geological and hydrogeological karst
formation.
The Plitvice Lakes complex was named a
national park on April 8th 1949.

6. Large forest areas, extraordinary beautiful lakes and
waterfalls, the variety of animal and plant life,
mountain air, the contrasts of autumnal palette,
forest paths and wooden bridges, and numerous
other things make up an unforgetable place which
was among the first to be listed on the UNESCO’s
World Heritage list in 1979.

The park land is situated across the area of
two counties; 91% of it is in Lika-Senj County
and 9% lies in the area of Karlovac County.
