I had to present months ago to the team about a topic I was interested in and thought would be great to share in hope that it would be useful at work. I've finally put it on SlideShare. Hopefully this presentation lights a spark in you as it did with me as I was reading up on it.

3. Fixed Mindset vs Growth Mindset
What is a Mindset?
Mindset is a simple idea discovered by world-renowned Stanford University
psychologist Carol Dweck in decades of research on achievement and success—a
simple idea that makes all the difference.
Your Mindset is your collection of thoughts and beliefs that shape your thought
habits. And your thought habits affect how you think, what you feel, and what you do.
Your Mindset impacts how you make sense of the world, and how you make sense of
you.
Think about your intelligence, your talents, your personality...
Are these qualities simply fixed traits, carved in stone and that’s that? Or are they
things you can cultivate throughout your life?
Because they are related to Mindset, it also helps to understand Attitude and Beliefs.
4. Fixed Mindset vs Growth Mindset
What is a Mindset? (continued)
Attitude
Your Attitude is how you feel about something.
Your Mindset shapes your Attitude, and your Attitude reinforces your Mindset.
Beliefs
The basic building blocks of beliefs are ideas. Beliefs are like a tabletop. As you
build references and experiences, you add legs to your tabletop.
When your idea feels certain, it becomes a belief.
Your beliefs shape your attitude.
Your attitude also shapes your beliefs.
Your beliefs and attitude shape your mindset.
Mindset is a way of thinking.
5. Fixed Mindset vs Growth Mindset
What is a Fixed Mindset?
In a fixed mindset, people believe their
basic qualities, like their intelligence or
talent, are simply fixed traits.
They spend their time documenting their
intelligence or talent instead of developing
them.
They also believe that talent alone creates
success—without effort.
Their goals end up becoming about
looking smart all the time and to never
appear incompetent.

6. Fixed Mindset vs Growth Mindset
What is a Growth Mindset?
In a growth mindset, people believe that their
most basic abilities can be developed and grow
through dedication and hard work—brains and
talent are just the starting point.
This view creates a love of learning and a
resilience that is essential for great
accomplishment. Virtually all great people have
had these qualities.
Teaching a growth mindset creates motivation
and productivity in the worlds of business,
education, and sports.
It enhances relationships and can help promote
a healthy lifestyle.2017/11/16

12. Fixed Mindset vs Growth Mindset
Portray criticism as positive.
Believe in the concept of ‘constructive criticism’.
Cultivate a sense of purpose.
Keep the big picture in mind.
Celebrate Growth with Others
If you truly appreciate growth, you’ll want to share
your progress with others.
Learn from other people’s mistakes
It’s not always wise to compare yourself to others,
but it is important to realise that humans share the
same weaknesses.
Take ownership over your attitude
Once you develop a growth mindset, own it.
Acknowledge yourself as someone who possesses a
growth mentality and be proud to let it guide you
throughout your career.
Think realistically about time and effort
It takes time to learn. Don’t expect to master
everything under the sun in one sitting.
Acknowledge and Embrace Imperfections
Hiding from your weaknesses means you’ll never
overcome them.
View Challenges as Opportunities.
Having a Growth Mindset means relishing
opportunities for self-improvement.
Try different learning tactics.
There’s no one-size-fits-all model for learning. Learn
what works best for you.
Replace the word ‘failing’ with the word ‘learning’.
When you make a mistake or fall short of a goal, you
haven’t failed; you’ve learnt.
Stop seeking approval.
When you prioritise approval over learning, you
sacrifice your own potential for growth.
Make a new goal for every goal accomplished.
You’ll never be done learning. Growth-minded people
know how to constantly create new goals to keep
themselves stimulated.
13. Fixed Mindset vs Growth Mindset
Summary
Nobody’s mindset is totally Fixed or Growth.
There may be a few extreme cases, but most of us lie somewhere in between the two.
We show different mindsets in different situations, depending on how we formed our
belief or attitude about our particular abilities/ideas.
Your Growth Mindset will enable you to work towards a better version of yourself by
pushing through comfort zone boundaries and learning from mistakes or short falls.
You will inspire others to also work towards their Growth Mindset and hopefully open a
circle of communication and learn off each other.
A Growth Mindset is a positive way of thinking.
15. Fixed Mindset vs Growth Mindset
THE CHALLENGE
Over the coming weeks, be aware of your Mindset when in different situations.
Try to:
• Identify when you’re in a Fixed Mindset
• Understand what is forming the Fixed Mindset, ie Belief / Experience, etc.
• Establish how a Growth Mindset will benefit you or others in this situation.
• Engage in steps towards a Growth Mindset by using Growth Mindset statements.
• Learn from the situation!
o How did the Fixed Mindset make you feel?
o How would you prevent the same Fixed Mindset next time?
o What were the positive outcomes from adopting a Growth Mindset?
Share your experiences, tips and knowledge with your team, friends and family!
