hall
debut in 1952.
His career was "temporarily" interrupted by 2 years of service in the U.S.Army
during the Korean conflict,then approximately 30 years in advertising
at Young & Rubicam, then as V.P. Music Director of Benton& Bowles,then running
his own production company. He was recently inducted into the Advertising Hall of Fame
for his Ad work.
He is currently on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music. In addition to Chopin,
his performances of the music of Scott Joplin have been particularly noteworhy.
"My mission has been to restore Joplin's works to the domain that it was his intention
that they live--as classical works in the tradition of the great European masters
that constituted an important inspirational resource for him."

Judges-Naomi Ishii, Japan
Naomi Ishii, Japan
Following her Japanese Music University graduate, Naomi Ishii continued her studies
at the Music University Mozarteum in Salzburg with Hans Leygraf from 1981 to 84.
Then she returned to her home country and became one of the most successful
Japanese pedagogues in the education of young piano talents. A great number of her
students continuously get first prizes at the PTNA Competition, the Japanese Students
Competition, the Japanese Competition for Classical Music and many other contests.
Ms. Ishii herself is annually given the „Teachers‘ Award“: since 2001 by PTNA,
the Japanese Piano Teachers National Association and since 2005 by the Japanese
Competition for Classical Music. In 2005 she even received the PTNA’s „Special Teacher’s
Award“! Next to her concertizing, Naomi Ishii adjudicates at many different
competitions and holds lectures and master-classes all over Japan. Since 2010
she is director of the all-Japanese Bach Competition.
Judges-Stephan Möller, Austria
Stephan Möller, Austria
First gained pianistic prominence as a prizewinner at the 1985 International Beethoven
Competition in Vienna. Since then his busy concert schedule has taken him to Japan,
China, North and South America as well as all over Europe. Performing all the standard
repertoire, Stephan Möller has concentrated especially on the interpretation of the
Viennese Classics, in particular Beethoven’s 32 piano sonatas and 5 piano concerti,
as well as on Franz Liszt's paraphrases of Wagner opera scenes and his transcriptions
of Beethoven’s symphonies. Among his CD recordings, there are such rarities as
Beethoven’s “Grosse Fuge” and the complete piano works by Richard Wagner.
Born 1955 in Hamburg, Germany, Stephan Möller got his degrees in piano performance
and orchestra conducting at the “Mozarteum” university in Salzburg, Austria. From
1983 to 1989, he worked at the Salzburg Festival, assisting Herbert von Karajan and
other world-renowned conductors. In 1990, he took up an appointment at the University
for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He is frequently invited to hold master classes
(e. g. Wiener Meisterkurse) and lectures around the world. Stephan Möller is president
of the association "Vienna International Pianists" and their festival, the “VIP Academy”.
In 2009, he founded the “International Rosario Marciano Piano Competition”.

JAN POPIS – Poland (Warsaw). Musicologist. Music critic. Specialization in the field of
piano music. He studed musicology at the Warsaw University. Since 1975 he began a regular
cooperation with the music magazine Ruch Muzyczny, where he published reviews and
articles dedicated to the history of piano music. He takes part in musicological symposiums,
presenting reports about piano music, piano playing, as well as chopinological subjects.
He is an author of biographical entries of pianists in the polish music encyclopedia.
Since 1975 he has been a musical editor and a broadcaster for the Polish Public Radio in
Warsaw. He made a number of radio programmes devoted to piano music, especially
Chopin's music. He is often invited to consult in various musical events like festivals and
piano competitions as the judge.
Jan Popis received a prestigious award for the Music Critic of the Year - a medal founded
by the Association of Polish Artists Musicians for outstanding music juornalism.
Since 1998, as a media-art director he has been collaborating with Krystian Zimerman and his
Polish Festival Orchestra for a realization a Chopin's project to perform his piano concertos
in the biggest musical centers of the world: in Paris, London, Brussels, Amsterdam,
New York, Washington, Warsaw etc.
He has cooperated as the advisor with Rafał Blechacz – I Prize Winner of the Chopin
International Piano Competition in Warsaw 2005.
Jan Popis is a co-founder and the artistic director of The International Competition for
Young Pianists Arthur Rubinstein in memoriam in Bydgoszcz; the artistic director of
The Festival of Polish Pianist in Słupsk. Since last years he has been the artistic and
programme director of the National Label of Polish Phonography MUZA – Polskie Nagrania.
Since 2013 he has been the President of the Associaton of Polish Artists Musicans.
