Aerodynamics
cars
By: Nur Syahirah Isa
Maziyatulkarimah Masrur
Objectives:
• Introduction of aerodynamic of car and the
principle related.
• How is the aerodynamic devices works?
• Is it the aerodynamic devices helps to
reduce the uses of fuel?

Aerodynamics is the study of moving air or
wind over a body in motion, & how that
airflow will affect the body's movement
through the flow.

car aerodynamics make the car more safer
and make it more fuel efficient.

Bernoulli’s principle

It stated that, as the speed of velocity
increases, its pressure decreases
What is the down force.
• The term down force the downward
pressure created by the aerodynamic
characteristics of a car that allows it to travel
faster through a corner by holding the car to the
track or road surface. However it also inverses
friction between the tires and the road surface,
thus decreasing maximum velocity.
• It’s a force which arises due to the airflow over
and below the car, which act vertically
downward on the car.
COEFFICIENT OF DRAG
• Ability to cut through the air
and the shape of the car
which ultimately affect the
overall top speed
• The lower the Cd level, the
lower the drag, more
aerodynamic efficiency of the
car design
Here are things that can be done to reduce
your vehicle's drag (air resistance)
1. Make the shape of the car so that air
flow together smoothly towards the
end of the car
2.Reduce the frontal area of the car by
minimizing the grill making sure that
windscreen is as flat as possible.
3.Cover the wheels.
Cars can generate lift if designed
poorly.
Roof ScoopsRoof Scoops
Creates a high pressure area that “pushes” down the car
Give stability to the car during driving on the high speed
FRONT AIR DAM
• Limits the Amount of Air Passing Underneath the Car
• Contributes to High Pressure In Front of the Car
• Causes Low Pressure Underneath the Car
10
UNDER TRAYS
• To minimize the wind resistance or drag
• To reduce the drag greatly by creating a smooth boxed in
under tray
• Helps to keep the fuel or gas bill down as well as provide a
better top speed
 The aerodynamic of cars was related to Bernoulli’s
principle.
 Overall the use of the aerodynamic devices greatly
increases the performance of a car. The trick is to be able
generate just the right amount of down force while
keeping drag to a minimum.
 By having the aerodynamic devices, cars can be more
spacious, fuel efficient and safer
CONCLUSION
Thank you
