LEARNING RESOUCE CENTER
• A Learning Resource Centre is a facility
  within a school, staffed by a specialist,
  containing several information sources.
• Learning centers serve as a supplemental
  educational tool to complement the concepts
  kids learn in the classroom.
• It is also known as the Montessori method
TYPES
• Literacy and math learning centers appear
  most frequently in the classroom. Some
  teachers use the learning center concept for
  science and social students. At the preschool
  level, learning centers are sometimes more
  general in nature and include a mix of concepts
  such as literacy, art, building, math and
  science. Learning centers often include
  individual activities but sometimes incorporate
  small group learning.
PURPOSE
• Learning centers are needed whenever an
  educational need is not met in a community by
  other facilities (including schools). Thus, their
  purpose largely is to supplement existing
  institutions rather than to compete with them.
  Many learning centers are founded with the
  expressed purpose of fostering a sense of
  community in an area, especially in poor
  neighborhoods that have problems with crime and
  lack of income.
BENEFITS
• It makes the student more entertained and
  more attentive
• The students learn how to be more
  independent
USING THE CENTERS
DISADVANTAGES
• It cannot be applied to grades beyond
  elementary school.
• Criteria for evaluating a child's success in a
  learning center are not as well-defined as a
  homework assignment or a test.
• Learning centers often cost more.
