My Learning Styles
Musical & Social/Interpersonal
Musical
Reflects who I am and how I teach
No big surprise, I LOVE music.
Explains why I love to make up rhymes and songs for directions.
Explains why I so enjoy Pete the Cat books.
Explains why I love to Mo Willems books and do all the voices with
emotion.
Social/Interpersonal
Reflects why I love interaction
No big surprise for me.
I talk A LOT.
I love a discussion and always put in my two cents.
I am a people person.
What I learned about logical-mathematical learning style
• It’s not just about math!
• It explores how things are related and how things
work.
• It helps children think critically.
• It looks for patterns and order.
• It categorizes and characterizes.
What I learned about Kinesthetic learning style
• There is a reason some people can’t be still!
• These folks are good at sports and have good fine
motor skills.
• Incorporating body movement with learning will
help them process and retain information.
• I need to do more movement in my lessons for
these type learners!
Titles to use with Musical Learning Styles
I use the following titles with kindergarten story time when they are
introducing concepts as a reinforcement of classroom instruction.
Pete The Cat stories by Eric Litwin
Color Words- I Love My White Shoes
Together we sing this book and repeat the colors. I love that the
words are in corresponding colors. We have so much fun!
Introduction to subtraction- My Four Groovy Buttons
Together we rap refrain and learn that subtraction is really counting
backwards.
Title to use with Interpersonal learning style
So Each May Learn: Integrating Styles and Multiple Intelligences
by
Harvey F. Silver, Richard W. Strong, and Matthew J. Perini
• an excellence source of unit examples.
• This has awesome examples of integrating the interpersonal
style with other styles. The teachers and I could use some of
the examples as is or even adapt them to meet our learners’
individual needs.
Title to Use With Bodily-kinesthetic Learning Styles
The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg
We role play during holiday story time. Students all get a
ticket and sit on the train. I use the e-book and project it
onto the Promethean as I tell the story. I wear a conductor
hat and overalls. I have a train whistle and silver bell. We
pretend to ride the train to the North Pole and even had some
hot chocolate when we stop to get some gas. We ride the
train back to school and sing carols and play bells on the way.
Titles to Use with Linguistic Learning Style
The Jolly Postman by Janet & Allan Ahlberg
I have use to help teach letter writing.
Students write letters to favorite
characters from the book.
I Wanna Iguana by Karen Kaufman Orloff
I have used to help teachers teach persuasive writing
lesson. Students write letter to parent convincing them of
why they would like a certain pet.
Titles to use with Logical-Mathematical Learning Style
I Want My Hat Back & This Is Not My Hat
by Jon Klassen
• Perfect books to read for a compare/contrast
lesson with first grade.
• At lesson’s end we complete a Venn Diagram to
compare/contrast the two books.
Title to Use with Intrapersonal learning style
How Am I Smart? A Parent's Guide to Multiple
Intelligences by Dr. Kathy Koch
• I liked how this was not written in educational jargon.
• In this book someone with an intrapersonal learning
style is called Self Smart. I think that is a good
definition.
• I would point teachers to this resource if they wanted
a simple introduction to multiple intelligences.
Title to use with Visual-Spatial Learning styles
Classroom Applications from The Multiple Intelligences Series
by Linda and Bruce Campbell
• This would be something I could use with teachers when
collaborating.
• It has a Multiple-Intelligences Instructional and Assessment
Strategies Menu in it that would be an excellent place to refer to and
incorporate into our lessons.
• I had no idea where to start for this style and the menu was very
helpful. It is a great place to start to meet the needs of all learning
styles.
What I learned about learning styles in general
• For me, if you look at learning styles like strengths they are
easier to grasp.
• I can see what my own children’s styles are clearly by identifying
their strengths. I had my two teenagers take the assessment
and I was not surprised by their dominant style.
• If a educator took the time to evaluate or assess the styles of
their students or even integrated as many styles as possible
into daily instruction, learning could not help but be enhanced.

  • 9. Titles to use with Logical-Mathematical Learning Style I Want My Hat Back & This Is Not My Hat by Jon Klassen • Perfect books to read for a compare/contrast lesson with first grade. • At lesson’s end we complete a Venn Diagram to compare/contrast the two books.
  • 10. Title to Use with Intrapersonal learning style How Am I Smart? A Parent's Guide to Multiple Intelligences by Dr. Kathy Koch • I liked how this was not written in educational jargon. • In this book someone with an intrapersonal learning style is called Self Smart. I think that is a good definition. • I would point teachers to this resource if they wanted a simple introduction to multiple intelligences.
  • 11. Title to use with Visual-Spatial Learning styles Classroom Applications from The Multiple Intelligences Series by Linda and Bruce Campbell • This would be something I could use with teachers when collaborating. • It has a Multiple-Intelligences Instructional and Assessment Strategies Menu in it that would be an excellent place to refer to and incorporate into our lessons. • I had no idea where to start for this style and the menu was very helpful. It is a great place to start to meet the needs of all learning styles.
  • 12. What I learned about learning styles in general • For me, if you look at learning styles like strengths they are easier to grasp. • I can see what my own children’s styles are clearly by identifying their strengths. I had my two teenagers take the assessment and I was not surprised by their dominant style. • If a educator took the time to evaluate or assess the styles of their students or even integrated as many styles as possible into daily instruction, learning could not help but be enhanced.