Toshiki Usui, Japan
Judges-Toshiki Usui, Japan
Pianist, Toshiki Usui made his acclaimed international debut after winning the Cantu International
Competition (Italy), and has since been concertizing extensively.Also the winner of the Viotti
International Competition (Italy) and numerous awards at Holland Music Sessions (Netherlands),
Mr. Usui has played throughout Europe,U.S.A, the former Soviet Republics, Central America,
the Middle East, and Asia.
Recent activities include his “Across the World” tour project, started in 2008, which has taken him
across Europe, the Middle East, and the U.S. He also actively participates in performances
at international music festivals worldwide, and has been invited to the juries of international
piano competitions.
From 2004 to 2006, Mr. Usui was engaged annually for subscription concerts in Kiev, Ukraine,
both as recitalist and soloist with the Kiev State Philharmonic. Winning accolades for his concerts
there, he was invited alongside Paul Gulda and Rafael Oleg to perform the Shostakovich
First Piano Concerto for the“Schumann and his Contemporaries” (2005) and “Shostakovich
100th Anniversary” (2006) series.
He has presented charity concerts under the aegis of the U.N. for the Palestinian Refugee Camps.
Since 2003, Mr. Usui is based in Vienna, centering his activities in Europe while continuing
to perform worldwide.
Mr. Usui has garnered particularly high acclaim for his performances of contemporary works.
He received the Donemus prize for the best performance of a contemporary work, given by
Holland Music Sessions, and in 2006, a special prize for contemporary art given by the Viennese
society for the advancement of contemporary art, TAMAMU. He has also given the Japanese premiere
of the Vincent d’Indy Piano Concerto.
In Japan, Mr. Usui has performed with many orchestras, including the Tokyo Philharmonic,
Kanagawa Philharmonic, and Geidai Philharmonia. In recitals and music festivals, he has collaborated
with artists Ivry Gitlis,Pierre Amoyal, Krzysztof Wegrzyn, Wolfgang Marschner, among others.
Born in Tokyo, in 1977, Toshiki Usui studied at the Tokyo University High School for Fine Arts,
Tokyo University for Fine Arts, and Salzburg Mozarteum (Austria), and has studied under professors
Shuku Iwasaki, Katsumi Ueda, Karl-Heinz Kammerling, and Avo Kuyumjian.
Mr. Usui is a graduate Visiting Associate Professor at SHOBI University.

Judges-Krystian Tkaczewski, Poland Krystian Tkaczewski, Poland -President of Jury Hailed as “Polish Virtuoso,” Krystian Tkaczewski is pursuing his splendid piano career in USA, Asia and Europe. He had his triumph in having Carnegie Hall Debut in April 2007. Anthony Aibel (critic of New York Concert Review) wrote among others: Tkaczewski was elegant, showed in-depth knowledge, played with passion, showed power-house technic. Reading of Rachmaninov and of Prokofiev was excellent. Szymanowski was exquisitely shaped, showing lovely shadings and contrasts of dynamics. He showed devotion and natural affinity for music of his homeland. Krystian Tkaczewski was born in 1980 in Tarnów, Poland. In 2000 Krystian became a student of Olga Rusina at the Academy of Music in Wrocław, from which he graduated in 2004 with a Master of Arts degree. In 2007 Krystian received a graduate diploma. In 2014, Krystian Tkaczewski received Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Hartt School, University of Hartford in the studio of professor Oxana Yablonskaya. Krystian was also awarded The Honor Regents Award, for the best graduating doctoral candidate of the Hartt School and prestigious induction to Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society. Krystian has been a laureate of over 20 international piano competitions in such countries as: Greece (Athens), Italy, Spain (Madrid), Macedonia, Czech Republic and USA (i.e. Iturbi, Artists International, Bradshaw and Buono, 5 Towns, Joyce Dutka, American Protégé, Web Concert Hall). Dr. Krystian Tkaczewski was invited to take part in various festivals such as: Chopin Festival in Marienbad,Chopin Fest in Kosovo, Paderewski Festival, Chopin Festival in Gaming, Austria, Chopin Festival in Antonin, Poland, Festival of Polish Pianists in Słupsk, Lato z Chopinem Festival in Busko-Zdrój, Chopin Forum in Wrocław, Inter-Fest Bitola in Macedonia, El Paso Chopin Festival, Chopin Festival in Budapest and recitals at the Chopin House in Żelazowa Wola. In the June 2006 Krystian featured as a soloist with Polish Radio Orchestra during 50th Anniversary of Society of Polish Artist Musicians gala in Royal Castle in Warsaw. Krystian has concertized on five continents and 28 countries: USA, Canada, Panama, Mexico, China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia. Vietnam, Syria, Jordan, Azerbaijan, Morocco, Australia, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Andorra, Hungary and Macedonia. He featured with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Polish Radio Orchestra, Wroclaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Leopoldinum Orchestra, Connecticut Virtuosi, Tarnów Chamber Orchestra and the Wroclaw Chamber Orchestra, conducted by E. Cumming, Ł. Borowicz, Z. Graca , M. Gawroński, K. Górski, M. Kolaska, A. Mackiewicz. Krystian is also highly regarded as the