2. PREVIOUS GENRE MOODBOARD
As preparation we set up a moodboard
containing screenshots from films which would
have the same target audience as ours. The films
in the mood board are :
Goodfellas
Pulp Fiction
The Godfather
Legend
These films would contain the same kind of
target audience as the one we presented in our
treatment.
We set the audience as primarily 16-60 males
and secondarily 20-40 females.
3. AUDIENCE MOODBOARD
This moodboard suggests that the audience would
find that expensive and good looking cars are
necessary to make their image more powerful. They
also find items which presents violence such as a
revolver and a knife which are used during the film as
cool items. They would spend some time at bars or
pubs drinking with their friends and talking about
these types of films. Films from this genre usually
have long scenes at bars or pubs. The target
audience would find that smoking was a cool thing in
the time space of the movie and in some cases might
smoke themselves. The briefcase`s purpose is to
symbolize large amounts of money which would be
given back a forth during the movie and happens in
the opening sequence. The audience has to want to
have the same extravagant lifestyle as the characters
in the movie. They would want to have their features,
their power, their riches and their charm directed at
women while the women viewer would want to go
out with them.
4. AUDIENCE MOODBOARD
The moodboard shows primarily British products and values. However this
movies also has international appeal, as Americans are big fans of Gangster
movies as most films which belong to this genre are American movies. Their
age demographic would be wider as older Americans grew up with films such
as the Godfather and would want to watch newer takes on the genre.
The British cop is in the mood board as a major feature of our movie is the
struggle against the police. The cigarettes are in the moodboard to show that
it is an international demographic the movie seeks. Smoking is universal and
even though it is bad for your health people still find it to be “cool”. The
weapon also presents international appeal for the same reasons as the
cigarettes. It also presents the theme of violence which is a big part of the
genre. The pub also feels British but it could be seen as a bar which would
present even bigger international appeal and the same aspect the cigarettes
have of being unhealthy but seen as cool, drinking also suffers from this
problem as do the characters in the film who practice these activities and
further on in the movie suffer from these practices. The audience would gather
their information from Newspapers/Internet. They would be middle class
members of society who back the ideals of capitalism and freedom.
5. VIOLENCE, COSTUMES AND
PROPS
The moodboard shows that during the film there will be
violence from the use of guns. This is apparent through the
opening sequence when the main character uses his weapon.
This would attract a certain type of audience. One that enjoys
ruthless violence. The demographic for this aspect of the film
is 16+ male audience and a lower amount of 18+ female
audience.
The props would attract male and female members who use
suits in their day to day. Also those who find that suits give
people power and enhance their self belief. As most characters
who don the suits in gangster movies find them to be a part of
their personality and a character of the film as well.
6. ROMANCE
An aspect of the film that the moodboard presents which the
previous audience profile does not is the romantic side of the
picture. As seen with the treatment for the film, the two main
characters are introduced to the same women at different times
and fall for her.
This would attract a whole other demographic which would mean
that 16-18 females would find an aspect of the film which they
would be able to connect with.
Legend is narrated by one of the main characters girlfriend and a
large part of the story is about her.
Goodfellas is in parts narrated by the main characters wife who is
part of the movie where a lot of the drama comes from.
The female character in our film is given a lot of screen time and
importance over the story which would attract a broader audience
for the movie.
7. BROTHERHOOD
The moodboard shows a variation of scenes where people are getting
together. In Goodfellas and The Godfather a big part of the film is
comradery between the main characters who would give their lives for
each other. In our film the main characters start off with a rocky
relationship but over the course of the film they learn that family is the
most important thing. This lesson is the main theme of films such as
Goodfellas and The Godfather and in some cases it results in the fall of
the main characters. In our film the result is the opposite as with learning
this lesson they are able to overcome the hardships of the film and take
over which is where the film ends. This would attract another
demographic, of those who go the cinema to be moved by a well told
story with complicated three dimensional characters with which you
connect and root for during the movie. There are also villains who stand
in the way of the two brothers, a problem they overcome together after
joining forces. In the beginning they have their own group of friends
who they hang-out with and trust. Nearing the end of the movie they
join forces.
