2. International Women’s Day
IWD (celebrated on March 8 every year) is a
global day celebrating the social, economic,
cultural, and political achievements of women.
International Women's Day is all about
celebration, reflection, and advocacy, marking
a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
"The story of women's struggle
for equality belongs to no
single feminist nor to any one
organization but to the
collective efforts of all who care
about human rights."
- Gloria Steinem, world-
renowned feminist, journalist,
and social and political activist
3. 2017 Campaign Theme: #BeBoldForChange
This concept invites us to:
• Call on the masses or on ourselves to help forge a better working world—a more
gender inclusive world.
• Be Bold For Change in 2017 and take groundbreaking action that truly drives the
greatest change for women.
• Be a leader within our own spheres of influence to help accelerate the workforce
toward gender parity.
Lionbridge is honored to partner with Women in Localization—a global, female-
focused professional development organization—to recognize one outstanding woman
from each WL chapter. These nominees strongly embody “Be Bold for Change” and
actively promote growth and transformation in their circles.
4. Veronica Carioni, Catalonia
Senior Localization Specialist at Vistaprint
Currently based in Barcelona, Veronica is
Assistant Chapter Manager of WL Catalunya.
What she enjoys most about localization:
“What I like about working in this industry is that
it feels like a community of people who share a
challenge: show what the value of localization is.”
What her colleagues say:
“She has been helping with getting the Catalan
chapter off the ground since day one. “Be Bold for
Change” definitely represents Veronica’s attitude
in supporting women at her workplace and our
Catalan chapter to reach new levels of self-
awareness and professional growth.”
5. Chiara Pacella, Ireland
Language Manager at Facebook
Chiara joined Facebook in 2010, and was also a
partner in the EU-funded MultilingualWeb Thematic
Network.
What she enjoys most about localization:
“Localization is fun: the challenges are many, and the
pace is high. Since I am someone who gets easily
bored, what I love about the localization industry is
that it is almost impossible to get bored!”
How she represents “Be Bold for Change”:
“Being bold for change does not necessarily mean
risking it all. For me, it has meant making a series of
choices, at a personal and professional level.
Boldness is in the little big things that we do every
day.”
6. Yukako Ueda, Japan
APAC Lead, Global Content Management at NetApp
In March 2015, Yukako launched WL Japan. She is
the mother of three children.

something every day. My job in the localization
industry gives me all these experiences.”
How she represents “Be Bold for Change”:

making effort equally to provide the best
deliverables. We can improve things more by
trusting each other and communicating clearly.”

Director, Global Product Management at Starwood Hotels
After building Acclaro Inc. from the ground up, Ora
landed at Starwood Hotels to lead product
management and globalization.
What she enjoys most about localization:
“Being multicultural myself, I love the diversity in
this industry and the amazing people I have met
along the way.”
How she represents “Be Bold for Change”:
“When I work with younger women—men as well—
who are starting their careers, I make sure they are
comfortable speaking their minds in any setting. It is
OK to disagree and important to share their opinion,
even with someone senior to them.”
8. Alsu Shakirova, Pacific Northwest
Russian Localization Specialist at Blueprint
Starting out in academia, Alsu has now embarked on
the next exciting chapter of her career: video game
localization.
What she enjoys most about localization:
“Localization allows both the flight of creativity and
the precision of linguistic constraints. The fact that
localization tools are constantly evolving is another
great chance to develop technical skills and stay
apace in an ever-evolving industry.”
How she represents “Be Bold for Change”:
Alsu believes in taking risks, getting outside of her
comfort zone, and challenging the outdated ideas of
the workplace and social hierarchy. She is an active
localization advocate and a self-proclaimed

Born into a multicultural family, Yasmin is a
lifelong learner of languages. She joined

community; it’s easy to get to know and help each
other. It is a fairly new industry with limitless
potential for growth.”

Yasmin is actively involved with several nonprofit
organizations. Her contributions to these include
an enormous array of advocacy and community
service activities.

Managing Director at Elia
Originally from Boston, Lara launched a WL
chapter in the UK in 2014.
What she enjoys most about localization:
“What initially attracted me to the industry was
the wonderful open-mindedness and respect for
others that defines what the industry is about—
bringing the world to local audiences.”
How she represents “Be Bold for Change”:
“It was a bold move to launch the UK chapter of
Women in Localization. The honor, for me, is
knowing that by making that one bold move I
helped other women develop the confidence to
make positive changes in their own lives.”