clinician, serving as a guest artist to the Universities and as the lecturer of many master classes in such countries as: USA, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, China and Poland. His unique presentation on the interpretation of Chopin's Mazurkas attracted numerous music institutions around the world. Recipient of several scholarships and awards including the Chopin scholarship in 1995, Wroclaw Music Academy Academic Scholarship for 2001-2004, the Polish Minister of Culture Scholarship in 2002,2005, 2007 (Mloda Polska), City of Tarnów President's Scholarship for 2001- 2002, Musical Club of Hartford 's E.B.Storrs Scholarship and Tadeusz Sendzimir Memorial Fund. He was awarded for his contribution to the cultural heritage of the State of Connecticut during Immigrant Day at State Capitol in Hartford in 2012. Krystian received proclamations for his achievements from Governor of Connecticut, Secretary of State of Connecticut, Mayor of Hartford. Krystian Tkaczewski received the prestigious Congressional Recognition in honor of “inspiring pianists throughout the world with the music of Chopin.” by US Congressman John Larson. Krystian Tkaczewski is an active member of the Society of Polish Musical Artists SPAM since 2004. Krystian is a founder and artistic director of Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford and the artistic director of Connecticut Chopin Foundation. Krystian Tkaczewski became a new artistic director of International Chopin Festival “Lato z Chopinem” – Barbara Hesse Bukowska in memoriam in 2014, as nominated by deceased Barbara Hesse- Bukowska. Dr. Tkaczewski has received the prestigious “Extraordinary Ability in Arts” permanent residency in United States of America as one of a small percentage of those who have risen to the top in their field of endeavor. He was awarded with merit for culture medal in 2015 from Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage for promoting Polish culture.

Judges - Roy Eaton, USA Roy Eaton, USA Roy Eaton, winner of the first Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Award in June 1950, made his American debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performing Chopin's F minor Concerto under George Schick in 1951. He was re-engaged to perform Beethoven's 4th concerto the following season, and also made his New York Town Hall debut in 1952. His career was "temporarily" interrupted by 2 years of service in the U.S.Army during the Korean conflict,then approximately 30 years in advertising at Young & Rubicam, then as V.P. Music Director of Benton& Bowles,then running his own production company. He was recently inducted into the Advertising Hall of Fame for his Ad work. He is currently on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music. In addition to Chopin, his performances of the music of Scott Joplin have been particularly noteworhy. Judges-Naomi Ishii, Japan Naomi Ishii, Japan Following her Japanese Music University graduate, Naomi Ishii continued her studies at the Music University Mozarteum in Salzburg with Hans Leygraf from 1981 to 84. Then she returned to her home country and became one of the most successful Japanese pedagogues in the education of young piano talents. A great number of her students continuously get first prizes at the PTNA Competition, the Japanese Students Competition, the Japanese Competition for Classical Music and many other contests. Ms. Ishii herself is annually given the „Teachers‘ Award“: since 2001 by PTNA, the Japanese Piano Teachers National Association and since 2005 by the Japanese Competition for Classical Music. In 2005 she even received the PTNA’s „Special Teacher’s Award“! Next to her concertizing, Naomi Ishii adjudicates at many different competitions and holds lectures and master-classes all over Japan. Since 2010 she is director of the all-Japanese Bach Competition.
  • 8. Judges-Stephan Möller, Austria Stephan Möller, Austria First gained pianistic prominence as a prizewinner at the 1985 International Beethoven Competition in Vienna. Since then his busy concert schedule has taken him to Japan, China, North and South America as well as all over Europe. Performing all the standard repertoire, Stephan Möller has concentrated especially on the interpretation of the Viennese Classics, in particular Beethoven’s 32 piano sonatas and 5 piano concerti, as well as on Franz Liszt's paraphrases of Wagner opera scenes and his transcriptions of Beethoven’s symphonies. Among his CD recordings, there are such rarities as Beethoven’s “Grosse Fuge” and the complete piano works by Richard Wagner. Born 1955 in Hamburg, Germany, Stephan Möller got his degrees in piano performance and orchestra conducting at the “Mozarteum” university in Salzburg, Austria. From 1983 to 1989, he worked at the Salzburg Festival, assisting Herbert von Karajan and other world-renowned conductors. In 1990, he took up an appointment at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He is frequently invited to hold master classes (e. g. Wiener Meisterkurse) and lectures around the world. Stephan Möller is president of the association "Vienna International Pianists" and their festival, the “VIP Academy”. In 2009, he founded the “International Rosario Marciano Piano Competition”.
