When Christ moves in at our conversion we put to death our old self. By doing away with the sinful person Jesus comes in, moves into your person and takes up residence by the life of faith.

110 Christ Dwelling In Us

2. “Christ in us,” is our topic this morning.
We find Jesus revealed He would dwell in us
when He told of the coming of the Holy Spirit.
About Jesus of Nazareth,
3. Acts 10:37 NIV You know what has happened
throughout the province of Judea, beginning in
Galilee after the baptism that John preached—
38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the
Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around
doing good and healing all who were under the
power of the devil, because God was with him.
4. John 14:15 NIV "If you love me, keep my commands.
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you
another advocate to help you and be with you
forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot
accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows
him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will
be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will
come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see
me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you
also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am
in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.
5. “On that day…” the day the Father sends the
Helper, Counselor, the Spirit of Truth.
This day is the day of Pentecost.
Some say the day spoken of was not only the
physical day of Pentecost but the era following
the giving of the Spirit on Pentecost which we
live in today.
6. One of the reasons it is important for Christ to
dwell in us is so the world could know the
Father loves the Son and hence loves those
who believe in the Son.
John 17:20 NIV "My prayer is not for them alone.
I pray also for those who will believe in me
through their message, 21 that all of them may
be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in
you.
7. May they also be in us so that the world may
believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given
them the glory that you gave me, that they may
be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in
me—so that they may be brought to complete
unity. Then the world will know that you sent me
and have loved them even as you have loved
me.
Furthermore, Christ dwelling in us shows
we belong to Him.
8. Romans 8:9 NIV You, however, are not in the
realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the
Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you.
And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ,
they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is
in you, then even though your body is subject to
death because of sin, the Spirit gives life
because of righteousness.
9. The world still lies in wickedness; and the
friends of Jesus, bound by the cords of eternal
love, should advance together against the
common enemy, and spread the triumphs of the
gospel around the globe. All that is needful now,
under the blessing of God, to convince the
world that God sent the Lord Jesus, is that very
union among all Christians for which he prayed;
10. and when that union of feeling, and purpose,
and action shall take place, the task of sending
the gospel to all nations will be soon
accomplished, and the morning of the millennial
glory will dawn upon the world.

Galatians 2:20 NIV I have been crucified with
Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in
me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith
in the Son of God, who loved me and gave
himself for me.
12. If we do not set up the life of faith Jesus cannot
live in us.
It is through faith Christ dwells in our hearts.
Ephesians 3:17 NIV so that Christ may dwell in
your hearts through faith. And I pray that you,
being rooted and established in love, 18 may
have power, together with all the Lord's holy
people, to grasp how wide and long and high
and deep is the love of Christ,
13. 19 and to know this love that surpasses
knowledge—that you may be filled to the
measure of all the fullness of God. 20 Now to
him who is able to do immeasurably more than
all we ask or imagine, according to his power
that is at work within us,
It is through faith Christ is able to dwell in
your heart. And because you are rooted and
established in love you will be able to grasp the
full spectrum of His love and thus be filled to
the fullest measure of God.
14. How blessed we are God permitted us to know
the wonderful mystery of Christ living in us.
Christ in us is our hope of glory.
Colossians 1:27 NIV To them God has chosen to
make known among the Gentiles the glorious
riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you,
the hope of glory.
15. But in order to have this hope of glory, Christ
living in us, there is a stipulation. He is our Lord
which means His commandments must be
obeyed.
1 John 3:23 NIV And this is his command: to
believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and
to love one another as he commanded us. 24 The
one who keeps God's commands lives in him, and
he in them. And this is how we know that he lives
in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.
16. By the Spirit we can know we are in Him and He
is in us because we are obeying His command.
And what is that command?
That we believe in the name of His Son Jesus
Christ and love one another.
Is that too hard?
17. It seems to be too hard for the saints at
Laodicea. You remember the Christians at
Laodicea are the ones that were neither hot nor
cold, just lukewarm. It seems when we become
lukewarm followers of Christ the residence is no
longer hospitable so He moves out. He doesn’t
want to be stuck on the outside and he
constantly knocks on the door wanting to move
back in to where he once lived happily.
18. Revelation 3:20 NIV Here I am! I stand at the
door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and
opens the door, I will come in and eat with that
person, and they with me.
19. Have any of us come to that place that is a
relaxed stage where we are neither energetic
nor depressed.
If we are at that ambiguous place in our life
behold, The Savior is trying to get back into
where you once let Him live.
Let Him in!
He is your hope of glory.
