This document provides information about sustainable development. It defines sustainable development as meeting present needs without compromising future generations' ability to meet their own needs. The goal of sustainable development is to improve everyone's quality of life without damaging the environment. Examples of sustainable practices include using renewable resources, recycling, and energy efficiency. Learners are assigned activities like evaluating their homes' and schools' sustainability and researching local businesses' sustainable practices. They must create a video reporting their findings and educating any non-sustainable businesses.

• You are allowed to use your cell-phone to
search the meaning of this concept.

that meets the needs of the present
without compromising the ability of future
generations to meet their own needs.

The goal of sustainable development is to enable all
people throughout the world to satisfy their basic
needs and enjoy a better quality of life, without
compromising the quality of life of future generations.

Planning Goals…
In order for a house to be classed as
sustainable it must:
• Be designed and constructed using materials
which reduce impacts on the environment.
• Produce a living space which allows for
natural light and heat energy to be used.
• Provide private outside space which is easily
linked to public green areas.

knowledge you have gained suggest ways.
18. Assignments
• Our school does not have recycling bins,
which means its not following a simple
sustainable development.
• For an assignment the class will choice five
learners who will go to the nearest
municipality office to request for three
recycling bins for [ Plastics, Cans and paper]

• Previously you where instructed to search
on how various businesses follow the
sustainable development goal.
• As we have learnt on the different
measures businesses use you are required to
complete an assignment.
20. A research assignment.
• In groups of six visiting different business
(each group should visit a particular
business) in the community to research on
how they follow the sustainable
development goal.

• After you completed the group research, in
groups you are required to make a video
whereby you report on your research
findings.
• On the video report on how the business you
visited as group, follow the sustainable
development goal

• In case the business your group choose does
not follow any sustainable goal, using the
information you gained you have to educate
the business on how to follow a sustainable
development goal.
