Dear Friends of the USA National Pavilion:

Now that Fall has arrived, we are seeing exciting progress for the USA National Pavilion. The frame of the
Pavilion is up and the physical structure is beginning to take shape. Even if you can't stop by the
construction site in Pudong, you can visit the Pavilion in another way by experiencing the USA National
Pavilion 2010 store, which is now online.

In addition, we continue to develop our Pavilion team. In September, we gained additional private sector
support, and added two new board members as well.

Thank you for your interest in this important project. With your support, we are ensuring that America will
have a spectacular presence at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo through which the American people and
our states, cities and businesses will showcase our values, culture and achievements to visitors from
around the world.

Construction of the USA National Pavilion Now Well Underway

Construction on the USA National Pavilion has made impressive progress through September.
It has been just under three months since the groundbreaking of the USA National Pavilion, and
construction progress has been remarkable. The frame of the Pavilion has risen from the construction site
and is now clearly visible to visitors.

U.S. Commissioner General Jose Villareal said the completed Pavilion will include environmental
features that will fit into the overall Shanghai Expo 2010 theme, "Better City, Better Life". Steering
Committee Chairman Frank Lavin said sponsorship has been critical to the Pavilion's progress, adding
that two-thirds of the necessary funds have been committed as of September.

The footprint of the Pavilion will cover 6,000 square meters. The USA National Pavilion will be prepared to
welcome 5-6 M visitors between May 1 and Oct. 31.

U.S. Commissioner General Jose Villarreal, Steering Committee Chairman Frank Lavin and
Ambassador Zhou Wenzhong Discuss Pavilion Progress at the Kissinger Institute

U.S. Commissioner General Jose Villareal (right) discusses the USA National Pavilion at the Kissinger
Institute on China and the United States. Steering Committee Chairman Frank Lavin (left) also participated
in the roundtable.

On Sept. 16, the Kissinger Institute on China and the United States hosted a discussion on the progress of
the USA National Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010. The Asia Society co-hosted the event at the
Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, DC.

Panelists included U.S. Commissioner General Jose Villareal, Chinese Ambassador to the United
States Zhou Wenzhong and Steering Committee Chairman Frank Lavin. Stapleton Roy, Director of
the Kissinger Institute, moderated the event, which was open to the public.

U.S. Commissioner General Jose Villareal said the 2010 World Expo would be much larger than any of its
predecessors, and that he knew very early that U.S. participation would be critical. He explained that he
first saw the Shanghai Expo 2010 site while visiting his daughter in China almost a year ago.

"I realized how significant this exposition would be, with 200 participants," said Villareal. "This will be one
of largest events in human history. It would be unthinkable for (the United States) not to be a part of this."
Steering Committee Chairman Frank Lavin agreed, as he praised Villareal's leadership while giving special
thanks to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. He said the progress in signing private sector
sponsors and construction has been remarkable since the Secretary of State threw her commitment
behind the Pavilion effort.

"Without Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, it would have been impossible for us to have come
this far," said Lavin.

Chinese Ambassador to the United States Zhou Wenzhong said he was grateful that the United States is
participating in the Shanghai World Expo 2010. He added that he looked forward to welcoming visitors
from throughout the world to Shanghai and seeing participants share examples of sustainable urban living.

The USA National Pavilion Store is Now Online

The USA Pavilion Committee announced the launch of its online store for clothing, accessories and gifts
bearing the USA Pavilion logo. Launched at http://usapavilion2010store.com, the store offers dozens of
items that can be shipped anyplace around the world.

"With the USA Pavilion store, people can show their support for the USA Pavilion by wearing a polo shirt or
a ball cap," said USA Pavilion Founder and President Nick Winslow. "And the money the USA Pavilion
receives from each sale goes entirely to support the Pavilion."

The USA National Pavilion is the official representative of the United States at the Shanghai World Expo
2010. It is managed by Shanghai Expo 2010, Inc., a non-profit tax-exempt entity responsible for carrying
out the fund-raising, design, construction, and operation of the USA National Pavilion project on behalf of
the government of the United States of America.

Pavilion and USC U.S.-China Institute Announce Student Ambassadors Internship Program

The USA National Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010 will present a dynamic emotional story that
radiates powerful core values shared by both the Chinese and American people -- sustainability, teamwork
and health. At the same time, the Pavilion story will present America as a place of opportunity where those
who work to change the world for the better will always thrive and prosper.
College undergraduate and graduate students have the opportunity to be a part of this unique experience
through the Student Ambassadors Internship Program, a partnership between the USA National Pavilion
and the University of Southern California's U.S.-China Institute. This program recruits and trains volunteer
students to serve as guides and national representatives for the United States at the Shanghai World Expo
2010.

The program provides students with: the opportunity to represent the United States to people from around
the world visiting the Expo; a unique educational experience as organizations and businesses showcase
research and technological innovations that have contributed to a "Better City, Better Life"; and, valuable
experience living and working in China in an international setting to prepare students for future involvement
on the global stage of international relations and business.

The internship program is unpaid. However, the USA National Pavilion will cover roundtrip airfare to
Shanghai and housing as well as provide a stipend to cover meals and local transportation to and from the
Expo site.

The Expo will run from May 1-Oct. 31, 2010. Students will serve as guides for a period of three months,
with an additional two weeks of training prior to starting the assignment. Students can apply for one or both
periods, but can only be selected for a single period. The periods are April 15-July 31 and July 16-Oct. 31.
Official Expo hours are 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Guides will be on a four days on/three days off schedule
that is subject to change.

Applicants are required to: be U.S. citizens or permanent residents; be current college undergraduate or
graduate students; be able to speak Chinese fluently; have a minimum 2.75 GPA; and, have experience in
public relations, well developed interpersonal skills, and a positive outlook on social and cultural diversity.

To apply, visit the "announcements" section at http://china.usc.edu, and click on the internship program
link to view program details and to complete the online application. Applications will not be considered
unless they include: a 500 or fewer word statement of purpose that describes why the applicant wants to
be an ambassador and why they are qualified to represent the United States in Shanghai; current resume,
transcripts, and two letters of recommendation -- to be uploaded and provided by the recommender -- that
will attest to the applicant's language ability as well as their appropriateness for the program.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 30, 2009. For more information, contact the USC U.S.-China Institute at:
