Sitting at a make up desk is a twenty something, female,
college student and aspiring performer. Meet ALLIANCE
ALLBRIGHT. Positive. Promising. Pleasant.
Alliance applies the last touches of her make up. She then
looks at her self in the mirror.
She inhales deeply then says--
ALLIANCE
--You can do this.
Alliance smiles at her reflection one last time as we--

INT. BLACK CROW COFFEE / TABLE IN THE CORNER - MORNING2-R 2-R
--Alliance sitting at a table, alone, drinking coffee in the
corner.
Something outside catches her eye and her smile spreads as
wide as physically possible.
The DOOR OPENS and in walks a twenty something, male, college
student and aspiring entrepreneur--
Meet MIKA MUNROE. Complementary. Contributory. Constructive.
Alliance smiles as Mika approaches.
Mika, once he reaches her table, leans down and kisses
Alliance then takes the seat across from her.
MIKA
For me?
He motions to a second cup of coffee on the table.
ALLIANCE
No. Sorry it's for my boyfriend.
Actually it's best you get a move
on. He's ugh, he's immensely
protective of me.

Well having seen your smile and now
having experienced the intoxication
severity of your parted lips,
(beat) I'm sure he would understand
my infatuation.
Alliance smiles wider with a laugh.
ALLIANCE
How was your evening?
MIKA
Well, (Beat) once I was asleep,
fine. A bit, ugh, nervous about my
scene today.
ALLIANCE
What! Why?
MIKA
I'm not you, babe. I can't, I cant
morph quite so easily. The way you
disappear every time is, is (Beat)
I don't know. It’s not within me. I
look at what you do, what you are
capable of and... I think to
myself, “Wow”. (Beat) Both getting
into and connecting to character is
rather difficult for me and this
scene requires a great deal from me
on a level I don't believe I am
equipped, nor ready for.
ALLIANCE
You got this. Just think about how
mad I can make you.
Mika smiles then stretches out his hand, open on the table.
Alliance smiles then takes his hand as we--

--Alliance and KINLEY, another female acting student are
performing a scene on stage while PROFESSOR STANIS and the
rest of the class watch.

her.
KINLEY
Well! I sure hope you've, like,
cooked up another brilliantly
elaborate excuse for abandoning me,

literally one of the worst moments
of like, my entire life!
ALLIANCE
Listen Linda--
KINLEY
--No! You listen, you inconsiderate
witch!
ALLIANCE
Please, I have something I
need to tell--
KINLEY (CONT'D)
--No! Like, It's always
something with you. Like
always. Like "Sorry I'm
doing this" or "Sorry I'm
doing that" and, like,
lately it's all
conveniently been for Mom.

Now Mika is on stage and performing a scene with FAWNA,
another female acting student.
Alliance is in the audience/class.
Fawna is seated on stage and Mika is pacing upstage.
MIKA
How dare you! I mean how dare you?
With Tom! My best, (Beat) Nope!
Pardon me, my ex best friend! My
love, my feelings for you were all
sincere and unconditional! And you
threw them back at me! In the face!
Like fruit at the end of a bad
play.
FAWNA
Baby! Please don't blame me. I, I
was drunk.

FAWNA
No! Don't blame Tom. We both love
you. Blair had just broken up with
him! He was, he was in a dark place

MIKA
--Yeah! You! (Beat) How could you?
How could y’all? On drill weekend
none the less. (Beat) So, you were
drunk, he was in a dark place and
he found comfort in your--

Back to Alliance's scene.
KINLEY
No! I have always been there! I

But, you never come through for me.

ALLIANCE
(screams)
--MOM IS DEAD!
Alliance begins to cry.
KINLEY
What?
Kinley sits beside Alliance doing her best to cry.
ALLIANCE
I don't know, (Beat) I don't know
what happened. Her nurse that night
said her vitals were fine and her
doctor, earlier came in to tell me
she was moving into remission.

6. (Beat) I fell asleep trying to
charge my phone to call you.
KINLEY
Oh! I'm so, so sorry. I, I.
Kinley tries to look more distraught like Alliance.
ALLIANCE
At first I thought maybe she was
finally sleeping well. But she was
just too still. I knew something
was wrong. (Beat) That's when I
grabbed her hand.
Kinley wraps her arm around Alliance as we dissolve--

INT. ECKERD COLLEGE / ACTING CLASS - EARLIER3-D 3-D
Mika and Fawna are finishing their scene.
FAWNA
Please baby don't hate us. We both
love you.
MIKA
You're always hurt most by those
who you are closest to. This hurts
too much. I can't, I just can't.
Mika runs off stage.
PROFESSOR STANIS
And scene! (Beat) Wonderful,
absolutely wonderful job guys!
Tremendous job everyone with the
“sense memory exercise”! Simply
splendid, sincerely. Now the only
note I have for Mika is to try and
reach a little further. I can tell
your just barely grasping. I know
you have more reach. I know it!
I’ve seen you do it, when you let
go and fall into character. That
didn't happen today, now what you
did was a rather good performance.
But I can tell you were still you,
you didn't release completely. If
you truly let go and dive in even
more you'll start to experience
that “self escape” we talked about.

Professor Stanis turns to look at Alliance with a smile of
admiration and pride.
Mika walks up to Alliance and bends down to kiss the top of
her head.
Alliance smiles as we--

Alliance, Mika, Kinley, and Fawna are eating lunch.
FAWNA
I feel like we did a good job.
ALLIANCE
For sure! Our entire class is
pretty dang good.
KINLEY
Alliance though, wow.
FAWNA
You know it's quite unfair how easy
it is for you.
MIKA
That's my girl.
Mika wraps his arm around Alliance and presses his forehead
to the side of her head.
ALLIANCE
What? I thought we all did a great
job. But, thank you.
KINLEY
So Professor Stanis’s friend is
going to be here tonight.

Mika sits with his back against a column and his arms wrapped
around Alliance, who is between his legs.
Alliance is looking at a digital flyer on a iPad for
auditions that evening for a traveling musical.
MIKA
Are you nervous?
ALLIANCE
No. Why should I be?
MIKA
Oh, I don't know. Maybe because
it's a really big freaking deal!
Professor Stanis said he had to
pull some very powerful strings to
get them to come down to Florida to
audition much less St. Pete /
Clearwater.
ALLIANCE
Yes. But he also said he's going to
put in a good word for me. Also
it's just another audition. I have
to think of it that way. I have to.
If it is meant to happen. Then it
will. If not. Then it wont.
MIKA
Baby? This could be the one. The
one that starts everything! After
tonight the world could be yours.
ALLIANCE
I know and the hyperbolic rhetoric
aside, it's just an audition.

I guess I'll be nervous enough for

ALLIANCE

MIKA
Where all will you travel?
ALLIANCE
Well, first I have to audition, get
called back, and subsequently cast.
If all of that happens then we
would tour up the east cost from
Atlanta all the way up to New York,
Broadway for a six month leg, then
a mid west tour for two months, and
finally the west coast leg ending
in LA after another three months.
Then they are going to let it play
out a full run on Broadway.
MIKA
And the rest is rock and roll
history?
ALLIANCE
And the rest is rock and roll
history.
Alliance smiles and leans the back of her head into the nape
of his neck.
MIKA
Are you still going to do the
monologue you wrote?
ALLIANCE
Yep!
MIKA
Break a leg beautiful. I have to
get to Buisness Three.
ALLIANCE
Okay! Have fun.
MIKA
You want me to skip? It’s just a
lecture today. I could get notes
from some one tomorrow.

Mika stands and Alliance leans back against his column.
MIKA

MIKA
I wouldn't miss it for the world.
Alliance smiles as Mika walks away.
Alliance closes her eyes and takes a deep breath as we--

Alliance opens her eyes.
She is at her audition and almost done with a monologue,
performing on stage, before a table of people, one of which
is Professor Stanis.
ALLIANCE
True art may be the most
Undefined, immortal, amoeba of a
Concept in this what we call our
World. It is not only raw, organic,
individually unique, and originally
genuine but it encompasses all.
(Beat) It is the experience we
receive prior to death, and after
the miracle of birth, and yet most
importantly outside the confines
and the restrictions of reality.
The creation of True Art is a
process causing a plethora of
pleasure found in pain parented by
your passions. At the center of it
all, the heart is the story
conveyed by emotion and

unquantifiable heart string pulling
power. True art is only achieved

perception of what "is" becomes
altered and beautifully flawed by
the perfection that is "story
telling", all of which is revealing

can not recommend her enough!
DIRECTOR
(quietly)
I'm sorry, but I just can't use
her.
Alliances feigns ignorance as she smiles.

Alliance sits at her makeup desk removing her makeup.

12. PUSH IN: On Alliance removing her eye make up--
A TEAR ESCAPES her eye. Alliance stares at her reflection.
The sound of MIKA'S VOICE is heard--
MIKA
--Hello? Babe? Are you--
--Mika walks in and stops talking, instantly.
Alliance looks up at Mika.
Alliance tries to smile.
Mika walks the rest of the way in, then up to Alliance and
kneels--
Mika grabs the side of Alliance's cheek and presses his
forehead to her's--
--Alliance begins to cry. Soft at first then harder and
harder with a steady emotional crescendo--
Mika wraps his arms around Alliance and lovingly wrenches her
up into his arms and then on the bed--
Mika sits with his back against the headboard with Alliance
weeping, heavily in his arms.
SOUND FADES as alliance begins to wail.
Alliance curls up into Mika’s chest.
Mika says nothing, he just swaddles her in his arms
occasionally kissing the top of her head.
Slowly we ANGLE ON: A slightly different angle REVEALING
ALLIANCES WHEELCHAIR! In the spot where she was just sitting.

Alliance is smiling at Alliance.
We can now clearly see she is in a wheelchair. Rest