  • 9. Jan Popis, Poland Judges - Jan Popis, Poland JAN POPIS – Poland (Warsaw). Musicologist. Music critic. Specialization in the field of piano music. He studed musicology at the Warsaw University. Since 1975 he began a regular cooperation with the music magazine Ruch Muzyczny, where he published reviews and articles dedicated to the history of piano music. He takes part in musicological symposiums, presenting reports about piano music, piano playing, as well as chopinological subjects. He is an author of biographical entries of pianists in the polish music encyclopedia. Since 1975 he has been a musical editor and a broadcaster for the Polish Public Radio in Warsaw. He made a number of radio programmes devoted to piano music, especially Chopin's music. He is often invited to consult in various musical events like festivals and piano competitions as the judge. Jan Popis received a prestigious award for the Music Critic of the Year - a medal founded by the Association of Polish Artists Musicians for outstanding music juornalism. Since 1998, as a media-art director he has been collaborating with Krystian Zimerman and his Polish Festival Orchestra for a realization a Chopin's project to perform his piano concertos in the biggest musical centers of the world: in Paris, London, Brussels, Amsterdam, New York, Washington, Warsaw etc. He has cooperated as the advisor with Rafał Blechacz – I Prize Winner of the Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw 2005. Jan Popis is a co-founder and the artistic director of The International Competition for Young Pianists Arthur Rubinstein in memoriam in Bydgoszcz; the artistic director of The Festival of Polish Pianist in Słupsk. Since last years he has been the artistic and programme director of the National Label of Polish Phonography MUZA – Polskie Nagrania. Since 2013 he has been the President of the Associaton of Polish Artists Musicans.

Toshiki Usui, Japan Judges-Toshiki Usui, Japan Pianist, Toshiki Usui made his acclaimed international debut after winning the Cantu International Competition (Italy), and has since been concertizing extensively.Also the winner of the Viotti International Competition (Italy) and numerous awards at Holland Music Sessions (Netherlands), Mr. Usui has played throughout Europe,U.S.A, the former Soviet Republics, Central America, the Middle East, and Asia. Recent activities include his “Across the World” tour project, started in 2008, which has taken him across Europe, the Middle East, and the U.S. He also actively participates in performances at international music festivals worldwide, and has been invited to the juries of international piano competitions. From 2004 to 2006, Mr. Usui was engaged annually for subscription concerts in Kiev, Ukraine, both as recitalist and soloist with the Kiev State Philharmonic. Winning accolades for his concerts there, he was invited alongside Paul Gulda and Rafael Oleg to perform the Shostakovich First Piano Concerto for the“Schumann and his Contemporaries” (2005) and “Shostakovich 100th Anniversary” (2006) series. He has presented charity concerts under the aegis of the U.N. for the Palestinian Refugee Camps. Since 2003, Mr. Usui is based in Vienna, centering his activities in Europe while continuing to perform worldwide. Mr. Usui has garnered particularly high acclaim for his performances of contemporary works. He received the Donemus prize for the best performance of a contemporary work, given by Holland Music Sessions, and in 2006, a special prize for contemporary art given by the Viennese society for the advancement of contemporary art, TAMAMU. He has also given the Japanese premiere of the Vincent d’Indy Piano Concerto. In Japan, Mr. Usui has performed with many orchestras, including the Tokyo Philharmonic, Kanagawa Philharmonic, and Geidai Philharmonia. In recitals and music festivals, he has collaborated with artists Ivry Gitlis,Pierre Amoyal, Krzysztof Wegrzyn, Wolfgang Marschner, among others. Born in Tokyo, in 1977, Toshiki Usui studied at the Tokyo University High School for Fine Arts, Tokyo University for Fine Arts, and Salzburg Mozarteum (Austria), and has studied under professors Shuku Iwasaki, Katsumi Ueda, Karl-Heinz Kammerling, and Avo Kuyumjian. Mr. Usui is a graduate Visiting Associate Professor at SHOBI University.
